China and Russia are planning to double their trade over the next five years, aided by the removal of barriers to the sale of agricultural products, including soybeans, which have been a major feature of Beijing's long-running tariff dispute with Washington.

Relations between China and Russia have been steadily warming as each has had its individual troubles with the United States, and the latest pledges appear to be a way to take advantage of that shared friction, analysts say.

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev were set to sign a joint statement on Wednesday at the end of Li's three-day trip to Russia.

After the pair met on Tuesday, Medvedev said they had agreed to boost two-way trade to US$200 billion by 2024, from US$107 billion last year.

Wait, what?

How can this be?

The usual know-it-all's here on the DR have stated several times that the Chinese are starving and ready to capitulate the mighty Trump at any moment

I guess they lied, again

I guess the "economics majors" and general know-it-all-all-the-time DR Trumped Cretins are to busy sticking their nose into other peoples business and obsessing about the gender of someone they don't know.

The rich won't go hungry and who cares about the poor. They've got billions to spare.

So yes. You're right. I'm sure the Chinese don't mind [the poor] going hungry for 5 years.

so of course, the ever banal goatface interprets that as no trade at all for 5 years

As I said, I hope the Chinese don't mind going hungry for five years until the trade agreement is implemented. If China doesn't start importing US soybeans, they will be going hungry.

But as always, your predictible knee jerk's comic relief is appreciated, big chief.

Beyond the immediate difficulties that a tariff war creates, there is the issue (as was mentioned by several at the time of the initial tariffs being implemented) that China will shop for other sources to supply their agricultural grocery list. The result is the pain of the tariffs will linger beyond the time when this tariff business all gets sorted out. The US might have an incredible produce supermarket, but it is not the only game in town.

BTW, the Russian soybean supply begins NOW. It might not double for five years, but it it ludicrous to think no Russian soybeans will be sent to China for five years!

Meanwhile, Russia is not the only game in town to supply soybeans to China either! This could end up being a very bad gambit for US farmers.

The poor do. I've been poor, both as an adult and a child in a poor family. Apparently you never have been. But trust me, the poor care if they go hungry.

That's moving the goalposts, but you are correct. It's a shame democrats pretend to.

Who woulda thought a man best known for bankruptcy would have trouble negotiating with China.

What's the most amusing about the "rights" pretense that they can starve china into submission, is the glaring fact that todays "right", who whined like their dick was broken over a grey suit and wine mustard, does not know the meaning of stoicism, let alone being capable of enduring the slightest of hardship.

Its as if they really believe despite their own incessant whining selves, they are going to out stoic the Chinese

Nothing is more emblematic the state of "conservatism" today quite like the deafening silence of all the DR know-it-all's on a topic they so recently advocated and excused in favor of.

In other words

They don't hesitate to congratulate themselves prematurely. But they sure are reluctant to return to it in the aftermath

But they still know everything. They are so sure, all the time, every time. Just check on any thread, and be sure to "re read # bla, bla, bla".

They must be billionaires with such amazing powers

You did not specify a particular person to whom your post was intended. So forgive me -- my mind reading skills have slipped, especially when trying to read such tiny, little minds.

Also, this is an open forum. If you wish to address a single person and have only him/her/them reply, use email.

Hope these things help!
