Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Sarah Silverman has said she was recently fired from a film after producers unearthed a still of her in 2007 wearing blackface for a comedy sketch. "I didn't fight it. They hired someone else who is wonderful but who has never stuck their neck out. It was so disheartening. It just made me real, real sad, because I really kind of devoted my life to making it right."

Silverman did not name the film but discussed "cancel culture" with [Bill] Simmons, saying that the current climate had left her feeling fearful. "I think it's really scary and it's a very odd thing that it's invaded the left primarily and the right will mimic it," adding that she dubs it "righteousness porn".

We also need to track down every person who's ever put on a poncho and sombrero for a Mexican restaurant birthday party photo.

This is what happens when someone goes full blackface.

Anybody old enough to hear of Al Jolson.
He made a living doing black face.

My. My. How the times have changed.

At some point this is just a selective lynch mob to justify selecting an unqualified actor/comedian over someone with more experience.

Megyn Kelly just used the term Blackface as a long ago Halloween costume and she got fired

Suddenly the "right" is siding with Sarah Silverman because they found out she did blackface once.

The article doesn't appear to have an image of the alleged blackface.

"Megyn Kelly just used the term Blackface as a long ago Halloween costume and she got fired"

The example she was talking about wasn't even "Blackface".

I have personally done things which were politically incorrect, I do not think anyone's career should be derailed because of it and that includes the former Gov. of Virginia. I am sort of sick of this whole thing. Young people do stupid things, it's part of life, doesn't mean they are bad people.

The fake outrage over past "offenses" was intended to damage Republicans, non-Marxists and other deplorables. Sow the wind, reap the whorl-wind.

Once you go blackface you never go back.

If anyone hasn't watched it, watch the last season of Orange is the New Black. They address this stuff in such a positive and logical way. The 21st century definition of racism has already become dated and irrelevant...it's just a shame it took so long for snowflakes to get over it.

Yup. This is the worst thing about the left.

The worst thing about the right is:

stealing from the poor and sick to give more to the rich
Destroying the climate
Making sure lunatics can get lethal firepower
Supporting the klan and nazis
Intentionally making it harder for people to vote
Putting corporations in charge of the government
blowing up the budget to increase military spending
and supporting trump - a fascist idiotic con man.

Gosh it's so tough to pick which side to support...

Didn't Sarah Silverman go after a comedian for telling a joke about gay men only to have another comedian find example of jokes she's told about gay people?

It's interesting that she got fired yet Northam is still employed. With the left the outrage is always selective.

Are you saying there was no outrage over Northam? Were you living under a rock?

He decided not to resign. Are you saying he should have been impeached? Is there another method of removing him from office that I do not know about?

And no, he shouldn't be impeached.

It's one thing to wear black face and another to tell rape jokes, but doing both at the same time is a bit too much.

#24 | POSTED BY JEFFJ

As will be the outrage over Silverman. She just happened to be a position where her employer is in a position to terminate her and is not willing to weather the outrage, however fleeting.

If Northam's employer (the voters) had been in a position to terminate him when the blackface stuff came out, then he probably would not now be in office.

I think you are confusing "selective" outrage at different people with different people having different circumstances.

#26 | Posted by gtbritishskull at 2019-08-14 02:02 PM | Reply

#26 I think all of this outrage is stupid.

People are getting all psyched up over a college photo?

I did stupid ---- when I was in college and attitudes toward a lot of things were different back then.

Applying today's standards to things that happened decades ago is just plain stupid IMO.
