Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Wednesday, August 21, 2019

Yes, President Trump, when asked about his ongoing trade war with China, deemed himself "the chosen one" when talking with reporters outside the White House on Wednesday. As Trump put it, when it comes to dealing with China's trade practices, "somebody had to do it." He then added "I am the chosen one" as he looked up to the sky.

Trump's bragging about his religious significance is going to make some Evangelicals go "Hmmmmmm".

Next stop: Trump suggests that Americans be tattooed with a special mark to buy and sell.

Trump's mark could be applied only to persons who could prove they are American citizens. I think the attractiveness of this idea to the Body of Trump, his church, is very apparent. No migrant could survive here.

The "second coming of God?" I didn't think they believed in the "first coming of God."

Trump is crazier than King George III. Syphlis? I'm thinking probably. He does seem to be getting crazier by the day.

@#6 ... China isn't giving in an inch ...

In the video in #5, he is also trying to distance himself from the trade war he created, saying that it is not his trade war.

I guess he no longer believes what he said, "Trade wars are good, and easy to win."

Sometimes I think he went into his trade war thinking only that China would humble itself at his feet, and that was the extent of his strategy.

China has a lot more to lose in a trade war than the US. We are their biggest customer. They will soon be hurting if they don't find buyers for their cheap junk. The market is saturated. They've no one else to sell to.

Offended? No.

Romans in Scripture states God places leaders in place and we are subject to those leaders.

We can, however choose not to sin, even if the authority demands it of us.

I will say, that any leader that recognizes their position as God-given, carries a great responsibility but also bears the consequence. Claiming God also accepts the response.

Yes, those who put people in power carry responsibility of their actions. Those that lead have the harder job...the temptation with power...well, you know saying...absolute

Hoo boy, he's on a real roll today.

While talking with veterans on Wednesday, President Donald Trump vowed that he would not politicize the event by reciting his 2020 campaign slogan " and then did it anyway just seconds later.

While addressing the American Veterans National Convention in Louisville, Kentucky, the president made light of the fact that he was not supposed to be using his speech to promote his reelection campaign and was only there to talk about his administration's work on behalf of veterans.

"In all things, we are putting our country first," the president said. "We are saying, let's say Make America great again,' but we are almost there, Make America great again.' We may have to switch it. You know what we're going to switch it to? Huh? Yeah? That is right. I will not say it here, because this is not a campaign speech."

"I will not say Keep America great,' but we are going to keep America great," the president said.

Because the party of "family values" is STILL all-in behind the thrice married, twice adulterous and divorced, "grab them by the -----" racist. Republicans carrying water for that crappy human being even though he is contrary to all the values the profess to hold dear is not news.

But, it is fun to point it out and mock the hypocrites.

'Whatever one thinks of Trump's trade-war goals, his tactics appear to have left him at Xi's mercy. The Chinese people " 60 percent of whom spend less than $10 a day " are far more accustomed to economic pain than Trump's Americans, and they have no meaningful right to vote. So Xi can probably afford to absorb the economic pain necessary to push the trade war past Election Day. This would greatly increase the chance of a recession in 2020 and damage the American president's chance of reelection.

On the other hand, Xi also has the power to make a few token concessions that would allow Trump to claim victory in the trade war. Markets would give a hearty cheer; Trump would crown himself the China slayer. But Xi might gain four more years of severe disruption in the West.'

Side note to all this. I was thinking about this whole China thing and it costing the average American household $1000/year last night and people saying just buy something made elsewhere. It dawned on me as I was searching for a product. People who are arguing "just buy it from somewhere else" don't get how pervasive and competitively priced Chinese goods are. Even when there is something not Chinese made that is of sufficient quality the price is often significantly higher. So one way or another you pay more.

A recent example I bought a wine press. I actually didn't want something Chinese made but this is a very preliminary hobby for me and I didn't want to get something high end. Well, there was a small Chinese made model everywhere for around $60. Very old school and simple. Then there were other models that were the next level up of product. Basically they cost twice as much and all seem to still be made in China. Anything not Chinese made was more like $300 or more. So in summary it was still half the price to buy Chinese. So, I buy it and pay for the tariff or I spend a lot more on a non-Chinese product - either way I am spending more money than buying the same Chinese product prior to the tariffs...

Talk about taking something out of context to fit your political memes. Obama never said HE would be the cause:

The journey will be difficult. The road will be long. I face this challenge with profound humility, and knowledge of my own limitations. But I also face it with limitless faith in the capacity of the American people. Because if we are willing to work for it, and fight for it, and believe in it, then I am absolutely certain that generations from now, we will be able to look back and tell our children that this was the moment when we began to provide care for the sick and good jobs to the jobless; this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal; this was the moment when we ended a war and secured our nation and restored our image as the last, best hope on Earth. This was the moment - this was the time - when we came together to remake this great nation so that it may always reflect our very best selves, and our highest ideals. Thank you, God Bless you, and may God Bless the United States of America.

What a wackjob Trump is. Telling Jews they don't know what they're doing or saying. Retweeting another lunatic who says Israelis love him so much he's like the king of Israel or the Second Coming of God. Not that Jews believe in the Second Coming, and they most assuredly don't believe that whole related Rapture bit in which the Jews have a choice between getting with the program Christianity-wise or burning in Hell forever.

See, here's the thing: Evangelicals see the very establishment of Israel in 1948 as a sign of the Prophecy... i.e., the Rapture is nearly upon us, in which 144,000 Jews will convert to Christianity and then go around the world fulfilling their heavenly assignment to convert everyone else before the apocalypse wipes out the unconverted and banishes them to eternal damnation. I know, weird, right? That's why a lot of the loudest voices on the right "love" Israel.

So Trump, who is clueless about all this, just digs the fact that some nutcase (who claims he's one of the converted ex-Jews) compared him to a king and possibly God. This is like a dealer giving a junkie a free hit of heroin. The adoration addict Trump is high as a kite on praise-based dopamine, and he can't help making another reference to his own divinity when talking about, oh, I don't know, how about China.

He's freaking nuts.

If you're NOT an elected official nor one appointed to a position of public trust, I would tend to agree with you. However, once you ask the public for their support, you owe them total transparency. After all, while it may be an honor to hold public office, elected or otherwise, it's still a voluntary endeavor and comes with an additional level of responsibility to the nation and its citizens.

I call it out to point out the flagrant hypocrisy.

*Jeff dons his political hat* It was a brilliant bit of campaigning on Obama's part. He was being deified by the MSM and his supporters in a cult-fashion and he ran with it. I have no problem with that and actually respect the tactical aspect of it politically.

I've tortured myself and have watched this clip (the 1+ minute version linked above) 3 times now (Trump is SO painful to listen to). I can translate his supposedly horrific "Chosen one" comment...

First, a few facts:

*China has been stealing both intellectual property and technology from our county, with impunity, for well over a decade.

*China has been deliberately devaluing its currency in the global market, for economic advantage (cheating) for well over a decade.

*Everybody knows it and none of our leaders have done anything about it other than grouse about it.

*Trump has been harping on this for years - long predating his presidential run.

OK, now that we've established some basic facts, I'll translate his supposedly offensive comment that has loosened so many bowels...

He gave a quick rundown of all of China's cheating and clumsily pointed out that previous presidents didn't do squat about it. It was on that point that he somewhat sarcastically proclaimed he is "the chosen one".

In context, what that means is that according to him he's the only one with the stones to recognize the problem, articulate it clearly and take actions to deal with it.

Now, I think tariffs suck and I can certainly understand criticizing how he's attempting to deal with this. Fair enough.

But in the broad scheme of things, his flippant comment makes sense given how he was framing this situation.

This phrasing is nationalistic trade war propaganda.
They've been stealing IP from American companies, especially American companies that bring their technology to China to have it manufactured at lower cost.
That's not "our" technology.
We don't own it.

I don't make excuses. I'm 48 years old and have been married for almost 24 years. We have 2 boys ages 18 and 15 and both are now sophomores.

We own a 1900 square foot house and own 3 modest vehicles.

Over the course of my life my views have evolved on a myriad of issues.

I have never even come close to the wild pendulum swing that you have with your political views.

Undoubtedly your views have been shaped, at least to some extent, by your own personal experiences.

Wild pendulum swings usually have a cause.

In this case, for both Joe and Nulli, Trump seems to be the motivation.

Nulli has embraced Trump's xenophobic rhetoric.

Clown,

As a Libertarian Joe despised the Republican Party and George W Bush.

Nulli has always been a strong proponent of freedom of speech and robust debate. The Left that he used to be a part of abandoned him on this front completely.

He's not alone on this.

Liberals such as Piers Morgan, Kirsten Powers, Bill Maher and countless others have been calling out the vociferous, illiberal and fascist tack of the new Left as it pertains to dealing with opposition viewpoints.

Drop it. You're picking one line - out of context - to make a point that doesn't exist in the real world.

Here it is in context. Will you be honest or not? Obama never said HE was going to do anything. He was talking about US ... the American people coming together to deal with some of the problems facing us.

Let's not ignore the obvious . . . if Trump believes he's the "chosen one," he's hearing voices in his head.

However, I have my doubts about who the owner of that voice REALLY is. Evil has a way of manifesting itself when it finds a receptive host.

There's no doubt that Trump is a very receptive host.

I love this President ; comedy gold and also a deep sense of how to send rockets up the arse of his opposition.
"The Chosen One", he says, looks up to the sky...He knows that his critics will go ballistic. He's sending them up.
"I'd like to buy Greenland"; "How dare he ?" they splutter. Diplomatic spat ensues, a declaration of tweet war begins, another ally is offended.
The opposition to Trump is undecided how to attack him. They can't engage in his Fleet Street mannerisms because they decry his decorum for the highest office in the land. They can't energise their base in the same sense because that goes against their inclusive, progressive, multiethnic agenda. And Trump has brilliantly blocked the more anti-DNC establishment elements that may birth a new vigour back into the Democrat party by branding AOC and her squad "socialists" and "commies". What to do ? His undoing may be if Kim belittles him or something kicks off in the financial markets or Iran. Certainly nothing the opposition can do or any candidate they present can challenge.

Trump's political strategy is primitive but effective. He picks something that polls badly, and kicks it in the crotch. Then he backs off and lets three eternal truths do the rest of the work.

There was no interpretation or translation needed. Your interpretation ignores the raising his hands and eyes to the sky piece.

But since that doesn't fit youe "interpretation" (known also as mental gymnastics} you ignore it.

Which is the truth? What he said and did or your interpretation of it. I don't need to translate his words.

"When did enforcing horder and immigration laws become xenophobic?"

It's fair to say that Trump has engaged in xenophobic rhetoric, ever since before he was even in a position to enforce any laws when he was a candidate.

It's also fair to say that over half of the Democratic candidates want to repeal current border and immigration laws, not just change how they're enforced, while at the same time giving incentives for more illegal and fraudulent immigrants to enter the US.

It wouldn't be "out of context" if Obama said that. You all claimed he had a messiah complex even though he never said anything in that regard. And don't forget his "King of the Jews, Second Coming of God" retweet earlier that day.

Sure they do.

Sanctuary cities.
Promises of government services.
Bemoaning any deportations.
DACA/DAPA

Now, we are seeing campaign candidates calling for:

Abolishing ICE
Decriminalizing illegal border entry
Free healthcare for illegal immigrants
A quick path to citizenship for those who enter illegally

ALL of those things, from current and recent actions to future promises serve as incentive to come here illegally.

Democrats put those policies into place and it's Democrats who are making these promises like decriminalizing illegal border entry.

When I was a kid people looked up to our leadership. We expected them to be moral decent people. I expect our President to be someone worthy of a position of honor. Most people used to too. You guys spent 5 years to get Bill Clinton to tell one lie about a sexual encounter between consenting adults before Congress and you impeached him for it. You tried to remove him from office for 1 lie! Now you support a man who has openly committed fraud, lies constantly, and has no moral or ethical bottom. You do not even pretend to hold him accountable for anything. I would like to tell my grandkids that they can do anything they want even become president. I want to tell them that if they need help find a police officer but In the current environment I can't do it. I can't tell my kids to forget what they have seen police do and change what they feel. Telling them that they aren't all like that will not overcome the fear of police that having the police crash through the front door while he was at his best friends house. He can't unsee his friends dad getting tackled and held face down on the floor. And they can't take back arresting his friend's dad and keeping him in jail for 11 days before figuring out that he really wasn't "their guy". Also he had to burn 7 days of PTO and could easily have lost his job. And I refuse to tell them that the presidency is something to aspire to only to have them think that they can wing it through their whole life without working for anything or keeping their word or telling the Truth because that is what they see when they look at Trump.

And if they're coming here for jobs, the blame for that lies entirely with their employers.

How is this even debatable?

#176 | Posted by snoofy at 2019-08-22 03:49 PM | Reply

- the blame for that lies entirely with their employers.

The employee is responsible for committing identity fraud.

Employers are guilty of looking the other way. Both parties are complicit.

You want to continue the fraud.

No I don't.

There are MORE illegal immigrants in the U.S. now than there was under Obama.

Trump's policies aren't working. But they sure are causing mass human suffering.

Focus on employers like Obama did and perhaps he'll get better results.

It's taken a little bit out of context but it was still a stupid thing to say. Trump likes to talk in "chaff." He throws stuff out there because he knows it'll draw the fire away from more important targets for a couple days.

Other than to ridicule, I'm surprised the media (including the Drudge Retort) doesn't give Trump the "grain of salt" treatment for most of his diversionary tactics. "Greenland" comes to mind as well.

A laugh track would come in handy for these occasions.

Remember when Conservatives on here spent years chastising Obama when he said: "I've now been in fifty...(looks off camera)...seven states?"

They pretended he said 57 states rather than responding to a campaign aide who said they visited 47 states with a long pause.

Now we have this kind of stuff from Trump daily and all I hear from Conservatives are crickets.

As far as Trump and misspeaking goes, it's almost like English is his second language:

Since Stephen Miller writes Trump's talking points somebody should tell Mr. Miller that Beijing isn't a country. ~ LOL

Apparently the "best orator" didn't know that either.

The two of them together is like watching a revival of the Edgar Bergan and Charlie McCarthy Show.
