Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Thursday, August 22, 2019

In 15 days, the Raiders host the Packers in Winnipeg. The fans won't have to worry about lines at the bathrooms. Via Carter Brooks of Game On Magazine in Winnipeg, only 8,944 tickets have been sold to the preseason game. That's 27 percent of the 33,000-seat capacity at IG Field. One of the problems could be the price point. Via Brooks, the cheapest ticket cost $191.50 Canadian. This equates to $143.70 in American dollars, under the current conversion rate. And that's a lot of money for a glorified scrimmage in full pads. Even if it's the supposedly critical third preseason game.

The cost of professional sports has gotten ridiculous.

Fueled by ESPN's ability to raise the monthly cost of their cable channels to near-premium-channel levels, the professional sports leagues have been sucking in extreme amounts of money from fans and cable viewers and cable non-viewers.

imo, the professional sports industry need a humbling moment.

I work in this industry sort of, OTT boxes/backend services for Operators. I heard that the cost of the channel "packages" is driven by sport entertainment costs to the Operators.

I see stadiums not close to "full", and people staying home watching, I can only imagine, soon people won't tune in because they think no one is going to the games.

Even the MSL is becoming a racket.

$150 is actually $8 under the pre-season ticket average for the entire NFL.

"In 15 days" was actually last night. Oakland defeated Green Bay 22-21 with a field goal in the last 8 seconds.

Attendance was 21,992. About the same for a CFL exhibition game and over the expected 20,000.

No Fun League.

The NFL started sucking after the Mel Blount Rule. Quarterbacks should wear skirts in today's NFL.

Baseball games are a lot more fun, cheaper, and more numerous. Then of course they have their farm leagues which to me are as much fun watching as the Majors. I love going to the San Antonio Mission's games. Their $2 night is great. Admission, parking, hot dogs, and beer are all $2. But even other games are more affordable than any NFL game. What it costs for one person for an NFL game will get a family of 5 or six the whole package at a AAA game here in San ANtonio.

I love sports but don't know how people spring for season tickets for the soulless NFL. I love my buccaneers, but if I lived in the area it would be a sacrifice of a Sunday to be uncomfortable in a direct-sun stadium for all the 1pm games til mid-November when temperatures finally get to a livable level

Season tickets for college football, now I could get behind that because there's much more than a commercial on-field product with the purchase of that type of package. Unfortunately, Tallahassee is kind of in the middle of nowhere.

Love the town though
