US supermarket chain Walmart and Tesla are working to solve the issues which allegedly caused solar panel fires in seven of its stores, Reuters reports. It follows a lawsuit launched by the retailer, alleging "widespread negligence" when the panels were installed on roofs.

Maybe they should send JTremain to fix the problem. I hear he installs solar panels for free.

I hear he installs solar panels for free.

It was a moment of weakness.

I got over it.

So it's Obama's fault that one type of solar panel has issues because of a connector?

Why not blame Ben Franklin for helping to discover electricity?

You're a joke.

No wonder the Chinese are killing us in the solar industry now...

Oh my god! Obama's team wanted to try and save the future and move us to solar power? Scandal! Corruption!
Evil incarnate!

Trump putting fossil fuel lobbyists in charge of the environment? Sheep4trump is totally cool with it.

Are you really trying if you setup a system with no chance of success using other peoples money?

In actual Tesla news, Q3 continues to look abysmal. E-Tron sales in many places have surpassed S & X sales combined. Such a waste not refreshing those models. Fallout from Solar City continues, New York's $750 million investment in that plant is becoming an increasingly large political liability as the story reframes itself to blatant crony capitalism.

New design chief in at Infiniti to tackle dwindling sales. Ford is re-tooling in Chicago for the 6th generation Explorer which will sell really well in the current market. VW's rumor buy into Tesla has been said is false (Musk & German Auto Unions hate each other).

Solar Power is Increasing Pollution in North Carolina, According to Utility Data

Now, it appears there is hard data clearly demonstrating that solar power is contributing to higher levels of air pollution in North Carolina, which has the second-most solar of any state in the country.

This probably sounds counter-intuitive at first, but after further investigation in makes sense. Solar power ramps up and down based on the sun, as a result, natural gas plants need to ramp their output up and down to make sure the grid isn't overloaded.

This constant ramping increases the amount of pollution emitted by the natural gas plants to a level that is at least 44 percent higher than if there were no solar panels on the grid at all and the natural gas plant was simply allowed to run at a steady pace.

"After committing $2 billion in tax credits, and more than $1 billion in electricity overpayments for solar power, we now learn from Duke that nitrogen oxides have actually increased, and that CO2 may be headed in the wrong direction," said Donald van der Vaart, former secretary of the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality and State Energy Policy Advisor in the McCrory administration.

"This should shock everyone responsible for North Carolina's air quality, and the nation's energy policy," van der Vaart said.

From #15: "North Carolina's interpretation of that law gave incentives to solar operators and the state has issued 60% of the nation's contracts under that federal mandate."

^
North Carolina decided to game the system, just like they gamed their elections.

"It's great for the Wall Street financiers, and those in it to make a fast buck while the sun shines, but it's leaving us with an increasingly unstable grid and externalities such as more pollution," Kish said. "The regulators have to remember that their job is to make sure that quick buck artists don't pick the pockets of consumers and leave them with a weaker, less resilient grid."

^
Funny part is, that quote is from "Dan Kish, distinguished senior fellow at the Institute for Energy Research."

And the Institute for Energy Research? "The IER is the successor organization to the Institute for Humane Studies of Texas, an advocacy group established in 1984 by billionaire businessman and political donor Charles Koch." en.wikipedia.org

Funny you mention that...

The coal plants were approved at the local level as the central government tried to shut down many.
www.bbc.com

That said, China also approved subsidies for another 22.8 gigawatts of solar.
cleantechnica.com

In fact, solar in many places in China is cheaper than coal.
www.cnn.com

Reality is China is struggling to keep up with energy demands. Central government is pushing out solar. Localities with less buying power are rolling out coal as well. But they are planning to export most of the new coal mine output to foreign countries to beef up exports while it still has some worth.
