President Donald Trump on Wednesday backed off his public support for a payroll tax cut or a reduction in capital gains taxes, just 24 hours after saying he would "love to do something" on both fronts. "I'm not looking at a tax cut now," Trump told reporters on Wednesday as he prepared to leave town for a veterans event. ... Despite increasing fears of a recession, Trump vehemently disavowed any suggestion that the economy is sliding downward. "Let's have a recession," he said. "The United States is doing phenomenally well."

The economy is doing great! But we desperately need an interest rate cut or we're all doomed!

The tariffs dont affect american consumers at all! But we cant enact them until after the xmas shopping season!

See the pattern here?

... Trump vehemently disavowed any suggestion that the economy is sliding downward. ...

Then why is he considering all these ideas that seem to be helpful in preventing a recession?

Why has he been badgering the Fed for a 100 basis point cut?

The silver lining in the cloud of this --------- is that Trump and his Comedy team are being exposed as know-nothings who cannot be trusted when the US economy hits a bump in the road, much less a larger issue. Imagine if Trump were in charge anytime between 2007-2010. We would all be eating the neighbor's dog right now...

That would be a silver lining if his supporters heard about it or cared. They don't, and they don't. The con man says things are great and that's all they need.

Donald Trump campaigned on the promise to pay down the debt in 8 years.

The national deficit double under Trump thus far and will hit $1 trillion next year.

McConnell and Mnuchin both said the tax cuts would pay for themselves.

The tax cuts have done nothing for the economy as corporations sat on the money or bought stock back.

Trump has renegotiated only ONE trade deal (with South Korea).

If we hit a recession, we can't use a stimulus to get the economy going because of the tax cuts.

Republicans have basically screwed the country.

Stopgap measures never helped stop a recession, anyway. It's like strying to stop a train by putting a rope across the track.

With enough rope he'll Epstein himself.

It's been said about many 'changes of mind' Trump's had that it all depends on who had his ear last.

The guy has no core values or actual stances on anything.

Except blaming brown people.

And for his base that's enough.
