If you're trying to convince people you can cut taxes, increase spending, and balance the budget you don't want an educated electorate. Same if you're trying to deny global warming and want them to believe wind turbines cause cancer.

Sen. Kerry Roberts of Springfield called for eliminating higher education while speaking about attending a recent abortion legislative hearing on his conservative radio talk show

This guy is anti education and anti abortion, which is a conservative twofer.

On top of all that, he has his own talk hate radio show.

Slashing federal funding to the corrupt, bloated, privileged, sjw academic swamp is a good idea. Use the money for free vocational and trade schools and apprenticeship programs. A lot of students don't belong in 4 year schools. Make funding contingent on universities reducing their bureaucracy to teacher ratio.

Make loans and grants available to majors that are actually in demand, like STEM. The taxpayers shouldn't be paying for Snowflake Theory majors, Anti-American studies, Hate
Whitey studies, Feminist Dance Therapy, and other pseudo-disciplines.

I didn't finish and I'm doing ok I know plenty who didn't go and are doing better. If you are willing "keep your nose to the grindstone and out of the pills" you can do pretty well with no college as long as you learn SOMETHING. You can learn all kinds of skills without college but you have to learn.

That said part of the reason I work my ass off is to pay for my kids to be able to go to college I want them to do better than me and college, while not required, is a huge help in that department.

Poll: 73 Percent of Republican Students Have Hidden Their Politics over Fears about Grades

#49 | Posted by JeffJ at 2019-09-11 11:26 AM | Reply

I've posted hundreds of articles about the rot in "higher" education--actually, indoctrination. Here's one I came across today.

"Just when we thought colleges could not spout loonier ideas, we have a new one from American University. They hired a professor to teach other professors to grade students based on their "labor" rather than their writing ability. The professor that American University hired to teach that nonsense is Asao B. Inoue, who is a professor at the University of Washington in Tacoma in interdisciplinary arts and sciences. He is also the director of the university's writing center. Inoue believes that a person's writing ability should not be assessed, in order to promote "anti-racist" objectives. Inoue taught American University's faculty members that their previous practices of grading writing promoted white language supremacy. Inoue thinks that students should be graded on the effort they put into a project."

It's the studies that don't sustain life as the only resource to secure financial survival that should not be financed nor debt forgiven.

College is supposed to 'round you out'. But, if your major has no capacity to keep you from needing life support, the public should not be responsible for you supporting your choice and then supporting your bad choice's consequence.

Because state funding has been slashed and the cost has been transferred to tuition.

Despite inflation only 5 states increased spending on higher education.

The average state spent $1,502 (16 percent) less per student in 2018 than in 2008.

Per-student funding in nine states fell by more than 30 percent over this period: Alabama, Arizona, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina.
