The Justice Department inspector general's office referred former FBI Director James Comey for potential prosecution over his handling of memos that the FBI later determined contained classified information, a person familiar with the matter confirmed Thursday. Justice Department prosecutors declined to prosecute Comey, in part because they didn't believe there was evidence to show Comey knew and intended to violate laws on handling classified information.

Hahahahaha.

Of course the head of the FBI didn't know the law about sharing classified information.

This is so coming down. Putin told me that RussiaGate was real.

What would they prosecute him for?

Man was put in a bad spot by the Russians and did what he hoped was the right thing.

Where's Rube? He practically guaranteed Comey would be prosecuted. Clapper, too.

Maybe it's because the DOJ didn't want to open a can of worms about the way the GOP coerced Comey into releasing the information about the FBI re-opening the "missing" e-mail (that weren't missing at all) investigation of Hillary Clinton a couple weeks before the election.

Comey did more to hurt Hillary than all the Russian hackers. What a freakin' idiot, but tame compared to the most notorious bureaucrat in the history of Washington DC, J Edgar Hoover. He used his agents not just to solve crimes but to promote himself and his political agenda. He did that by harrassing civil rights activists 24/7. He maintained personal files on every DC politicians and possibly others. Extortion was his game.

They probably gave Comey the benefit of the doubt because those were HIS memos, which he had written for his own personal 'Pearl Harbor file'. Besides, at the time that he shared them with people outside of the FBI, they had yet to be officially classified as anything other than having come from the desk of the FBI Director.

The contemporaneous notes were his insurance policy. Comey knew better than anybody . . . and long before any of us had it figured out . . . just how treacherous Trump could be.

The cracks in Trump's veneer weren't as obvious then as they are now. Since then, Trump has given up all pretense of using the presidency for anything other than an opportunity-of-a lifetime to enrich himself and his family.

I think we can all expect to see even more desperate measures for desperate situations as the threat to Trump's self-enrichment start to falter on the alter of public opinion in the upcoming year before the election.

We can feel the daily tempo starting to rise.

We might even see the GOP controlled Senate start looking for ways to save themselves from annihilation.

Maybe but maybe not. I think a lot has to do with what might happen with a changing of the guard once Trump (or any president) is out of office. A new administration could seek to prosecute those from previous administrations, then when the new admin is out, the next admin could seek to prosecute its previous admin and so on and so on.... Eventually it would lead to each president granting a pardon to everyone that worked in his administration for any and all federal crimes that they may have committed as one of their last official acts. That when the US government would truly turn into a criminal organization because admin officials could act with impunity as long as the HOR lets them get away with it.

Comey stole government documents and then lied about it - that is established fact now. Anyone else and they would already be charged. But, this is just the IG report - the Barr investigation is the one that matters and that is the one that get the whole cabal tossed in jail. FISA abuse is being investigated now with actual subpoena power - the IG lacks that power for former employees.

You mean the Barr fact finding mission to find distorted information to prop up already made conclusions is well under way.

Right?

Wait wait wait, the DOJ, run by Trump Appointee Barr, decides not to charge Comey after the IG referred the matter to them for prosecution... and you blame the IG, say the Barr DOJ is protecting Comey, and say Barr will get him later...?

This level of nonsense is pretty amazing.
