The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration on Friday disavowed a tweet from the National Weather Service's Birmingham, Alabama, office that had contradicted President Donald Trump's false assertion that Hurricane Dorian was likely to hit the state. In a statement attributed to an unnamed NOAA spokesperson, the agency said Trump had been given information from August 28 until Monday that Dorian could impact Alabama.

So, Trump was right. You owe Goatman an apology, JPW.

It's an unnamed spokesman referencing projections showing tropical storm wind probabilities of 10% in eastern Alabama.

So no, Trump wasn't right and just when you thought this debacle couldn't get any more pathetic they likely force some poor sod at the media desk to issue a favorable statement so manchild Trump can sleep without a glass of warm milk to calm him.

This is a story about how petty the Trump hate has become.

They're going to prove Trump wrong at any cost over a throw-away comment.

You've stooped, JPW. to the lowest low of #TDS

Trump, the malignant narcissist, can't admit he is wrong about anything. If he hadn't made a mountain out of his mole hill comment, no one would be talking about it today. No one. But, n-o-o-o-o, his fragile narcissistic ego won't allow him to let the topic go. How many tweets has he done on the subject? He's a man obsessed with minutia. The President of the United States, the one with little hands, has too much unstructured, free time on them.

No kidding. Anyone watching CNN's climate hysteria townhall knows that. Those cultists did everything short of sticking needles into voodoo dolls for any opponent of the New Green Scheme.

That a couple random cones showed it getting windy in Alabama? Sorry, that still doesn't make Trump's tweet any less stupid.

NOAA staff warned in Sept. 1 directive against contradicting Trump

Nearly a week before the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration publicly backed President Trump over its own scientists, a top NOAA official warned its staff against contradicting the president.

In an agencywide directive sent Sept. 1 to National Weather Service personnel, hours after Trump asserted, with no evidence, that Alabama "would most likely be hit (much) harder than anticipated," staff was told to "only stick with official National Hurricane Center forecasts if questions arise from some national level social media posts which hit the news this afternoon."

They were also told not to "provide any opinion," according to a copy of the email obtained by The Washington Post.

A NOAA meteorologist who spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of retribution said the note, understood internally to be referring to Trump, came after the National Weather Service office in Birmingham contradicted Trump by tweeting Alabama would "NOT see any impacts from the hurricane."

The Birmingham office sent the tweet after receiving a flurry of phone calls from concerned residents following Trump's message.

The agency sent a similar message warning scientists and meteorologists not to speak out on Sept. 4, after Trump showed a hurricane map from Aug. 29 modified with a hand-drawn, half-circle in black Sharpie around Alabama.

If you know anything about how the National Hurricane Centre provides information on a given storm, you would know that they provide a variety of graphics, the main one being the forecast cone for the storm centre. One of the secondary graphics shows the tropical storm windspeed probabilities.

The first graphic does not include any probability percentages - as I understand it, anywhere within the cone could be a possible track for the storm, with the shown track being the model consensus. The second graphic provides probabilities of a given area being hit by storm force winds, designated by colored bands.

If the east side of Alabama was at one time shown to have a 10% probability of being hit by storm force winds ( but not hurricane strength winds ), this would have been displayed on the second graphic. Trump's doctored map shows the first graphic so even scrambling to explain Trump's comment, they cannot doctor the correct map. I find the doctored graphic amusing, but I find the incompetence of his staff scary.

NOAA tweeted that Trump was stuck on stupid and no one from the NOAA had called POTUS on Alabama. Apparently the NOAA doesn't care two flips in telling the world Trump is a loser. If Trump says something, normal people know better than to follow him blindly.

I'm well aware.

My comment based on the latter, the color shaded forecast map for tropical storm force winds within 72 or 120 hours (don't remember which).

The very maps the NOAA "spokesman" pointed to in their justification for soothing Trump's fragile ego.

My apologies.

#21 | Posted by jpw at 2019-09-08 11:00 AM | Reply

Jesus Christ. Ya'll are still trying to defend him over this?

Trump sent out a tweet saying that the Hurricane would hit Alabama. The NWS sent out a tweet that CORRECTLY stated that it was NOT going to hit Alabama (doing their job to clear up any confusion).

What about that needs an apology?

Now some talking heads might have made fun of Trump over the situation. And Trump being a Republican (pronounced snow-flake) had to get on twitter and whine about how there was a weather map, three days outdated, which showed the storm POSSIBLY hitting Alabama.

And all the Republicans get their panties in a wad because they think this is a HUGE example of TDS or media bias or some such paranoid crap.

When, in reality, it is just an example of Republicans being childish little snowflakes who can't stand someone saying something bad about them.

The point this story makes really transcends weather and Trumps ridiculous Sharpie altered map. It is about his ego, and his unwillingness to ever admit he made a mistake and then the sychophantic supporters who will try their idiotic best to back up his lies. Yes, Hitler did have sychophantic supporters who would back up anything he said but Hitler could openly have you murdered with a bullet to your head. Trump does not have that power (yet) so why are his supporters sacrificing their reputations to back up such an obvious liar? That is the real question and I suspect that the rewards they expect are far greater than what the rest of us do.
Obviously, his inner circle thinks that there is more for them than the rest of us realize.

#23 No, the point of this story is how rediculous TDS is and how because you losers got nothing from Russia gate that you will cling onto anything as stupid as this. It was actually on the weather channel that Alabama could get hit early on, what is the big deal? You haters want Trump to apologize for saying the same? How about all you haters and the dopes on MSNBC and CNN apologize for causing this country to spend over 40 million and 3 years on a hoax that tore this country apart because you lost an election with a terrible candidate?

"It was actually on the weather channel that Alabama could get hit early on"

And Alabama had been removed from danger three days prior. There is no excuse for Trump's mistake... just a lot of excuses.

And turd polishing, of course.

"How about all you haters and the dopes on MSNBC and CNN apologize for causing this country to spend over 40 million"

Yeah, riiiiiight. Three things about that:
1. Mueller's budget was $10.4 million for each of his two years.
2. Mueller's investigations brought in over $15 million to the Treasury, via forfeitures from folks like Manafort.
3. Team Trump had told over 100 lies about contacts with Russia.

Why are you willing to accept a President telling you no one from his campaign had any contact with Russians when he knew he was lying?

#26 | Posted by Danforth at 2019-09-09 09:56 AM | Reply | Newsworthy 1

No, the point of this story is how rediculous TDS is

What's ridiculous is the conduct you idiots will rationalize away with a feeble "TDS" chirp.

#27 | Posted by jpw at 2019-09-09 10:00 AM | Reply

The President of the United States changed a map with a marker to accommodate his misstatement, and his sycophants claim that anyone talking about this has "TDS."

Here's a hint morons: You don't need to be "deranged" about Trump to be disgusted and embarrassed by virtually everything he does. You just need to have a brain. Quite a high bar for many of you.

You really do love Trump.

You will believe ANYTHING to support him.

But hey, it's nice to see you finally believing an unnamed source...even if its after the administration pressured them and the NOAA said specifically Trump was wrong and not a single forecast posted ever said the President was right and the President tweeted after the forecasts had been updated to show the hurricane moving north instead and the President had to draw on a map with a sharpie because no forecast existed saying he was right. But don't let facts get in the way of your stupidity.

NOAA Will Investigate Why Agency Supported Trump's False Dorian Claims

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's chief scientist will investigate whether the agency's response to Donald Trump's misleading tweets about Hurricane Dorian violated NOAA policy, according to an email obtained by the Washington Post.

Who went to jail as a result of Russia collusion or what Mueller was investigating? Manafort was for crimes years ago, Flynn hasn't gone to jail but if he does it was for lying (actually it will show that he was entrapped) Wait till Horowitz's investigation comes out, RussiaGate will be re-newed and it won't be about Trump.
