Former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said that Israeli officials "played" Donald Trump during talks, using "misinformation" to manipulate the president. He warned that a "healthy amount of skepticism" is necessary when dealing with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. "They did that with the president on a couple of occasions, to persuade him that we're the good guys, they're the bad guys,'" Tillerson said at a panel discussion Tuesday at Harvard University.

"We later exposed it to the president so he understood: You've been played,'" Tillerson added. "It bothers me that an ally that's that close and important to us would do that to us."

Tillerson did not detail specific situations when he believed the president was "played."

In "dealing with Bibi, it's always useful to carry a healthy amount of skepticism in your discussions with him," said Tillerson, who was fired by Trump via tweet last year. He described Netanyahu as "an extraordinarily skilled" politician and diplomat, but also called him "a bit Machiavellian."

Tillerson said he supported a two-state solution involving Palestinians, which Netanyahu opposes.

Never thought I'd miss Rex, but anyone willing to call Trump a "feckling moron" and not them turn around and deny it gets a couple brownie points in my book at least for having at minimum a sober vision on that particular topic.

...and not THEN turn around and deny it....

Contacts are cloudy this morning.

The actual discussion is here:

Tillerson's exit interview

...Rex Tillerson had seen and learned much in his 41-year career at ExxonMobil Corp., and some of it proved useful in his 13 months as U.S. secretary of state. But in the end, most of the thorniest challenges the former chairman of the multinational oil giant faced had more to do with his relationship with his boss, President Donald Trump, than with the complexities of geopolitics.

That was the overarching message from Tillerson who visited Harvard Tuesday for a private talk about his time as the nation's top diplomat, a probing 90-minute discussion in which he spoke fluently on issues in global hotspots from North Korea, Syria, and Iran to the negotiating styles of world leaders, including Trump.

In panel interview with Professors Nicholas Burns, who runs the Future of Diplomacy Project at Harvard Kennedy School (HKS), Robert Mnookin, faculty chair emeritus of the Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School (HLS), and James Sebenius, who heads the Harvard Negotiation Roundtable at Harvard Business School (HBS), Tillerson's daylong visit was organized by the American Secretaries of State Project, a joint initiative run by Burns, Mnookin, and Sebenius, who each lead programs on diplomacy and negotiation at all three Schools....

Quite the interesting read.

tldr: Tillerson submitted a proposal and it got shot down so now he's having a temper tantrum.

Not saying his proposal may have been the best way forward but when you deal with these types of people in a professional office, they are considered the whiners and know-it-alls that nobody wants to talk to.

Why is anyone surprized by Trumplethinsin getting played. He's spent his life sucking up to the powerful . He has invented nothing...he has created nothing new... he is not a mover and shaker...everything has been about sucking up and accommodating the wealthy.... he reminds me of Bush-hole with his sickening daddy complex.

@#5 ... they are considered the whiners and know-it-alls that nobody wants to talk to. ...

Agreed, but he is the current occupant of the Oval Office, so we have to work with what we have.

Rex Tillerson is obviously just another member of the FAKE NEWS MEDIA. Who does he work for anyway, the failing New York Times or the failing Washington Post?

*checks notes*

Well then... he's a RINO. Or virtue signaling. Or disgruntled. That's it, disgruntled.

So many bad people who are so corrupt and wrong about our Dear Leader! They need to embrace his love and smartness and stability, and attack our enemies, and support Israel, in Jesus' name. Amen.

All you have to do to play trump is to say it would look strong to do X and weak to do Y.

He's so pathologically insecure he could be manipulated by a 6th grade girl.

How is this possible when "The President" is playing five-dimensional chess?

Oh that's right - this m*therf*cka can't even play checkers.

Now, Bibi lost and on the way out. It's embarrassing. He thought he could use Trump to deliver Palestine to Israel. He knows that Evangelicals thinks Israel can do no wrong and would do anything for Israel. Bibi made some public promises and he didn't deliver. Israelis voters are not as forgiving as American voters. Bibi was kicked out on his ass.

Now he has his corruption dilemma to worry about. Oy vey!
