Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Wednesday, September 04, 2019

On Wednesday, it appears the White House attempted to retroactively correct a tweet that President Trump issued over the weekend in which he warned, erroneously, that Alabama would be impacted by Hurricane Dorian. In a White House video released Wednesday, Trump displays a modified National Hurricane Center "Cone of Uncertainty" forecast, dated from 11 a.m. on August 29, indicating Alabama would in fact be impacted. The graphic appears to have been altered with a Sharpie to indicate a risk the storm would move into Alabama from Florida. "We had actually our original chart was that it was going to be hit, hitting Florida directly," Trump said as he displayed the graphic from August 29, which now includes an added appendage extending the cone into Alabama.

Dotard Displays Doctored Hurricane Map

How the everyday Trumphluffers here can show up day after day and defend this buffoon is amazing.

This is ridiculous, pathetic, childish and insulting.

Literally creating fake news.

Reports since the start have been that if someone in the White House contradicts something Trump says, or merely offers varying information, he throws a wall-eyed fit.

#3 | Posted by Zed at 2019-09-04 04:44 PM | Reply

That the Dotard will never address the question of who doctored the map suggests that whomever did it was directed to do it. One other explanation is this Dotard doctored it himself.

There is no other probable way to explain this.

Investigating how the map was counterfeited should be comically easy, if Dotard actually wanted to know. You all recall that determining who was responsible for the pranked 'Presidential Seal' with the Russian double eagle was solved quite quickly.

What's sad and pathetic is the lengths to which some of you will go to keep that fence post buried up your ass.

Unless you have evidence that this is satire (which I looked closely for), this is embarrassing.

This would be lying actually. And that lying causes people to buy extra supplies or evacuate the area.

His spokespeople say he doesn't lie. A Fox News analyst said he doesn't lie.

Stop just letting Trump get away with lying. Stop letting it be normal and being okay with it.

His counterfeit chart is about what you would expect from a slow 6th grader, who changes his report card grade from an "F" to a "B" with a different colored pen than all the other grades on the report card.

The cause of TDS is Trump. Just as the cause of most diseases are germs.

FTA:

Altering official government weather forecasts isn't just a cause for concern " it's illegal. Per 18 U.S. Code 2074, which addresses false weather reports, "Whoever knowingly issues or publishes any counterfeit weather forecast or warning of weather conditions falsely representing such forecast or warning to have been issued or published by the Weather Bureau, United States Signal Service, or other branch of the Government service, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ninety days, or both."

So for those who say this is not a big deal it kind of is. As a government official his initial tweet could have qualified as a violation of 18 U.S. Code 2074 but this new one certainly would.

Honestly I was totally willing to just blow off the first tweet, either he made a mistake or got bad info, it happens. Trump just had to not be wrong and now it has elevated to the level of ludicrousness.

So... this actually happened? I read it and thought it was an Onion article. Especially after I saw the map modified with sharpie.
Then I checked the date to make sure it was not April 1.
Like, of it is real (which I am still not convinced of), then it isn't a big deal. Except for the fact it is so sad and pathetic.
Maybe he meant it as a joke. The worst thing about this being real would be that Trump thought it would work.

Of course they will. They're deaf, dumb and blind ~ on purpose.

But let's look behind the curtain to see what motivated Trump to manufacture such an obviously false claim to begin with.

I have a feeling he was trying to give Alabama's governor, a Republican, tacit cover to apply for emergency funds which could amount to a few extra millions in their state coffers. Perhaps even to make Alabama budget look more healthy than it really is.

Unfortunately, he forgot to enjoin Gov. Ivey in his scheme so the whole thing blew up in his face.

I don't think so. I don't defend it....but it's not worth all of this.

It's worth commenting on anyone so thin skinned that they would go to such ridiculous lengths rather than just saying he misspoke. I'm not a psychologist but that inability to admit a simple error reveals something sad about his character.

and I'm not on a fence on issues as much as you believe.

My silence and/or lack of outrage doesn't reflect my lack of having a position....it reflects that I am much more choosy on issues to address than others, including you, JPW.

I didn't vote for Trump, didn't support him and clearly won't vote for him next time. I don't take up his positions and stump for them.

Occasionally I see when it's obvious that outrage takes a lot of energy and subtle mistakes like this one.....why waste time and energy on it?

Someone said it upthread.."what if Obama had done this?"

Yes, if he had said 57 states or something....we would have a lot of pearl clutching and outrage over it.

But it's comedy to me.

How can anyone not see this?

#61 | POSTED BY GOATMAN

We see it. But, as I have said before, our goal is not to "keep Trump from being happy". Why should it matter to us if Trump likes it? I don't base my happiness on someone else's lack of it.

As a conservative, I understand your confusion. Since the only purpose conservatives have at this point is "owning libs" (since they can't accomplish anything else). An unhappy liberal, for any reason, makes conservatives all happy and excited (even if the reason the liberal is unhappy is also bad for the conservative).

Now, you would have a more convincing argument (at least towards liberals - who do not revel in other's unhappiness) if you were saying that this was helping him politically.

But what sort of people would be encouraged to vote for him over this sort of behavior (sowing confusion during a major hurricane to protect his ego)? They would have to be completely callous to the lives and safety of their fellow Americans.

Oh... thats right, Republicans. I guess they probably DO think it is worthwhile to potentially have more Americans die in the hurricane in order to "own libs". Good point. Forget I said anything.

But, I am not going to cater to voters like you, who are encouraged and excited by someone's antisocial behavior. If he gets re-elected because of it, that is just because that is what this country is, that is who Republicans are. But, I can't degrade my morals to cater to ------ human beings. Unlike "conservatives", I have some self-respect.

#80 | POSTED BY EBERLY

The sharpie... no. That is just pathetic.

What IS worth coming down hard on him on is that, while people are currently EVACUATING the path of a major hurricane, he is still showing an OLD forecast (that is now completely wrong) on national television because he has to defend his ego.

You can't see where this (and this whole conversation that he insists on having) has the potential for causing confusion and for people to make wrong decisions (when it comes to preparation and/or evacuation)?

Now you may say that no one will be confused by it, but for christ's sake, people were dumb enough to elect this idiot. And regardless, he is taking airtime away from the message that NEEDS to be spread, which is ACCURATE information about the strength and path of the hurricane, and how (and which) people need to prepare for the storm or evacuate.

It started with his pouting performance at the G7, where the rest if the world leaders obviously sequestered him. Then there was golfing twice while supposedly monitoring the hurricane. Didn't you see the bruise on his forehead over the weekend? When Reagan started to lose his marbles his people cut way back on his appearances but Combover Quisling, America's demented weatherman was front and center, tweeting 120 times over the weekend, committing a felony by altering the weather map and worse by tweeting obviously classified satellite images of Iran. I think the world is in a wait and see footing to see if Amercan voters will right the wrongs of 2016 and restore the United States to a leadership position in the world.

I have reached the conclusion that many to the right are suffering from PTSD. Having voted for him, they truly can't believe Trump could be so incompetent. The only reason for Trump's actions must be to troll libs. Because if Trump was truly this incompetent he would be unfit for office. And it's a surprisingly effective internal logical fallacy.

Actually... what use is Trump AT ALL for conservatives. He has accomplished almost nothing. And you claim that all the racist dog whistles don't actually exist.

Is it just because he is "trying" to do stuff (even though he accomplishes nothing)? Do conservatives love him because they think he deserves a nice big participation trophy?

The only thing I see you, and other conservatives, brag on Trump about is that he pisses off liberals. So, that is MY citation. That the only "trait" in Trump that conservatives actually care about is that he pisses of liberals.

You say you disagree? Well... please explain to me what OTHER reason YOU and other conservatives have to support and defend Trump. What has he done for you? Vote in the primary. If you don't like the candidates, run yourself.

That goes for either primary.

Regardless of what Democrats do, if Trump is re-elected that is on Republicans first and foremost. They still have to confirm him first in the primary.

If Republicans decided that they wanted an actual decent human being, that might actually make a decent president, to represent them then you wouldn't have to be so prickly and defensive about your nominee (seeing as they are Trump). Regardless of what happens in the general election.

#138 | POSTED BY PHESTEROBOYLE

Yes... because the voters are ultimately responsible. If they elect a crap person to run the country then they are crap voters.

I don't have a responsibility to nominate someone that YOU like. YOU have a responsibility to nominate someone you like. Then you let it play out and the best person hopefully wins.

But if one party abrogates their responsibility to actually nominate a decent human being, then the system breaks down. And, you end up with the chance of a "Trump" getting elected. (based upon partisanship, electoral history, and a variety of other factors present in the electoral environment)

I don't see why you get so defensive. If you truly thought the Republican party did their job and nominated the best person for President (that Trump is the BEST of the Republican party), then any insults from some random person on the internet should bounce right off. Its only if you know that the insults have some truth to them that you should be getting defensive.

#142 | Posted by gtbritishskull at 2019-09-05 04:12 PM | Reply

It is interesting, though. I tell "conservatives" here that it was their "fault" that Trump got elected... and 9 times out of 10 I get the response "No... it was your fault that Trump got elected... because Hillary."

But, in the 8 years that Obama was president I never ONCE had a "conservative" tell me it was MY FAULT that Obama got elected. Do you know why? Because I would have laughed in their face and taken it as a compliment.

That is why I keep doing it. Because every time it happens it shows that the "conservatives" here KNOW that their president, that they voted for and/or continue to defend and support, is a crap person and a crap president and should NEVER have been nominated by ANY party.

Every time it pisses them off, it just encourages me to do it more. Because EVERY TIME they say "Trump is because of Hillary" they are implicitly admitting that I am right, and that Trump is their "fault", and that they know it says something very wrong about "conservatives" and the Republican party that he got the nomination.

Its just like Goat keeps saying... Dance for me little puppets, dance. :)

If I had not voted for Hillary Trump would still be President.

If nobody voted for Hillary Trump would still be President (there was not another choice, don't pretend Jill Stein was a viable candidate)

The only people whose votes elected Donald Trump are the people who voted for Donald Trump. If less of them had voted for Donald Trump he might not have been elected but there is nothing Hillary voters could have done differently that would have changed the result

I bet you're thinking, with all the *cough great dem candidates we have, there is no way Trump will get relected. But if he does, we'll just insult the voters.

#138 | POSTED BY PHESTEROBOYLE

Then you'd be wrong. I've predicted on multiple threads and gotten into arguments in those same threads that the Dems will mess it up in 2020 and give Trump another 4 years.

But I'll still insult the voters. Why? Because anybody that still supports Trump is an idiot who shouldn't be allowed to vote by virtue of a lack of mental congnition.

#145 | Posted by jpw at 2019-09-05 04:46 PM | Reply

Yes... because the voters are ultimately responsible. If they elect a crap person to run the country then they are crap voters.

It amazes me how many people don't see this.

It's also telling how many "c-c-conservatives" don't seem to want to own the fact that they elected Trump. They're so caught up in Hillary still even THAT is her fault.

There were good people on both sides.

They truly believe that, within the crowd of neo-nazis and supporters of monuments to racism, there were good people.

Then, they'll tell you that Nazism deserves a platform in the public square, since if Nazism is wrong, it ought not to be able to thrive in the open marketplace of ideas.

As though the ideas of Nazism aren't categorically incompatible with democracy and freedom; or even if they are, if democracy and freedom can't defend themselves from Nazism, they deserve to be brushed under the Nazi boot.

Because there are good people on both sides.

Is this really the point?

The fact is that the NWS felt it necessary to correct Trump's error concerning Alabama.

Maybe they are all democrats and were just playing politics, or maybe they feared that Trump's statement could cause panic or confusion in enough Alabama citizen's to put an unnecessary strain on their resources at a time when they were correctly focused on Dorian's impact elsewhere. The reaction of the NWS suggests to me that they felt that there were potential real consequences of Trump's error that needed to be avoided.

And instead of simply correcting his misstatement, Trump redraws the official map in just about the most stupid way possible and some of you are OK with this. Really?
