"We request the stretch of Fifth Avenue between 56th and 57th Streets be renamed President Barack H. Obama Avenue," reads the request, addressed to New York Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) and the City Council. "Any addresses on that stretch of Fifth Avenue should be changed accordingly." That stretch includes Trump Tower, which would make President Trump's address there 725 President Barack H. Obama Ave.

(The) justification for echoing the move in New York was to honor Obama's "many accomplishments." According to the petition, they include "saving our nation from the Great Recession; serving two completely scandal-free terms in office; and taking out Osama bin Laden, the mastermind behind September 11th, which killed over 3,000 New Yorkers."

There is one challenge: In New York City, the guidelines for renaming a street in Manhattan require the honoree be dead for at least two years, and the former president is very much alive. But the rules allow exceptions and give the community board in Manhattan the discretion to disregard those guidelines in exceptional circumstances.

I would say that this is an "exceptional circumstance". For the rest of time Trump's signature trophy would be located on a street named for his largest foil and the person he maligned with a senseless smear. I'd call it kismet.

Great idea! I would have loved to have signed that petition.

This is how small and petty democrats have become.

Every day is a new reason not to support these childish hissy fits.

I wish they would do it so that we can all say that Trump 'Towers' over obama. Guess they have not considered that ; )

For that reason alone, I would sign the petition if I lived there.

That number would be marginally impressive if it was only New Yorkers signing it. I just signed it. BFD.

Remember when the same children voted to name a sewage treatment plant after Bush?

Petty little stunt. It's to be expected from NY. Like the song says, it's "the city that never thinks."

So are the democrats going to pay the businesses who have to legally change their addresses, get new letterheads, street signs, web page updates, etc.? Probabliy not. What do they care the cost as long as their little temper tantrum can procede.

Not interested in putting my name and email on another list. Also, not surprised at how many people are so easily distracted.

Speaking of hissy fits, can anyone tell me what Trump's latest tweet was?

I sincerely doubt the actual street name is "Trump Tower Street." It's usually an honorary sort of thing. Chicago has brown street signs with honorary names nect to the green signs with the actual name.

I feel sorry for those good people named Trump who will now have things named after them renamed.

No one deserves the Gay Hitler treatment.

I read somewhere today that New York has a law that we n order to name something after a person said person must be deceased for at least two years.

Prodound. For uou, anyway.

Seriously, though -- do you think you'll ever outgrow the jungle-gym taunts and post something with substance? All I ever see of you is pathetic juvenile name calling. And oddly, you even seem proud of it.

Street Sign Diplomacy: How Countries Use Street Signs To Troll Rivals
www.newsy.com

...Turns out renaming street signs is a pretty easy, and common, way to score political points against international rivals.

Driving through D.C., you'll notice that there are these little bonus signs in front of Russian Embassy buildings...

Turns out, these are part of a larger game of "street sign diplomacy" between the U.S. and Russia, as well as a host of other countries around the world.

In 2018, the part of Wisconsin Avenue that the Russian Embassy sits on was renamed "Boris Nemtsov Plaza."

Nemtsov was an opposition politician in Russia and a longtime critic of President Vladimir Putin. He was assassinated in Moscow in 2015.

In response, Russian politicians moved to rename a street of their own. Moscow is currently considering whether it'll rename the U.S. Embassy's street "North American Dead End."...

Maybe petty, but this is right at Trump's level. Also hilarious!

It's going to cost Trump a small fortune (not to mention threats and slurs) to bully his way out of this petition.

Trump's gonna be pissed, though, and jealous. He's been working so hard to destroy everything Obama accomplished.

Trump's still hoping for that Big Score that will get him his own Nobel Peace Prize. FAT CHANCE with all the bats he has in his belfry.

Stupid, not the idea of changing the name, but what they want to name the street.

Honestly, if you wanted a name for the street, be creative.

Trump Tower sits on what street?

Think of the names that you could use!

#26 | Posted by Petrous at 2019-08-16 03:05 PM | Reply

Maybe Trump will start another petition to have all of 5th Avenue named after him. The WHOLE street ~ not just one block ~ as befitting his "tremendous" contributions, the likes of which have never been known anywhere in the world. /snark

Or . . .

Why would Trump stop with renaming an dinky little avenue in NYC after himself?

How about a petition to rename another building? How does "The United Nations of Trump" building sound?
