Hands down, Benny Hill is the greatest Brit ever.

Just saying his name out loud produces smiles and laughs.

Many people say he was the first casualty of political correctness.

I'm the most immature person on the planet -- fart jokes, Gilligan's Island, Benny Hill, Beavis & -------- all make me laugh out loud.

What comedy makes you laugh out loud?

I don't know why you're so afraid to answer my question.

I've already pointed out that many people think Benny Hill was the first casualty of PC run amok ...

Do you think comedic entertainment will ever return to where it was before, to not being afraid to laugh at T & A oriented jokes?

On TV? I doubt it.

Internet will be the place for it, IMO.

#5 PINCH, I was lucky enough to see Norm MacDonald perform about a week before the attacks on him by the PC crowd for defending (to an extent) Louis CK and Roseanne Barr. He has since said that he has had to "tame" his show:

I loved his show when I was a kid. I've recently watched a few clips on Youtube. Still funny.

Surprised there hasn't been some type of random politically correct or racist allegation to his type of humor, because it seems like almost everything from the mid-20th century is somehow hurtful to 2019 wokepeople

When Benny Hill found a gag involving women excessively crude he dressed in Drag and had himself be the recipient of the joke.

When asked what he was like when the cameras weren't rolling all the Hill's angels agreed that he kept his hands to himself.

I always liked the Brit coms, but Benny Hill never did much for me. Neither did another popular one, Mr. Bean (Rowan Atkinson, I think his name is)

Howver, Give me an overdose of Fawlty Towers (watery owls, flowery -----, etc.) any day.

What Happened to Benny Hill ?

Hill's health declined in the late 1980s. After a mild heart attack on 24 February 1992, doctors told him he needed to lose weight and recommended a heart bypass. He declined, and a week later was found to have kidney failure.

He died at the age of 68 on 20 April; on 22 April, after several days of unanswered telephone calls he was found dead in his armchair in front of the television. The cause of death was recorded as coronary thrombosis.

Hill's body was buried at Hollybrook Cemetery near his birthplace in Southampton on 26 April 1992.

During the night of 4 October 1992, following speculation in the media that Hill had been buried with a large amount of gold and jewellery, grave robbers excavated the grave at Hollybrook Cemetery and broke open its coffin, the open grave's condition being found by a passer-by the following morning.

After a police examination of the scene, the coffin was reclosed and the grave filled back in by cemetery workers, and as a security measure, a 1-foot-thick concrete slab was placed over it.

Pass it around.

Nope... but woke folks have been ruining comedy since the 2010s. Dave Chappelle wouldn't be able to run his old show in the current cultural climate.

Mr. Hill received numerous awards, had a good paycheck and was popular on British TV for more than a decade. He died sick and alone in an unfurnished room in front of a TV. His many awards piled haphazardly on the floor or stuffed into closets. I think this circumstance shows what was important to him. It wasn't recognition, it wasn't fame, it wasn't wealth, it was his work. I've watched a lot of men die soon after they retire.

I agree -- but, what would change that situation is advertising.

If the major media networks could sell advertising to the demographic that liked the humor of Benny Hill, those types of shows would be back on the TV airwaves in a heartbeat.

CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX = money matters most ~

Anyone remember or a fan of Irish comedian Dave Allen? He had a lot of bawdy and religious comedy. Very funny!

I just think the hassle from the folks who have no sense of humor and/or no tolerance for others with an actual sense of humor would keep the major networks out of it.

more obscure cable channels and the internet is going to be the only place for it.

When I created the thread, the thread link was to the you-tube video.

When Rcade moved the thread to the front page, he, as his right as the owner and editor of his website, changed it.

Remember when Eddie Murphy responded to Bill Cosby back in the 80s when Cosby complained about Murphy cussing so much?

Bennie Hills low brow humor is straight out of the old burlesque skits. Pretty girls used as a prop for a comic. Reminds me of a line from the old Sonny and Cher show, Char and another woman speaking, "Do you ever want your husband to stop treating you like a sexual object?" Cher replies "God, I hope not!" Come on, sex is funny. It always has been. If you are offended, don't watch or better yet, grow some thicker skin. Real life does not provide a safe space.

Bennie Hill's show was a bit like a sexualized version of The Three Stooges in that it was lowbrow humor.

It was also hilarious, just like the Stooges.

#36 | Posted by JeffJ at 2019-08-28 01:00 PM | Reply | Newsworthy 1

I measure Beny Hill as kind of like a UK version of Three Stooges comedy . An acquired taste or something.... similar ... woob woob woob... nyuk nyuk.... shudders.

Just kidding I do appreciate both in some arcaine corner of my thinking...

As far as all the boohoo about peecee goes... in a near future world of 9 billion and denser population centers it could be prudent to demonstrate a change in self expression... much the same as Japan does in order to maintain order and domestic peace...

Boomers need to get over themselves about how it was in the "good old days" when you could say what every you wanted and no one got al blah blah blah

maybe that little "freedom" is no longer relevant... you know like humanity didn't start out wearing clothes... and now we do... its not gonna kill ya.

#37 | Posted by RightisTrite Your exposure to Asian culture is a little slanted. Japanese women are commonly groped on subways, there are active sexual undergrounds of every taste, treat women as subordinates, and I can't understand their humor, a lot is lost in translation. Heavy density in population does not curtail sexual humor, nor being offensive. Bad taste is universal.
