Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Tuesday, July 16, 2019

If the past week has taught Republicans anything, it's that history will not recall fondly those who wait until their time in government has expired (like Ryan) to warn the world of the president's inadequacies. Many will remain silent because they view his custody of the party as fleeting and unsustainable, believing that his eventual exit from office will allow them rehabilitate the Republican brand. And yet, that silence is what solidifies Trump's chokehold on the American right -- a lesson Ryan had to learn the hard way.

That sounds like a non-sequitur to me.

If they think he custody of the party is fleeting, then they should not sit idly by as Pres Trump degrades the Republican Party.

The problem is that they appear to be cowards because of their fear of acting.

Who is going to want a Republican Party full of cowards?

Cowards see nothing wrong with cowards.

Rather than do the right thing and rally Republicans around the idea of decency, Ryan stayed silent.

He did the easy thing, for him. Now the country suffers.

Clean bedpans for a decade or so to make amends, Mr. Ryan. Otherwise have the decency to just go away.

Any Republican that comes out against Trump even now, is committing career suicide. And I'm not just talking about a political career. Even if Ryan had already decided he wanted out, he still had to preserve his ability to support his family after he left office. Now that he's sure he's going to be able to pay his bills he has a little more latitude to speak freely.
