Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Rick Hogge says he was visiting Colorado from Texas with a group of friends who go on motorcycle trips every year. Earlier this month, the group hit the trail on Schofield Pass near Crested Butte, riding their bikes down rocky and narrow trails. "I would say it's pretty technical," Hogge said in a FaceTime interview. He had a video camera on his helmet when he flew off a cliff and into the cold water of the punch bowl below.

What a dumbass. I don't want people like this to have free healthcare.

...or insurance even.

"What a dumbass. I don't want people like this to have free healthcare."

When a person without insurance gets injured the hospitals treat them anyway. Accidents happen to everyone. He is lucky to be alive though.

That was the frustrating thing that Republicans just couldn't wrap their head around. They want this guy to be able to say "I am young and healthy, I don't need to pay for insurance", and even though if he had gotten seriously injured he would have been treated regardless of whether he had insurance. And everyone who DOES have insurance (like me and you) would be the ones ultimately footing the bill.

Whether he gets care or not was never a question in the healthcare debate. We have already decided as a society that emergent care will be treated regardless of ability to pay. What was in debate was whether he would have to buy insurance and thereby contribute financially to the care that he would ultimately need (Democrats), or whether him buying insurance would be a "choice" so that he could "choose" to leech off of the rest of society who IS responsible and pays for their healthcare by not paying for insurance now but still getting healthcare if he did get in an accident and needed it (Republicans).

Ummmmm.... Interesting.....

The ones with the loudest voices against a Democrat Free for all Medicare program are....

Democrats that are already in such a program....

Yep.... 7.6% of America already have exactly what Democrats are proposing.... Free medical care....

They are of course Vets... getting their medical care through government run medical program through the VA....

They are NOT Happy Campers.... and if the government can't run a medical program for just 7.6% of the population.... imagine how they'll do with 92.4% ........

"They are NOT Happy Campers."

Incorrect. VA recipients report higher than average satisfaction with their coverage.

Awww look a the littler blogger all huffy and puffy about what was obviously an accident.

No need for you to get any accident insurance. You will never have accident like that while blogging from your mother's house all day and all night.

I hope he went out and bought a couple lottery tickets right after that.

That was definitely his lucky day.

There should be food and drink insurance. To many people leech off the rest of society.

This insurance should be mandatory as you never know when you cant feed yourself.

Also, no food/drink if you are not proving you are applying for jobs. Every potential employer should provide written proof of job application and their decision. If you turn down work...no food for you.

Repeal the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act that Reagan put together in 1986.

Go back to when hospitals would turn away people without money. That would make people without insurance think before daredevil acts.

That's right. Reagan socialized medicine in '86.

Republicans are the sort who don't want free healthcare but do want everyone to have cheap guns and are then surprised when well armed old ladies show up at emergency rooms threatening to kill everyone if their granddaughter's life isn't saved.

Wow, is he lucky to have fallen exactly where he did; in the only pool of water deep enough to break his fall. Anywhere else along the trail and he might not have made it or been seriously injured and help that could have gotten to him a long ways away.
