My GF had a dachsund that lost an eye to a copperhead. My nickname for him was Admiral Nelson, for obvious reasons. I just called him "The Admiral". I'm not a fan of weenie dogs, but the Admiral was cool.

Sadly, one day he was harassing the hens in the hen house. He did that a lot, but never harmed them. Nevertheless, the rooster snuck up on his blind side and pecked his other eye out. The poor Admiral spent his last three or four years with no eyes.

Don't mess with roosters protecting their hens!

Both sets of grandparent where farmers and one had a decent flock of chickens which included an especially agressive rooster. It pecked at my grandmother as she gathered eggs just one too may times. After taking the eggs to the house, she returned to the coop with a long, sharp knife. He was delicious.

Thing is, you have to cook the ---- out of them to make them tender. THey can only be used for a stew or soup. No way can you make fried chicken out of a mature free range rooster.
