Yesterday at work I made a joke to a Republican co[-worker about Trump saying that we should nuke the hurricane, he instantly went into defensive mode saying "just provide one credible source...." predictably. I laughed right in his face and told him I could have predicted his exact reaction, his exact repitition of the Fox News talking point but he could not see the humor in it. Don't say anything about their hero, they are thin skinned about everything to do with Dotard. It's hilarious!

That's interesting because just the other day Neil Cavuto listed a series of destructive lies Trump has told.

It's all strategy. Trump doesn't want anyone to know what he thinks or plans. He said at the beginning of his campaign that he wasn't going to telegraph his moves. Does he owe us an explanation of his process? No. Is it aggravating? Yes, but it's his management style. It has served him well. He said as much a few days ago. He's playing the press like a fiddle.

Cool. So now we have less people in small states "dominating" the people who live in California instead. Since we'ee all Americans, explain why that makes any sense.

If Trump won the popular vote, but Hillary won the presidency through the electoral college, I guarantee we would not be seeing all th whining we've seen about the EC the last two years, including on this thread.

Get over it. It may work to the Dem's advantage one day. Of course if it does, you won''t be whining about Wyoming and Iowa having more power per capita than California or Texas, would you?

Be honest when you answer

The thinking at the time the Constitution was written was to give weight to states rights.
Similarly, originally, senators were chosen by state legislature, not the voters.

You must be against affirmative action laws which protect the minority from the majority, just as the electoral college does.

#34 | Posted by goatman at 2019-08-31 10:58 PM | Reply

Hate crime laws also protect the minority from the majority. Are you against those, Joe?

I'm talking about electoral systems, not legislation that is a reaction to centuries of institutional racism. But you knew that.

#36 | Posted by JOE at 2019-08-31 11:01 PM | Reply

Hate crime laws protect entire communities from being terrorized by one person or one group of assailants. You have no idea what you're talking about. Which is very common for you.

#32 Why is that preferable over protecting the majority from the minority?
#33 | POSTED BY JOE

Either way, it's winner take all. So maybe it boils down to: If you are in the majority, you want majority rule. If you are in the minority, you want minority rule.

If I had a choice, I would say the hell with both. Nobody rules.

#38 | Posted by Ray at 2019-08-31 11:03 PM | Reply

#38 That's not an answer to why "protecting the minority from the majority," which was your justification, is preferable to the converse. If you're backing off that being a justification then you're back to not having offered a justification.

Ad hominem is so childish and says a whole lot more about your emotional insecurity and immaturity than it does me. Learn this.

Actually hate crime laws do not protect a community. It protects a minority (gays, blacks) from attacks from someone who hates them.

And again; are you against affirmative action which protects minorities? Try to answer as an adult would, not like a petulant sixth grader. You are more likely to be taken seriously.

I gave you the Founder's justification. You wanted my justification. Which is, there is no justification.

#42 | Posted by Ray at 2019-08-31 11:11 PM | Reply

Actually hate crime laws do not protect a community

Yes they do. Their entire design is to prevent and punish the terror influcted on particular community when an assailant attacks someone due to their being part of that community. You should read a book about hate crime laws. Or a supreme court case. Or an article. Or something. Because you have demonstrated once again that youcknow nothing about a topic.

But we aren't talking about hate crime laws or affirmative action. We're talking about the electoral college. If we aren't talking about Chicago in the Odessa thread then we aren't talking about affirmative action and hate crimes in the middle of an electoral college discussion. Your rules.

People with low self-esteem put down others becuase in their eyes it elevates themselves above others. Any psychologist will tell you that. Work on those self-esteem issues you have, Joe. A good self sense of worth will get you far in life.

Depends on how it is implemented and where.

In some places without affirmative action whites with a C average would get in before Blacks with a B average. As long as it is used to level the playing field and not tilt it in the other direction it is a useful tool. The rules have to be carefully written
