Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Twice in the last month, the President of the United States has claimed that the Pentagon has weapons even more powerful than nuclear weapons, with the ability to easily kill millions. President Donald Trump made the claim during remarks to commemorate the 18th anniversary of the September 11th attacks in New York, Washington, and Pennsylvania. Trump told an audience: "The last four days, we have hit our enemy harder than they have ever been hit before, and that will continue," Trump said, apparently referring to the Afghanistan war and drawing applause from the crowd. "And if for any reason they come back to our country, we will go wherever they are and use power the likes of which the United States has never used before " and I'm not even talking about nuclear power. They will never have seen anything like what will happen to them."

"Less than a month ago, on August 20, Trump claimed that the U.S. military could kill 10 million people in Afghanistan within a week. "This is not using nuclear [weapons]," he said.

So what could he be talking about, then?"

We have something more powerful than nukes and we can kill 10 million people a week?

He probably just watched Star Wars A New Hope and changed the channel after watching Alderon get blowed up.

That's actually what it sounds like. Do you think such a system is currently deployed and operational?

#12 | Posted by Karabekian at 2019-09-17 10:28 AM | Reply

#12 No, at least not on a large scale. That wouldn't be operationally feasible until the raw materials could be harvested in space.

Sometimes, when I see the US lagging in some key area, I wonder if the underlying reason is because we already have something better.

#13 I've read that what is publicly acknowledged is 30 years behind what we actually have, in terms of military technology.

#14 | Posted by Karabekian at 2019-09-17 12:56 PM | Reply

#14 That's possible, I suppose. The problem is that if we suddenly needed it, very few would know how or when to use it. Give a caveman a rifle and he'll use it as a club.

If there was a space weapon system, everybody could see it with a telescope.

More likely it's a massive cyberwarfare attack.

#16 Perhaps a space weapon system is disguised as something else? Maybe the X-37B has something hidden within, for instance.

#17 | Posted by Karabekian at 2019-09-18 10:14 AM | Reply

Doesn't make sense. The X-37B has an 11,000 pound payload to orbit. You could put a MIRV W87 setup in it.. but that's not a new superweapon by any means. It's just an LGM-188A payload on a different rocket stack, with a much slower reentry speed that defeats the purpose of high speed ICBMs...

#18 | Posted by sitzkrieg at 2019-09-18 10:23 AM | Reply

X-37B is just a fancy spy plane for modular payloads and rapid deployment. The procurement and development process for big satellites can't keep up with the advances in electronics and imaging, obsolete before they fly, and they are incredibly expensive. The X-37B solves that by simply being a reusable satellite with modular guts. If our satellites come under attack, they will be the substitutes for comms relays, camera platforms, etc and also deploy micro-sat replacement swarms.

Or he is revealing classified information for no good reason. Someone needs to deal with the fact that our President is treasonous.

#18/19 I am fascinated by this technology, but I am a liberal arts guy, not a science guy; I wish I had paid more attention in math & science classes. Do you think we (or anybody else) has and EMP weapon of some kind in orbit?

#22 | Posted by Nixon at 2019-09-18 12:36 PM | Reply

#21 We could, I suppose. EMP is actually more effective when a relatively small nuclear weapon is used. By that same token, so could the Russians and the Chinese. Heck, we probably all have them up there. The thing about EMP is it is more effective against technologically reliant populations, like the US. Estimates of the impact of a nationwide EMP attack on the US are north of 200 million dead over the period of a few years.

That's the -------- scare tactics. Lets go with reality. EMP is only a threat is people are throwing nuclear weapons at each other. A non-nuclear EMP weapon contains only 1/10,000,000th the power of a nuclear EMP blast. These are not city destroyers or civilization ending weapons. It's something you would use precision guidance to drop into a single electrical substation and turn it off without completely destroying it.

#25 | Posted by sitzkrieg at 2019-09-18 05:59 PM | Reply

#25 but what if you didn't know who did it? What if were orbiting right now, 240 miles above the earth, waiting for a signal to detonate a 1mton blast that darkens everything for 1000 mile radius? Is it a nuclear war if you don't know who pulled the trigger?
