Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Former Attorney General Eric Holder is defending the Obama administration against criticism from the left about its deportation efforts while warning Democratic presidential hopefuls that the U.S. needs borders. "The emphasis there was on people who had criminal records, people who posed a danger, a public safety risk," Holder, who served under former President Obama, said of the previous administration's policy in a CNN interview released Saturday. "Democrats have to understand that ... borders mean something," he added.

... You sure about that Eric? ...

I'd say that fmr AG Holder is more sure of what he says than the current occupant of the Oval Office is about what he says..

That aside, I think fmr AG Holder is correct.

...Holder expressed disagreement with a proposal embraced by some Democratic presidential candidates to make illegally entering the U.S. a civil offense rather than a criminal offense.

"No, I don't think that's right," he said. "The law that is on the books has been there for about 100 years or so."

"It might send the wrong signal. But it would certainly take a tool away from the Justice Department that it might to use," Holder added.

"It is up to, I think, the Justice Department to use its discretion in an appropriate way, and I don't think this administration's Justice Department is doing that."...

Like Obamacare, the current system regarding the border is not perfect. But the solution is not to throw it away and put something worse in its place.

Illegal entry should remain a criminal offense.

Reducing it to a civil offense is, as fmr AG Holder says, sending the wrong signal.

Instead, let's fix the problems that are in the current system. They've been well documented.

Indeed, back in June 2018 the Republican Congress went a long way towards fixing the system, even to the point of implementing Pres Trump's Four Pillars in their White House driven legislation. Yet Pres Trump said he wouldn't sign it.

The fact that he has to say that just proves the point. The Democrats don't give a damn about enforcing borders and immigration law.

Holder isn't woke enough for today's dems. He's standing still while the Left races right past him and pushes their borderless world fantasy on the Democrat party.

If it doesn't apply to employers then you are kidding yourself if you think poor people aren't going to figure out how to get to the jobs.

I said I agreed with fmr AG Holder, and gave reasons why I hold that opinion.

I'm not sure why you call substantiating my opinion "deflection."

What does anything AM says have to do with anything?

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) on Saturday told progressive Latino group Mijente that if elected president, he would have a complete moratorium on the deportation of illegal aliens.

The Sanders who denounced open borders in 2016 has completely caved-in to the open borders crowd. The lust for power will do that.
