We went to El Paso and Ciudad Juarez to help asylum seekers caught in this program and it was immediately clear: MPP is designed to give the appearance of due process " a day in court where they can ask for asylum " but in reality due process is nowhere to be found. (Most asylum seekers are denied reentry into the U.S. for court hearings.)

The judge asked if any of the individuals had fears of returning to Mexico and all five raised their hands. Not surprising. In 2018, Juarez was one of the most dangerous cities in the world, with 1,247 murders. The judge assured all of the individuals that the ICE attorney in the room would make sure they were screened for their fear of returning to Mexico, but didn't mention that nearly everyone is sent back to Mexico at the end of this screening.

It is virtually impossible to be removed from this program, even if you have been kidnapped or sexually assaulted in Mexico. Applicants requesting this interview are not allowed to have attorneys represent them. Denying someone access to counsel in these circumstances is illegal, by the way.

(Rapes, assaults, cartels, CBP officers denying reentry for spurious reasons. Yep, a farce of a system.)

I fully agree. What's happening at the border is indeed a farce.

It's worse than a farce. It's a crime against humanity.

I wish there was a channel on tv in the future that's just video of trump supporters trying to justify their trump support to their grandkids, telling them why they thought it was a good idea to terrorize children and ruin the environment.

$775 per night per detainee? That's a farce.

If the judge didnt see the person asking for asylum, and ruled according to law, then color wouldn't be an excuse.

Perhaps we need something like:

"The Judge" Plead your case. Our four judges will listen to your plea. You just need one judge to turn their seat.

WTF are you talking about? Mexico isn't removing them from the US and not allowing them back in for their court dates.

Hmmm....let's remember that these policies have been in place and been enforced since well before trump...

None of this is new. The outrage, however, is.

No, they haven't. Why the lie?

People were held for less than 72 hours in holding facilities. Now kids are there for months.

People weren't kicked out of the country while waiting for asylum hearings. Now they are.

These are basic facts. I can explain it to you. I can't understand it for you.
