Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Friday, August 23, 2019

In May, the Treasury Department refused a statutory and subpoena request for President Trump's tax returns. Now, it's unclear whether Democrats will get them.

Just start a formal impeachment inquiry, get criminal subpoena power and serve new subpoenas.

Maybe Dems should be working on a Constitutional amendment that says prsidential candidates must discolse tax returns. Why don't they? Well, I suspect it's because they want to be able to say "no" to the same request.

I suspect it's because they want to be able to say "no" to the same request.

The next democratic presidential candidate to not disclose their tax returns will be the first.

Matter of fact. Some states have made laws requiring candidates to release their tax returns in order to be eligible to be on the ticket.

Meanwhile in New York state.

"President Trump sued New York State officials and the House Ways and Means Committee on Tuesday to try to block congressional Democrats from using a recently enacted New York law to obtain his state tax returns.

"The lawsuit, filed by the president's private lawyers in federal court in Washington, opens a new front in Mr. Trump's fight to keep his tax returns secret. His administration has already rejected subpoenas from the Ways and Means Committee for his federal tax information, prompting the House to file a lawsuit of its own in recent weeks seeking enforcement.

"Now Mr. Trump is moving to close a side door opened by Democratic lawmakers in his home state by asking a judge to declare that the Ways and Means Committee "lacks a legitimate legislative purpose" to request his state tax returns. The suit also seeks to nullify the New York law outright before Congress decides whether to use it."

We may not have his tax returns but we can go full press in telling voters what we suspect is contained in them, loudly and clearly. Trump owes billions to Russians and Saudi Princes, that's how he funds his business. If that isn't true then why won't he reveal his tax returns? Curious minds want to know why anyone would vote for a traitor to his country? If it's all untrue Mr. Trump then reveal your tax returns and prove it. But he won'g because he can't. He is a traitor, most of us know it, and he will never have a second term. Thank God!
Remember how he called Hillary "Crooked Hillary?" He should only be referred to as "Traitor Trump." Who would vote for a traitor except another traitor?

There are many mothers to the Trump win but I think you have the list of those responsible a bit out of order, if I'm understanding you correctly. The people who cast their ballots for Trump are primarily responsible for where we are today. And we should never allow ourselves to forget that. I'd put the Democratic candidate probably third or fourth on that list.

Bu FAR the most irrelevant topic that could be posted, regarding ANY president. It's pretty simple so lemme spell it out for those who do not understand.

It is NOT ILLEGAL, nor mandatory in any way, that ANY president of the USA make their tax returns public. Maybe it has to do with the fact that the entire IRS & the US tax on income is unconstitutional & thus illegal...I'm not sure there. But going from Russian collusion for over 2 fkng years & millions of OUR tax dollars, which half of us knew was always BS, to this?

Desperation has taken on a whole new wonderful & beautiful meaning for me. Just walkthefkaway

How sad you have to selectively cherry pick 15 posts to make your point rather than use the metric I used. But yes, I did have a few single word replies that said simply "obsessed" and it was spot on.

But I'm not a bit surprised you side with the truly obsessed one who acts like a child and calls me and other names in post after post. Name calling is what people do when they have no valid argument. And apparently those who support these juveniles have the same issue.

reading RoC's posts where he swoops in to rescue you, you damsel in distress you.

You are being a full blown ankle biter nearing CocoChief and AbortedMoron levels of obsessiveness.

If you can't see that maybe you and Oldwhineysnowflake can form the He Man Goatman Haters Club.

Yawn. Refreshing a thread isn't "ankle biting".

He's probably posted on every thread active right now. If I was commenting on every thread like this one you'd have a point.

Until then you're just whining like goatshart.

Let's go to the video tape. You can spot JPW and the rest of the mob if you look closely.

So you can't see that...

There's nothing to see.

It's been --- for tat on one thread.

So either he's ankle biting me back or you deserve a reach around.

As for Nulli, goat can stir schitt just fine without his knights in plastic armor riding to his rescue.

This is what not getting Trump's taxes has done to JPW's mind.

Once a thoughtful contributor, now reduced to slobbering on ankles.

To the headline...

Mnuchin is purposely defying what is clearly the law. "Shall" is a directive, and there are no listed exceptions. Despite that, the Trump administration's policy is obvious: slow-walk everything through the courts, forcing every move with a legal screwdriver thrown into the gears.

And, of course, at the center of it all...Trump was lying. Surprise, surprise. The tax return he refused to release until the audit was over, has now gone out of statute for an audit, unless the IRS found proof of "a substantial understatement of income", in which case the IRS has six years instead of the usual three. Substantial = 25% or more. (There is no statute of limitations if a return is not filed.)

So...either Trump's taxes are finished with the audit, or the IRS has found a substantial understatement of income. Or...Trump was never under audit for that year in the first place, and he was lying about it the whole time.

I agree 100%. And he's not the only one who degraded themself. Yav and clownshack come to mind.

I was gone 2.5 years, so they can't see themselves getting more petty and less contributing much like one can't see the growth of a tree day by day. But so many have become so hateful in the last 2.5 years. I can only imagine it is extreme butt-hurt that they lost in 2016 and they are lashing out. I can think of no other reason for their onset of hate and siding with their clique, even when their clique is clearly in the wrong.

JPW never used to stalk me and engage in the extreme childish name calling he now does. Yav used to not side with people like JPW simply because they were both liberals. People who allow politics to engulf their minds like those two need to step away from the keyboard, take a deep breath, and focus on what's important in life.

The DOJ backs Mnuchin's take on the law.

If only there were some 3rd branch of government who is responsible for determining constitutionality and scope of the laws Congress has passed and has been since the founding...

Look, the system as working as intended. Congress makes the laws, the Executive enforces them (or chooses not to via executive discretion - like DACA).
If there is a disagreement about what a law entails, the court will make that call. The system has worked this way for, literally, hundreds of years. The screaming-rage-panic from the left is just irrational hysteria.

A criminal is attempting to get away with his loot. If Donald Trump were a Black man had stolen your stereo you would have shot him. But he's white, already rich, and the vehicle for much loftier, much more profitable crimes. So you'll let him escape and do whatever he can to steal more money.

How many times has Donald had one of those, just this week?

Time is not on Donald's side. There's more than a year available to get his taxes before November, 2020. Stonewalling just delays the inevitable closer to election day.

"President Trump said Monday he was likely to hold next year's Group of Seven summit in Doral, Fla., meaning he could personally profit from one of the world's most prestigious gatherings of foreign leaders. Trump, appearing with German Chancellor Angela Merkel during a bilateral meeting at the G-7 conference, announced that Miami would be the host next year. He touted Trump National in Doral for its proximity. Aides say Trump has sought for months to hold the summit there, but many of his advisers have warned against the idea, concerned about the ethics of the president profiting from an official government event".

This is your president, AVIGDORE. He's not mine.

"The DOJ backs Mnuchin's take on the law."

Feel free to post the statute. Then tell us what the word "shall" means, and list the number of exceptions the law allows.

Just because the DOJ is corrupt, doesn't mean you have to. be.

"If there is a disagreement about what a law entails, the court will make that call."

Which is what I already pointed out. I simply mentioned the constant screwdrivers thrown in the gears, when the reading of the statute itself is very clear and unambiguous.

#107 | Posted by Danforth at 2019-08-26 10:26 AM | Reply

The Trump administration is arguing the reason they won't turn the returns over is those requesting it don't want it for "a legitimate legislative purpose".

That exception does not appear in the law. And--surprise, surprise--In addition, the DOJ is playing Humpty Dumpty with the definition of "shall".
