A Tyson beef packing plant in Holcomb Kansas just burnt to the ground. Great timing.

Profound. For you, anyway.

Someone said earlier that all you do is drive by attacks -- never anything substantial. I looked at your viewing history and that person was right.

Keep up the good work, deep thinker!

just get the beef from china - boom! problem solved. It works for seafood so it should be swell for beefcowburgers

Vegetarians should push for zero inspectors.

Send more inspectors and have them accompanied by ICE. It will make the actions last week look like small potatoes. If they detained all undocumented (illegal by government definition) workers in these plants just in Kansas, we are probably talking well in excess of 100,000. Remove them, remove their families as well. Kansas' children are being cheated out of education spending by having the money spent on programs to teach the children of people that are breaking the law by being in the country. Yes, beef prices will increase (making AOC smile as you then won't eat a hamburger for breakfast and lunch), US citizens will fill the void at higher wages, and Kansas will no longer have a permanent underclass.

Why would any Democrat be against that? The get higher wages, decreased poverty levels, less meat consumption (GND), and higher education spending/child....all dreams come true

It is illegal to hire undocumented immigrants. The plants should be confiscated and sold. Businesses would not hire undocumented workers if it meant confiscation, then there would not be any demand for undocumented workers. They would go home themselves.

#8 | Posted by bored at 2019-08-15 12:10 AM | Reply

ICE would pay for itself and get rid of undocumented workers faster than ICE can now.

Why dont Republicans support this?

Your problem comes when the 'undocumented' had documents - they were just stolen US identities. Now, I have no doubt the company turns a blind eye to all this. When your workers are in their 40's and can't speak English, chance were that they were not born here.

So, first step would be making a true secure ID - we could use this for voting as well. Have the government pay for each citizen to get one. No employment without the secure ID with jail/confiscation if caught. I am for ALL OF THE ABOVE when it comes to illegal workers and those that employ them.

Why wouldn't the first step to force the companies to stop turning a blind eye? Especially when six of the seven were participating in the ruse.

"I am for ALL OF THE ABOVE when it comes to illegal workers and those that employ them."

Then why aren't you slamming the Republican administration for arresting 680 workers and ZERO hirers?

- It is illegal to hire undocumented immigrants.

They used stolen identities. DoJ is investigating.

My guess is that the companies were following the letter of the law - just not the spirit. We will see, but I would guess that all of the employees gave the required documents - they were just fake or stolen. Employers are handcuffed on this. The government no longer tells them when the find stolen SS numbers for their employees.

Six of the seven were participating in the ruse. I know you know what that means.

"Employers are handcuffed on this"

When and where? From all the reports I've seen, the arrest tally was 680 workers, 0 hirers.

Do you arrest the employer if the employee gives them fake or stolen documents?

#15 | Posted by iragoldberg at 2019-08-15 02:05 AM | Reply

It really isn't all that hard to determine that the documents produced are fake. Company I work for does a background check on every hire, we don't have any undocumented workers but then our company isn't run by a greedy corporation who just doesn't give a crap. They just want cheap labor. Realize too, before Reagan, these were all union jobs paying good wages and offering good benefits.
Undocumented workers are really just union busters which is why Reagan quit enforcing the law against the employers.
Want to fix America, repeal Taft-Hartley, overturn corporate personhood with a Constitutional amendment, the people wearing MAGA hats want our country to be great again but don't want to do what it takes to make it that way again because they are addicted to right wing radio and TV.

I think our government is vastly over-bloated. However, when it comes to food safety, I'll accept some bloat.

Don't mess around with this...

Is a lack of awareness a requirement to be a member of the right these days?

Or is it just a coincidence that being a staunch righty leaves one unaware?

How difficult is it to verify that the 42 year old Hispanic man in front of you isn't 16-year old Susie Smith born in Gary, Indiana? In all seriousness, employers are not fooled by stolen or fake documentation, they're complicit.

And I wouldn't jail them, I'd fine them. Say, 50,000 per offense. That 680 person roundup last week would have netted $34M and deterred employers from being complicit in committing a crime.

Definitely agree. Some bloat is OK. However, I think it's safer to have the company hire the individuals. Who do you think is more likely to care about the quality of the meat...a company owned by rich people who want to get richer or some audit guy who works for the government and doesn't give two cents about the company's financial status?

All of the BS that Libs are forcing on America today makes EVERYONE suffer from lack of awareness. All of the BS that Cons are forcing on American today makes EVERYONE stop caring. So, there you go...those who are OK with Lib opinions are suffering from their own fantasy world and those who agree with Cons have a lack of empathy. Maybe this lets you have a revelation today to understand the true problem...instead of being so unaware as you prove by your comment.

Hey, ........ Tyson just wants a return on their investment....all the $$$$$ they give to politicians, they got them in their back pockets.
Look at all the money they will save when they fire their meat inspectors.....

Look ant Monsanto with their herbicide "Round UP" has already contaminated our food chain....what else is next???

that is what Romney was referring to when he said....that "corporations are people too...."

Basically, they want to be able to trim the tumor from around your steak before the inspector sees it and deems it inedible.
