Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Wednesday, August 21, 2019

Jonathan Chait: If the president is seeking more insight into why Jews have failed to jump onto the Trump train, this tweetstorm itself supplies more evidence. Root is taking the traditional complaint that Christians make against Jews - Why are you stiff-necked people forsaking your Lord and Savior? - and substituting Trump himself for the role of the Messiah.

Trump is the 45th reason why the presidency and the DC complex should be abolished.

Washington DC is a city-state unto itself, like the Vatican in Rome.

The South wanted to leave the union over taxes.
It was understood at that time that the states had the right to leave the union.

In Ray's mind, it might be true.

Thus, freeing the slaves could be seen as a massive tax increase.

#22 | POSTED BY SNOOFY

No, he didn't. You haven't earned it by any stretch, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you memorized the MSM's blatantly dishonest reporting about what he actually said.

Here is the full quote:

"Excuse me, excuse me. They didn't put themselves -- and you had some very bad people in that group, but you also had people that were very fine people, on both sides. You had people in that group. Excuse me, excuse me. I saw the same pictures as you did. You had people in that group that were there to protest the taking down of, to them, a very, very important statue and the renaming of a park from Robert E. Lee to another name."

One side consisted of a combination of both bad (neo-Nazi's) and fine (people protesting the removal of a statue). He made a very clear differentiation.

Here is a transcript:

www.politifact.com

Now that you know the full context you should never make the claim you just made again. To do so, knowing what you now know, would be lying.

*Jeff dons his political hat* It's great politicking to take that quote out of context. The Dems/Left/MSM have done a masterful job of distorting what he said. That's good political tactics.

Having said that, on this blog we aren't politicking so much as we are debating and discussion issues. So, it's important to get the facts right and set the record straight.

Does not say Obama was going to stop it.
If you read the whole thing, it says We The People are going to stop it.
Last paragraph of Obama's nomination speech, he wasn't yet President:

The journey will be difficult. The road will be long. I face this challenge with profound humility, and knowledge of my own limitations. But I also face it with limitless faith in the capacity of the American people. Because if we are willing to work for it, and fight for it, and believe in it, then I am absolutely certain that generations from now, we will be able to look back and tell our children that this was the moment when we began to provide care for the sick and good jobs to the jobless; this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal; this was the moment when we ended a war and secured our nation and restored our image as the last, best hope on Earth. This was the moment - this was the time - when we came together to remake this great nation so that it may always reflect our very best selves, and our highest ideals. Thank you, God Bless you, and may God Bless the United States of America.

Too early to tell. Your party sure picks some destructive morons dont they?

Trump's damage wont be fully felt for years. It will take time to see how many other sociopaths he inspires to pursue power by showing the world the path to success is lying cheating and stealing, and if you're rich you wont be prosecuted for it. The disastrous effects of his tax cuts haven't collapsed the economy yet, but they will, and stupid repubs will blame whoever is in power at the time instead of the moron who created the problem. The full effect of his climate policies wont be felt for years but they will be felt, likely at a time when your party is pretending they never supported him in the first place.

Because Libertarians are just like Communists. Their whole ideology is just completely unrealistic. Ask them to show you an example of it in the real world, and they will tell you no one has implemented it "correctly" yet.

Any system has to be stable to survive and spread. Like capitalism and democracy has. Any "pure" Libertarian system will descend into corruption, authoritarianism, and robberbaron-ism in a very short time period, just like we saw with communism.

#36 | POSTED BY SNOOFY

Have to stick up for Jeff here. You are pretty much admitting that you are taking the quote out of context because you are admitting these people aren't Nazis.

And, while I think most of the people who descended on the city to protest the statue were probably doing it for reasons that had racist undertones (or were just overtly racist), there were probably also people there that just didn't want a historical statue removed from their town or some other innocuous reason.

I am pretty sure that Trump's purpose was to draw a false equivalence between the two groups, but that is Republican SOP. But, TECHNICALLY, if you JUST read the quote and draw NO CONCLUSIONS about it from the CONTEXT of the situtation, then you can make the argument that Trump's quote was really just acknowledging that there were some people that weren't Nazi terrorists in the group that was protesting the statue's removal.

As you can probably tell from my post, I think the argument is pretty weak and a little intellectually dishonest, but the argument CAN be made.

Do you think Trump has been more damaging than W, at least so far?
It's not a 'gotcha' - just curious.

Yes. No doubt.

He damages just about everything he touches. Faith in government institutions (FBI and Supreme Court are the big ones, but it carries over to just about the whole government). Has pretty much destroyed American "soft power" when it comes to foreign relations. Intentionally divided the country and tried to set different factions at each other's throats.

W basically just damaged the US in getting us into wars. The rest was pretty typical Republican stuff (destroy the environment, increase income inequality, etc). That mostly damages the US by giving us liabilities that we have to deal with.

Trump is actually tearing at the fabric of this country. The damage he is doing now will be felt for generations.

"there were probably also people there that just didn't want a historical statue removed from their town or some other innocuous reason."

I wonder what those people did when the Neo-Nazis started marching around with their torches? I wish we had heard from these people after the fact. Surely they would have distanced themselves from the "Jews will not replace us" crowd and objected to their protest being usurped by white supremacists, and yet I don't remember hearing much from them along these lines.
