Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Former Acting ICE Director Tom Homan accused Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., of playing politics with the DHS immigration raids in Mississippi, and said it was irresponsible to compare law enforcement to terrorists. President Trump authorized a raid on a food processing plant last week, which ended in the apprehension of 680 illegal immigrants, drawing backlash from Harris. After the government let nearly half of the detainees go on humanitarian grounds, the 2020 presidential hopeful appeared on "Meet The Press" Sunday and called the raids a "campaign of terror."

"Bottom line, Kamala Harris is wrong," Homan said Monday on "America's Newsroom."

"This is politics at its worst... ICE is enforcing the laws that Congress enacted... and Kamala Harris as a senator in the U.S. Congress -- she needs to read the law before she starts vilifying the men and women who are merely doing their job, enforcing laws that they enacted."

He added, "If she doesn't like it, change the law. But I'm sick and tired of how they turn this whole world upside-down where those who knowingly violate the law are the victims, and those who enforce the law, all of the sudden, are the bad guys."

... it was irresponsible to compare law enforcement to terrorists. ...

One could also say it is irresponsible for fmr Dir Homan to mischaracterize what a Senator has said.

Sen Harris called the raids a "campaign of terror." That is different than saying calling the law enforcers "terrorists."

Given that the Trump administration has said such raids were used to frighten and deter more immigrants from entering the Country, Sen Harris may not be far off base.

Having said that, I'd say she needs to lower the intensity of her rhetoric. While she may be getting the publicity she wants, her intense rhetoric is becoming part of the problem, not part of the solution.

"Given that the Trump administration has said such raids were used to frighten and deter..."

"frighten"

Are those the words used by Trump? Do you have a link to that?

Has anyone said their intention is to "frighten" people? I have not heard or read that.

"and said it was irresponsible to compare law enforcement to terrorists"

remember the Bundy's

you all were right here busily defending a man who was breaking the law. Standing against law enforcement, armed, and willing to defend/engage law enforcement with deadly force.

The Bundys had said they would put women up as human shields and have threatened law enforcement officers' countless times

@#3 ... Are those the words used by Trump? ...

No. I didn't say Trump used them.

The words "frighten and deter" in the comment was my characterization of what the Trump administration said, not a direct quote. If it were a direct quote it would have been in quotation marks.

Link to Trumps words, or those of his admin, that you're 'characterizing' as meant to "frighten" immigrants.

This is part of the problem from MSM and Kamala Harris in exaggerating words and blowing them out of proportion; and you're parroting it.

Why do you think I saw them on the web?

I garner information from cable networks, in addition to the web. Not all the words uttered on cable interviews make it to the web.

Indeed, the Fox News shows (among others) I watch do not put transcripts on the web.

Sorry to disappoint you.

All laws are designed to deter more law-breaking. Writing traffic tickets isn't a campaign of terror on drivers. Arresting domestic abusers isn't a campaign of terror on wife-beaters. To call them 'campaigns of terror' is in itself an act of stochiastic terrorism. When you tell people enough times that ICE are nazias, running concentration camps, engaged in a campaign of terror....eventually someone, somewhere is going to act on that rhetoric.

Stochiastic terrorism the public demonization of a person or group resulting in the incitement of a violent act, which is statistically probable but whose specifics cannot be predicted

So you don't think it's an act of terror for a politician to terrorize old people or cripples by telling them that if they don't vote for him, they will suffer?

Let me guess: You must be a Democrat who hs been brainwashed to believe that your party is not guilty of the talking points they ask you to puke out, and you oblingly do.
