Kanrei: I've stayed silent for a long time and I can't hold my tongue any longer. My retirement continues, but I got to get this stuff out. First it was Mexicans are rapists and criminals while "some I assume are also good people." A neo-Nazi rally where chants of "Jews will not replace us" by torch-welding marchers was described as "good people on both sides." Hispanic immigrants are referred to as an invaders who are coming to "replace" you. Mostly black neighborhoods and cities are described as "rodent infested." Jewish people who don't support him are disloyal to "the King of the Jews" and the "Chosen One." If he ain't a racist bigoted xenophobe, he sure does a great impression of one.
Then there are the less subtle dog whistles he likes to employ most people miss due to a lack of historic knowledge.
It is impossible to hear Trump proclaim this nation is full and not think of the Voyage of the Damned and the MS St. Louis.
It is impossible to hear "America for Americans" and not think of those first few solutions the Germans tried before reaching that "final" one: things like German-first laws, laws restricting non-German business ownership, etc.
It is impossible to see families arrested for seeking asylum (no one seeking asylum can be an illegal immigrant since the laws allow one to enter anywhere to get asylum) and not think of internment camps if not concentration camps.
I can already hear some of you screaming "Godwin's Rule," but I refuse to allow Nazi-like behavior to hide behind some little internet meme. If you don't like the comparisons then stop the behavior that is so strikingly similar.
What has me so outraged however is this Jewish identity politics trump is engaging in to try and shift focus away from his overt racism and to try to normalize it under "everyone does it too." Disloyal! Dis-freaking-loyal! How many times have I had that accusation thrown at me because it was assumed I had split loyalties between America and Israel and how ironic to now have that same accusation thrown about for NOT supporting Israel.
It is like my family joke: What country are we from? Depends on when you ask as we stayed in one place but the borders kept moving. Well, I have kept the same opinion on Israel and I am called disloyal regardless of the assumed opinion that is.
Are the "Squad" anti-Semitic: Dunno. They clearly don't like Israel, but dislike of one is not dislike of the other. Ask any evangelical who loves Israel but believes Jews are Hell-bound for not accepting Christ if you can support one and not the other.
Saying people only support Israel "for the Benjamins" is not racist if said support comes from financial donations. You know what is anti-Semitic? If you thought of Jewish people when you heard "Benjamins" then you might be one. I thought of the slang term for $100 bills.
You know what is anti-Semitic? Assuming Jewish people are monolithic in thought with the Israeli PM as the Queen Bee driving the hive.
In my way of seeing things, America is MY Chosen land and Americans are my Chosen people because it is in America I am free to be the Jew I feel I should be. Even in Israel there is a constant threat to your life simply for being Jewish, but not in America.
I never have had split loyalties and I am proud of my Jewish faith. And I am a proud American which is why, while may not agree with the Squad, I believe in that quaint American concept of "I may not like what you say but I would die for your right to say it."
Now for the million dollar question: Do I honestly believe Donald Trump is a racist? No, I believe he is a narcissistic megalomaniac who sees things like "racism" and "xenophobia" and "us vs them" as tools to help feed his ego.
I don't believe he has enough core values to even have misguided values.
In other words I don't believe he is racist because I don't believe he cares enough about anything other than himself. Thank you for your time. I probably will not have opportunity to respond, so have fun.
