I got mine through my healthcare plan, but yeah, it wasn't fun.
But I've gotta tell ya, after watching my wife birth 2 nine pound boys the discomfort I experienced was the least I could do.
In a little over a week we are heading "up north" to celebrate our 23rd anniversary for a 5-day weekend. Thankfully, she just finished her monthly bleeding so the timing will be good for a really enjoyable weekend.
Here's the thing though - My parents are up there right now and after giving it consideration I asked my dad to leave the boat in the water. It is now my responsibility to get it across Lake Charlevoix (14 miles long) to get it stored for the winter. The weather can be really nasty at the end of September at the 45th parallel. It can also be beautiful. This is a crapshoot in terms of the weather. But, it's a 5-day weekend and I'm just hoping that we can get at least one enjoyable ride on and have the weather be decent enough that I can get it across the lake without fearing for my life like I did several years ago. 48 degrees, sleet, 40 MPH winds and white caps the entire way. I was in the boat by myself (my wife drove to the other end of the lake to pick me up) and I felt like Gilligan on the SS Minnow. Doing about 10 knots and the waves were huge. It's a 23.5" open bow Sea Ray with a 5.7 Mercruiser putting out 270 HP, so it's a stout boat but damn! Cresting those waves and then slamming into the next wave only to have the splash fly the water into the air and the Cat - 0.5 winds grab the spray and slam it into my face, over and over again. Towards the latter part I began getting concerned about the structural integrity of the boat. I'm not exaggerating in the slightest. It really was that bad and it took every ounce of my boating knowledge and experience to make that trek.
The thing is, it rained that entire weekend. I kept procrastinating taking the boat across the lake because I didn't want to do it in the rain. The extreme wind was a late development and wasn't on any of the advanced forecasts.
