In an op-ed for the Washington Post, Log Cabin Republicans chairman Robert Kabel and vice chair Jill Homan credited Trump with "removing gay rights as a wedge issue from the old Republican playbook" and "taking bold actions that benefit the LGBTQ community."

F the Log Cabin sellouts. Tax cuts are more important than human rights.

Yet, with Log Cabin Republicans, there is the overwhelming sense that it is about their own personal power that they believe will shield them from bigotry and oppression. Well, I can tell you this right now, the Republicans will still oppress you and take your money. I know folks are fatigued and tired of comparing things to Nazi Germany, but one thing folks don't know about, and really deserves its own unique analysis, is that there were pro-Nazi Jews. They were called the League of National German Jews; upper and upper-middle class assimilationist, nationalist conservatives who claimed ties to German conservative movements and parties (who refused to associate with them). They excused and defended the Nazis because Hitler was just "stirring up the masses." Well, none of that stopped the Nazis from declaring their organization illegal and throwing their leader, Max Naumann, into a concentration camp.

The Log Cabin Republicans are much the same. They say they are fighting for LGBTQ rights, but often conservative LGB folks will throw transgender people under the bus, they will decry LGBTQ activism and culture, especially of the more leftist variety, and associate only with the parts of the community that benefit themselves. To hell with the rest of us, especially if you don't tend toward the lighter-skinned or financially endowed persuasion.

I can respect joining an organization to change it from the inside, to push it to the end goals you think it should aspire to, but there comes a point when one has to recognize that the people you associate with are corrupt beyond redemption and need to be broken apart and removed from power. All LGBTQ rights and cultural advances have come despite the Republican Party fighting tooth and nail the whole way. The Log Cabin Republicans have accomplished nothing " they'll take credit for chipping away at "don't ask, don't tell," but it was Republican homophobia and resistance to LGB military integration that made the very flawed compromise necessary.

I have seen outlandish behavior that backs up your comment 100%. Just because someone is gay doesn't necessarily mean they are prejudiced jerks, I've seen very bad behavior in clubs and restaurants. Even just out on the street walking. Being gay doesn't necessarily change a bully into a decent human being.

So Republicans supporting Republicans is now news?

#7,

But what is news is that you can be gay and a conservative, and I mean a REAL conservative and not be brain washed like the rest of the liberal gays.

Log cabins are cool and I built one with my Lincoln Logs when I was young. [the younger ones here may have to look that up as I doubt that they had Lincoln Logs in their youth]

Boaz, you know the log cabin' thing is a metaphor for a Trojan horse, right?
They're trying to infiltrate your party.

Imagine the walls of a log cabin' falling away as a group of men looking like ----- eye for the straight guy' in pink boxers leap out, yelling Ssssuprise, baytchessss!!!'

What a way to ruin the annual Hell No, Metric System!' Pig Roast. :(

I'd be weary if I were you.

Danni, not everyone bases their voting choices on sexually related issues. The Log Cabin folks may not like the GOP's stance on gay rights, but they may believe in 90% of what the Republicans stand for and only 10% of what the Democrats stand for. So they vote Republican. Get it now?

"Danni, not everyone bases their voting choices on sexually related issues."

Allying themselves with people who hate gays, don't believe in gay marriage is the very definition of self-hating homosexual. And no your're wrong, they don't believe in 90% of what the Republicans stand for, they believe in tax cuts for themselves. They have a price which they believe justifies deserting all the people who fought for their right to be "out", married, employed, and free to be themselves. It's fine, they aren't a very big voting block but I don't have to pretend to like them or respect them. Most of the gay people I've known most of my life feel the same way I do. And your opinion doesn't matter to me at all because your not part of the gay community. I might discuss other issues with you but not that.

Interesting they've gone from Log Cabin Republicans to Uncle Tom's Cabin Republicans.

REAL conservative is to be brainwashed.

There's no other way somebody accepts such a twisted worldview.

This endorsement makes no sense. Bill Weld, a Republican ex-governor, has a far more LGBT-friendly track record and is running for the Republican nomination. What is the point of even having a "Log Cabin Republicans" group if they're going to ignore the gay-friendly candidate in favor of the guy who actively works against LGBT inclusion?

Because in righty world being Republican trumps everything, even Jeebus and their mothers?

But Weld is a Republican too.

I can only think of $22.03 trillion reasons to say the, so called, Conservatives are anything but conservative. They really should be referred to as Oligarchists.

Their endorsement comes from the fear of being outed by an administration more malicious than that of Richard Nixon. Many gay republicans are so far in the closet that they cannot come out without the loss of their wives, jobs, straight friends and fortunes. Trump and his purity squad cannot tolerate gays but will take this endorsement so as to seem like they are "inclusive", despite the endorsement being coerced...

I thought the Log Cabin Republicans are announced the Trump campaign when he last ran.

It figures they would really be cowards.

Yeah try telling them you are Bi. LGBTQ needs to switch to LGTQ cause they have no use for the B.

Like Goat said though voting your sexuality is not the be all and end all for all gay people. So maybe they are rich and pro-tax cut, maybe they are super anti-abortion, maybe they are business owners. Lots of reasons a gay person might not want to support the democrats. However I am confused why they would back Trump before the convention when they have Weld. Sure he'll lose but then they can support Trump after the convention.
