Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Sunday, August 04, 2019

Fredrick Brennan was getting ready for church at his home in the Philippines when the news of a mass shooting in El Paso arrived. His response was immediate and instinctive. "Whenever I hear about a mass shooting, I say, ‘All right, we have to research if there's an 8chan connection,'" he said about the online message board he started in 2013. It didn't take him long to find one.

In recent months, 8chan has become a go-to resource for violent extremists. At least three mass shootings this year -- including the mosque killings in Christchurch, New Zealand, and the synagogue shooting in Poway, Calif. -- have been announced in advance on the site, often accompanied by racist writings that seem engineered to go viral on the internet.

Do you believe that shutting the site down also shuts down violent extremist ideology?

Do you not believe that these violent extremists will simply find another cyber home to vent their extremism?

Is it better to have them contained out in the open where they can monitored, infiltrated, and maybe intervention by LEO?

#3 Great idea, but maybe we shouldn't shutdown domestic terrorism monitoring that could monitor posters.

Simply start treating them as African Americans.

Shoot first ask questions later.

You simply haven't the political will.

#9, you sound a lot like a Dalek today.

Where does it end? Lots of people use sites like that who have no intention of committing crimes.

"Where does it end?"

Who says it ends?

Security is a process, not an endpoint.

Stop making fatuous arguments.

Or stick to something you're good at, like rehabilitating Swastikas

Same as everything else that kills us. It ends with a bigger sledgehammer every day that it gets worse. So stop it now if you want to protect your Nazi pals.

A bigger sledgehammer will eventually hit people like you and me, not just "your Nazi pals". Did you support the Patriot Acts?

It doesn't matter whether it's initiated by the government or the private sector. Once it becomes overreaching, it's eventually done in tandem when it comes to things like censorship and blacklisting, especially when people are acting out of fear. And then once that's in place, the people who want to abuse it step in.

We can stop psychotic insanity by shutting down a web-site? That's never happened before in history.

He didn't go insane because of a website. It was an outlet. He wasn't warning us, it was what he got off to. Just to see our reaction.

Dammit broke my wrench. Well, that's why Craftsmen tools have a lifetime warranty, replacement free. The eyes glow when I power her up now, though. Giant Death-Bot coming on schedule.
