The House voted Thursday to raise the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2025, delivering a long-sought victory to liberals and putting the Democratic Party's official imprimatur on the so-called Fight for $15, which many Democratic presidential candidates have embraced.

Too bad that opposing Democrats is more important to republicans than doing what is right.

#1 If it doesn't benefit the 1%, it isn't "right" to the GOP.

It will go to Mitch ----------- graveyard of 100+ democratic house passed bills to die while he goes on tv and says the democratic house is doing nothing.

In a meeting this week my boss commented about the Fed's rate cut expected this month, echoing worries about a lack of inflation in the US economy. My reply: "You want inflation? That's easy! Raise the minimum wage. Doing so generates both greater consumer demand and price inflation at the retail level, to counter-act some portion of that increase in workers' wages."

You can thank me later. You're welcome...

Yes it will but then Democrats can start telling voters who is preventing them from having higher wages.

Your boss doesn't understand what is really going on. There was no reason to lower rates except to keep his job. Trump has been calling the Fed incompetent for not doing what he wants, he wants the economy growing through the election and doesn't care what the consequences are after. With rising debt like we now have it is ridiculous to be lowering interest rates. This will just create another stock market bubble.

We don't need this in California.

joke. the average hourly rate in the US is now at $26.43.

hardly anyone pays minimum wage, not even McDonalds. this is just a contract with the Unions to drive their wages up............BUT the Dems want open borders and for every illegal that comes across and goes to work under the radar undermines and erodes every Union Contract in America. don't understand why any Union member would vote democrat

It's a HUUUUUUUGE problem that this statement has been made by the masses during every Presidency since I've been alive and yet neither side owns up to it when it is their party that is the target.

"this is just a contract with the Unions to drive their wages up"

Well, let's not forget this is a way to increase revenue as well. The more people make, the more they pay in taxes. While I'm not for the idea of raising it to $15, I can appreciate there are positives and negatives.

IMO, because they know the senate won't pass it.....it's a nod to unions to pretend they give a ----.

passing legislation in the house they know will fail in the senate is a common tactic to show good faith and to demonize the other party.

Its just how it goes....

"#NOTClosedBorders?"

You can shut down the borders but low wage workers won't see higher wages because of it but you'll see higher prices for food.

"passing legislation in the house they know will fail in the senate is a common tactic to show good faith and to demonize the other party."

As they should be demonized.

Ok, let's apply this to global warming legislation. It won't past the Senate, but the Democrats can start telling voters who doesn't want to save the planet. Or free college tuition. Or MFA. Student loan forgiveness. etc.

Danni:

I think my boss knows the score, but is like most--seeing a tool to counter-act economic slowing applied for political purposes, and thinking that because the Fed is doing it, it must be OK. The macro signs are not uniform, so lowering rates will not help much--it will only create more noise. At this point any reduction has been priced into the market.

One of the few benefits of a continuation of the present minimum wage is that undocumented workers will continue to come to the US to work low-wage jobs. they will live in squalor (or their cars), work like dogs (and in which they deserve some honor and respect), send their earnings back home to support their families (remember when GOPers were the party of family values?) and go back home at the end of their work season, to return the following year...

You're living in the past. That's the way it used to be, when young healthy men illegally immigrated, but now it's entire families, who intend to stay.
