Trump Has Talked About Buying Greenland for US

President Trump has pushed top aides to investigate whether the U.S. government can purchase the giant ice-smothered island of Greenland, two people with direct knowledge of the directive said.

That would be fun, but the budget would have Nunavut

Talk about an -- to Puerto Rico.

This is a good idea!

Buy Canada too!

The Alaska and Louisiana thingies didn't turn out so badly.

Who cares! Just move some bits in the Fed, and Greenland is ours!

Bet your Dijabouti that we'll need to Czech the price before making any commitments, but the idea itself is pretty Benin.

Chad, we could always try and take it by force as if we're some mafia Guinea s. I don't Haiti the concept of a 51st state

I thought this would be a fake Onion article, but Israel.

Greenland is definitely on my bucket list.

If you gotta ask, you can't afford it ! :)

If Trump thinks Denmark will sell Greenland he's got another thing coming.

They laugh at him behind his back.

#11 | Posted by AMERICANUNITY at 2019-08-16 01:22 AM

Hilarity aside, it would be a hell of a purchase from the point of strategic defense.

#12 | Posted by MUSTANG at 2019-08-16 06:40 AM

If Trump wasn't wrecking our alliances we would be able to use it for defense purposes for free.

#13 | Posted by jpw at 2019-08-16 07:49 AM

#13 We do.

#14 | Posted by MUSTANG at 2019-08-16 08:06 AM

Pretty much everyone thought Seward was a fool for buying Alaska. The vote in the House on the Louisiana Purchase passed by two.

The one piece of financial advice everyone's grandad offered: buy land.
Without knowing the price, I think it's a good idea.
In a couple of decades, maybe less, the glaciers will be gone. Once all that weight is removed it will rise up from the ocean like Scotland has over the last few millennia. Floridians will need some where to live and no other states are gonna take em.

#15 | Posted by BluSky at 2019-08-16 08:43 AM

#15 I have an old friend who preaches that "you can't get hurt with dirt". Land is almost always a good investment, as long as you're not buying below sea level.

#16 | Posted by MUSTANG at 2019-08-16 09:10 AM

#15 | Posted by BluSky

It isn't a bad thing to acquire more land, but the Danes must be laughing around water coolers all over Denmark today if not all over Europe, where Trump made himself a laughingstock some time ago.

Naw, Trump is just fooled by the name. He probably thinks "greenland" would be a nice place to build golf courses.

#19 | Posted by Twinpac at 2019-08-16 11:09 AM

Denmark should agree-- come up with a $$$ figure with the promise that Trump and Pence will both resign in order to complete the sale.

I'm sure, as true Americans, Trump and Pence want to do what is best for our country, Long-term.

#20 | Posted by pumpkinhead at 2019-08-16 11:15 AM

I'm on board if Trump agrees to admit Greenland as a blue state with two Senators. Maybe even chop it into two blue states.

#21 | Posted by JOE at 2019-08-16 11:18 AM

If I were Denmark, I would split Greenland into four pieces and then sell a quarter each to the US, Russia, China and Saudi Arabia.

Then sit back, count the dough, and watch the fun...

#22 | Posted by pumpkinhead at 2019-08-16 11:19 AM

Does Trump know that Greenland has universal healthcare and one of the largest public sectors (as a % of GDP) in the world?

#23 | Posted by JOE at 2019-08-16 11:36 AM

You can tell Trumpers don't even know WTF to say about this; they haven't been told how to spin this as genius by Tucker Carlson yet.

#24 | Posted by JOE at 2019-08-16 11:38 AM

--Does Trump know that Greenland has universal healthcare and one of the largest public sectors (as a % of GDP) in the world?

Does Angry Violent Joe know that Greenland has a population about the size of a small American town?

#25 | Posted by nullifidian at 2019-08-16 11:41 AM

When you research how much doomsday material is being stored in Greenland territory, this purchase makes absolute sense.

"--Does Trump know that Greenland has universal healthcare and one of the largest public sectors (as a % of GDP) in the world?"

Exactly why he's buying it. We can buy one country at a time and fix these stupid Liberal mistakes to make the world a better place.

I doubt Orange Adolf's check would clear.

Does Senile Racist -------------- know that plenty of places larger than Greenland successfully implement their model of society?

"Does Senile Racist -------------- know that plenty of places larger than Greenland successfully implement their model of society?

#28 | POSTED BY JOE"

Every place is larger than Greenland. Its population is 55,000. It is impossible for a country of 325,000.000 to emulate a country of 55,000.

You people who keep saying, "Well, if country x can do it, then the US can do it" need to get a clue. Seriously.

On a side note, the definition of a racist as "someone who beats a liberal in an argument" is proven true once again by Joe who gratuitiously calls Nullifidian a racist.

#29 | Posted by goatman at 2019-08-16 12:12 PM

And would the residents of Greenland, the vast majority of whom are Danish citizens, would they automatically become American citizens? And if not, would the next child born in Greenland be an American citizen?

Denmark Offers to Buy U.S.A.

A key provision of the purchase offer, the spokesperson said, would be the relocation of Donald Trump to another country 'to be determined,' with Russia and North Korea cited as possible destinations. #GreenlandPurchase https://t.co/xEgl6CAQyp

Trump wants to corner the market on ice.

He doesn't care if the Earth is warming. It'll be better for business!

How about we trade Puerto Rico for Greenland?

#36 | Posted by MartinBK at 2019-08-16 04:21 PM

Buying Greenland might be a good idea but Trump isn't the guy to do it.

#37 | Posted by Tor at 2019-08-16 04:27 PM

Greenland would be a great place as a port of entry for all asylum seekers and citizen wannabees.

Ship all of them there when they enter for processing.

So when you quoted my post and replied with "you people who say....." you didn't claim i said anything? Interesting. Is English your first languge?

Pretty much we already have all the benefits for our strategic defense without owning it. Denmark is an ally.

#40 | Posted by danni at 2019-08-17 09:04 AM

#34 What is Denmark offering for the USA? Better to be owned by the Danish than Russian Oligarchs.

Well lets not forget we also have Antarctica... our section already belongs to us... so let's make it our 51st state...

Of course we would have to kick out all the now illegal space aliens and close down all those WW2 Nazi bases and of course take over Atlantis and tax all the Atlantians out of their homes.

Still, it has ALL the ice and fresh water you could possibly want.

We could do all that TODAY...

We already have a nice well armed Military force already stationed there... who is gonna stop us???

Actually... let's make it our 52nd state....

I am for making Area 51 our 51st state. That way, we could legally kick out all the space aliens from that part of OUR planet.

They tend to cause way to much trouble...

#42 | Posted by Pegasus at 2019-08-17 02:57 PM

way to much trouble = way too much trouble...

"Everybody is missing the most important aspect of annexing Greenland: we'll get 5 more armies per turn for having all of North America, and be able to consolidate our defense to 1 territory to fend off the European hordes massing in Iceland."

Greenland for the red-flagged. Is that what it'll take for the third world to stop invading Hyphenated-European lands?
