U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue was fielding questions at a farm show in Decatur, Ill., in late August when his boss rang his cellphone. Perdue put the call on speaker and placed it next to the microphone so the crowd could hear Donald Trump speak.

At $28 billion so far, the farm rescue is more than twice as expensive as the 2009 bailout of Detroit's Big Three automakers, which cost taxpayers $12 billion. And farmers expect the money to keep flowing: In an August survey by Purdue University and the CME Group, 58% said they anticipate another round of trade aid next year.

I don't think Trump will carry Iowa in 2020, and I think other farm states are in play.

"I'm old enough to remember when conservatives would call that socialism"

So are all the DR conservatives, except maybe GoNoles.
They just... look the other way when Trump redistributes wealth.
Professional courtesy, I suppose.

"Soshulizm" is when other people are getting the money.

These hypocritical hilljacks will always accept government bennies and will always bitch when somebody else does.

No. No. No. Trump hasn't saved anyone but Big Farm Corp. Mom and Pop farms are screwed. Rurals aren't worried about that. They're worried abt health care and their hospitals closing down. All over Western NY, hospitals are going belly up. One near me is 10 million in the red (that's a lot in Heehaw Land.), another shuttered its outpatient clinic and another hospital closed their maternity ward.

That translated to a lot of unemployed nurses going to the truck stop to turn tricks to get her 40 cats some grub.

They love Trump less and less each day.

McWife and I did a short road trip to buy apples on the other side of the lake today. It was raining steadily the entire time. There was white water in the roadside ditches, and in some places the little storm drains under driveways couldn't keep up, and yards were flooding. What got my attention, though, was the standing water in the corn fields. Nobody is driving any farm equipment in those fields for at least a couple of weeks!

The point of course, is many farmers have to borrow money to get the seeds into the ground. They have loans for those tractors, sundry farm equipment, and those ubiquitous pickups. The banks will get paid, either late or after foreclosure.

Crickets from the Conservatives.

They'll probably blame Obama or Biden somehow.
