If Dems spent as much time looking for a decent candidate with fresh, workable ideas as they do wringing their hands over Trump's every tweet, they might actually have a shot at winning the White House in 2020.

Perhaps this is why Trump plays the Democrats like a fiddle: To keep their mind occupied on him and on the search for a candidate who can beat him.

#3 perhaps if there wasn't a large percentage of our electorate who wasn't so deplorable as to deflect for and defend a schitt heap like Trump we wouldn't be in this position to begin with.

Trump is all democrats talk about. They don't discuss healthcare, education, tax plans, infrastructure, nothing.

24 hours a day, 7 days a week, Trump, Trump, Trump. I think they're trying to get him elected again.

Death by a thousand papercuts is just as effective as impeachment. Better if the two are combined.

Trump's maniacal edicts will be carved on his political tombstone and, in case nobody has noticed, Nancy Pelosi is the one holding the chisel. (Or the fiddle as the case may be)

And, as the pressure mounts and the edicts become more ridiculous every day, dumbass Trump doesn't even know he's being played by the best in the business.

Only talking to reporters in front of a roaring helicopter is such an obvious propaganda technique.

Trump knows morons will trust him more if he's yelling, so he needs a situation that requires him to yell.

He can't yell in a 1 on 1 interview or a press room, he'd sound more meek and stupid talking in a normal voice, so he only talks in front of his running helicopter where he can shout like his authoritarian fascist idols throughout history.

What you're describing is just a bunch of tiny countries. And each would have their own central government. So you'd have to break those up in the counties, then cities. Smaller and smaller. Until it's just cave people living with their families in a single family cave.

It sounds like your "Federation of States" would have a disastrous impact on interstate commerce.

Are you suggesting that each state should be an island unto itself? And maybe Checkpoint Charlie at state lines to make sure nobody was violating another state's treaty or choice to be autonomous?

Suppose one state wanted to block, say . . . internet service? Or any electronic communication? Or share medical breakthroughs?

Suppose some states had a beef with the postal service? Or corporations who had their headquarters in one state and their manufacturing in another? How about judicial districts or extradition of criminals?

Or how about . . . "United we stand, divided we fall?

I'm glad to hear that. Your "federation of states" fantasy is totally impractical.

That "United we stand, divided we fall" thing took a civil war to resolve. What you were suggesting was a lot of mini civil wars with every state wanting their half out of the middle. (politicians being what they are.)

You'd be looking at a country in flames.

No less impractical than a central government overriding the states.

Italy is a good example when it was composed of city-states.

Again. This is a human nature problem that no form of government can solve.

AU

If Trump gets any credit at all it's for following the instructions of Vladimir Putin to destroy American democracy. Create chaos and mayhem, spread hate and suspicion. Alienate allies and invent enemies. Punish dissenters and praise his enablers. Mobilize the disenfranchised and kill, kill, kill!. Burn the country to the ground if necessary and let a dictator rise from the ashes.

In case nobody has noticed, Trump's been on that mission since the day he was elected. He's doing exactly what Russia elected him to do.

#31 | Posted by Twinpac at 2019-08-24 04:54 AM | Reply

I think it's true that the backdraft from all the fires Trump has started throughout his mission to destroy democracy is starting to wear on him. It's not burning fast enough in spite of his best efforts. He's putting on a good front but there's turmoil boiling behind the faade. And FEAR! There's a lot of scary people holding his markers, domestic and foreign. Promises were made and bets were down. They expect a payoff for their investment.

Trump is a liar, a thief, a braggard, a con-man and a carnival barker. He's a narcissist, a cheat, an adulterer and a sociopath without a conscience. He's a misogynist with an inferiority complex. His God is money and power. He exploits the weak and helpless. He watches with a blank stare as children die at the hands of his political financiers. He feeds his need for power by inflicting pain and misery on the defenseless and demanding total subservience from others. He surrounds himself with sycophants who squirm before him like grub worms.

I suppose all this plays into the making of a future mad Dictator, the likes of which have peppered history throughout the ages. Trump himself may not live that long but once the ground has been plowed there are others who are anxious assume the mantle.

No blame for the party of 100,000,000 people that elected him and continue to support him for the last 2.5-3 years?

Apparently in your world it's not the mass shooter's fault for killing people, it's the fault of those who didn't stop him.

"It's hard to overstate how badly our system failed us that a man this unfit & broken could ascend to the presidency. "

And THAT is a testament on just how bad we felt about voting for madam Klithorn.

Your feelings expressed towards Hillary Clinton are a manifestation of your inability to think critically and logically. Not entirely your fault. It's the result of a billion dollar industry built to demonize her and make money off her and to play off your inherent bias. You ate it up.

Trump is a testament to how destructive the GOP is. Utterly amoral, vile, and unpatriotic. Trump is exactly what should have been expected to emerge from the cesspool of the GOP downward spiral.

So this destruction of the GOP? Of America? Its principles? Its leadership? You built it. You own it.

We all suffer.

Where the Democrats and Independents, Journalists (such a disservice to their profession) failed is be letting it get this far.

2016 will go down in history as the election in which voters were given no acceptable choice.

I think it will go down in historu as the election where people didn't vote for an acceptable choice.

Why do people fear third party so? Why do they keep begging for the same old thing, then bitch when they get it?

"Why do people fear third party so?"

Fear?
What has third party ever done, to engender fear?
The only thing I can think of is peel off voters from the major parties.

"Why do they keep begging for the same old thing, then bitch when they get it?"

What are you referring to?
What are people begging for?

You are the one who has been begging for people to vote third party. In 2016, a whole lot of Never Trumpers, presumably you too, did just that and voted third party.

You begged.
You got what you wanted.
And now you're bitching about it.

Why?

Michael Gerson: "Trump veered from topic to topic with utter confidence, alarming ignorance, minimal coherence and relentless duplicity."

Just like in 2016.

If you think Trump's stupidity will sink him. Think again.

His deplorable base loves him for it.

The rest of his voters are party line republicans who would vote for anyone before a Democrat.
