Trump says framework of Iran deal 'largely negotiated'

U.S. President Donald Trump wrote on Saturday that a memorandum of understanding on a peace deal with Iran is "largely negotiated," as both countries and mediators in Pakistan reported progress. Trump posted on social media that the emerging agreement would reopen the Strait of Hormuz, the vital shipping passage whose closure upended global energy markets after the conflict started in February when the U.S. and Israel launched strikes on Iran.

... Trump did not say what else would be included in an agreement. "Final aspects and details of the Deal are currently being discussed, and will be announced shortly," Trump said.

Iran's Fars news agency reported early on Sunday that the agreement would allow Iran to manage the Strait of Hormuz. It said Trump's assertion that an agreement was nearly final was "inconsistent with reality."

... reopen the Strait of Hormuz ...

So ... go back to the way the Strait had been before Pres Trump's unprovoked war with Iran?

Iran, Oman discuss Strait of Hormuz toll system: Report

... Iran and Oman have discussed setting up a toll system to charge vessels transiting through the Strait of Hormuz, despite President Trump's condemnation of charging fees to pass through the waterway.

@#3

So, Pres Trump's unprovoked war with Iran may result in the charging of tolls for passage through the Strait of Hormuz?

I'd like to be a fly on the wall of the negotiations taking place...

may result in the charging of tolls for passage through the Strait of Hormuz

Not a big obstacle. Lewzer told Panama to stop charging fees to transit the canal, and that was that.

@#5

Yeah, but ...

Pres Trump has also said that the US controls the Strait of Homuz.

www.cnbc.com

... Trump said his administration had "total control" of the waterway. ...

If that is the case, the why has shipping through the Strait been all but stopped of late?

Is Pres Trump lying? Again?

Maritime insurance underwriters.

@#7

Yeah, I understand that aspect. The insurers are currently concerned (understatement) about the risk of ships traversing the Strait.

But if, as Pres Trump states, the US is in full control of the Strait, why would the insurance companies have such an issue?

Could [gasp] Pres Trump be lying [again]?
