Thousands of demonstrators in Hong Kong urged President Donald Trump to "liberate" the semiautonomous Chinese territory during a peaceful march to the U.S. Consulate on Sunday, but violence broke out later in the business and retail district as police fired tear gas after protesters vandalized subway stations, set fires and blocked traffic.

Of course China is not going to let go of Hong Kong without a fight. And if China has to fight for Hong Kong, it would not surprise me a bit to see a one two punch and see them move on to Taiwain. Tie up two messy loose ends in one blow and get it over with.

Both moves would be stupid. Both Hong Kong and Taiwan are profit centers. Cut off your nose to spite your face sort of thing. China would be best served by letting both places operate as they have for a very long time. Taiwanese and Hong Kong freedom doesn't seem to be spreading to China so why disturb it when so many benefits can be gained from both?

PRC China does not currently profit from Taiwan. Taiwan is run by a separate government (Republic of China). Shanghai currently has a higher GDP than Hong Kong, and they have more direct control over that. The Chinese know how to profit. The "Communist" party there has been essentially capitalist since the 1980s.

Better dead than red. These protesters are serious and I hope they don't get the gilets jaunes treatment in which they are ignored after the initial reportage.

When you start a post with "better dead than red," pretty much everything else you post is just jingoistic nonsense.

Maybe if the protestors promised to pay for the wall Trump might accommodate them.

Trump is not going to stick his neck out for Hong Kong because China is a Super Power.

Sad situation any way you look at it. But with Chinese expansionism so high right now and so many people in America hating their own country BECAUSE of their expansionist history, logic would dictate that we start blocking China as much as possible to avoid the same problem America created when we did it.

Just curious, given your statement, what do you think the overall protests are about?

And history would dictate it's like teaching sex to Dennis Hof after losing your virginity.

Asking the United States to "fight the good fight" is a horrible mistake. We are run by criminals. Send the ------- weapons contractors to Hong Kong instead of selling elite technologies to the murderous Saudi.

Trump wont do anything because he is a coward, any fight would hurt his Chinese suppliers and the US would lose the fight.

Gee, talk about a typical and stupid knee jerk response.

You know as well as I do that if the US took action, the TDS crowd would be decrying it. And if Trump was worried about hurting his "Chninese suppliers" (WTF is that, anyway? The newest invention of the TDS bunch?) he would not have the tariffs which are clearly hurting the Chinese.

Get a grip.

Get a clue.

Everything I said in 19 is true.

Claiming TDS doesnt change that.

Trump's Chinese suppliers are the companies that make his heavily marked up and cheaply made merchandise.

Trump defender syndrome seems to be the cause of your knee jerk excuses for Trumps failings.
