US immigration officials have said they have released some 300 people who were arrested in a massive raid in Mississippi on Wednesday. Nearly 700 workers from seven agricultural processing plants were arrested for allegedly not having proper documentation to be in the US.

Has anyone heard if the employers that hired the illegal immigrants were out on bail yet?

Oh yeah, no because none of them were charged a crime.

ICE isn't concerned about stopping illegal immigration, just make it look like they are doing something to keep their funding. If a handful of employers were actually locked up for breaking the law then they would stop hiring illegals and ICE would be out of a job.

Meat packing used to be a union job until Reagan purposely allowed millions of Mexicans to replace those union meat cutters at far lower wages which was his intention, it was a union busting technique and it did exactly what he intended for it to do. I suspect these raids were coordinated with the management of those companies to make their workers understand what can happen to them if they step one foot out of line.

Wow, so now this is Reagan's fault...

Got it.

Yep, when is ICE going to arrest the folks that hire illegals?
You want to end the hiring of illegals it's a simple solution.

Give all employers 1 month to get rid of all illegals.

Start raiding companies. For every illegal found working for said company the person that runs said company (see the CEO or COO) gets fined 1 million dollars per illegal and 1 year in prison per illegal, no loopholes out of penalties. Once this happens a few times companies will start policing themselves. The million dollars per infraction will fund the program.

- Give all employers 1 month to get rid of all illegals.

House Democrats should name their bill that.

"Madame Speaker, I would like to introduce The Give all employers 1 month to get rid of all illegals bill to the floor."

I'm still wondering why the plant owners were not arrested...

Documents: Plant Owners 'Willfully' Used Ineligible Workers

...Six of seven Mississippi chicken processing plants raided Wednesday were "willfully and unlawfully" employing people who lacked authorization to work in the United States, including workers wearing electronic monitoring bracelets at work for previous immigration violations, according to unsealed court documents....

If the plant management also broke the law by "willfully and unlawfully" employing people who lacked authorization to work in the United States, why weren't they also arrested?

@#6 ... House Democrats should name their bill that. ...

You seem to be fixated upon Democrats when the head of the Executive Branch and ICE is a Republican. Why?

Maybe you should be asking why ICE is not arresting plant owners who are, according to court documents, "willfully and unlawfully" employing people who lacked authorization to work in the United States.

How many employers were taken in this raid?

About time.

The employers hide behind everify, which enables them to hire people with stolen or faked documents. No biometrics are involved, so there is no real way to know that the person is actually who his/her documents say they are. The reason given for not including biometrics is cost but the savings in labor that employers gain far outweighs the cost of including methods to actually verify the identity of the people they hire.
Remember, these were all union jobs before Reagan, the employers have enjoyed increased profits for 40 years because of his destroying the unions with the influx of illegal immigrant labor. Today, morons blame the illegal immigrants instead of the employers who advertise employment in their factories in Mexico City. It is a class war and illegal immigration is just one aspect of the rich destroying the middle class by destroying unions. It isn't just the meat packing industry, it's all the trades. Real immigration reform would go a long way to solving this problem by making illegal immigrant workers become legal workers who could demand higher wages without fear of deportation at the whim of their employer.

I thought I should add, Ronald Reagan did more damage to our middle class than any previous president. His "Trickle Down Economics" has created huge debt which we didn't have before his Presidency. Income inequality has grown to ridiculous proportions because of his economic policies which were just reinforced by the Republicans with their tax cuts for the 1%. Some of us realized the scam he was playing on America while he was still doing it, many others, sadly, were fooled by his pretense of being a good man. He was a stooge of the rich doing exactly what they told him to do and this country is far the worse for his Presidency.

Because they all contribute to the Republican Party. I've actually witnessed it. A representative from the party comes to the office of a company, probably with an appointment, they meet for an hour or so and then he leaves with a big fat check in his hand, he leaves behind a framed picture of the President and probably some other goodies so that the owners can prove their allegiance to their peers. And ROC and others can say that isn't how it works but they are full of crap. In today's business world you are either part of the party or you are ignored by most people who are part of the party. And, to be part of the party is to contribute money to the party.

The plant had been working double shifts and handing out overtime for two weeks. Lucky timing to get raided before payday.

The meat packing industry as a whole must use cheap immigrants. Horrid conditions. The people working on the kill floor need to be cycled out after six months as the odds of a mental breakdown rise exponentially.
Tyson had a good week. The market doesn't seem too worried.

Refugees as well are a huge part of the employment base of meat packing plants.

Lots of illegal Americans doing lots of illegal things.

So let's deport some poor Mexicans!

That will teach them illegal Americans a lesson they will never forget.

Punish the victims.
