Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

WAPO Editorial Board: What Mr. Trump does not explain is that he and his lawyer, Rudolph W. Giuliani, have sided with the bad guys in this Ukrainian struggle against corruption: the Russians, the oligarchs and the compromised officials. The false stories they tell about Joe Biden and other U.S. Democrats result from this misguided alliance.

President Trump is right about Ukraine in one respect: For many years, the country's politics have been dominated by a complex and ugly struggle over corruption. The short version is this: An underdog movement of civil society activists, journalists and liberal legislators, with the sporadic support of Western governments, has battled oligarchs " many with connections to Russia or to organized crime " and the compromised government officials who protect them. More often than not, the reformers have lost.

Mr. Giuliani has a record of doing business with Ukrainians close to Russia and to former president Viktor Yanukovych, a stooge of Russian President Vladimir Putin who, after being ousted by a popular uprising in 2014, was accused of looting millions of dollars. To obtain his concocted allegations of wrongdoing, Mr. Giuliani relied on two former Ukrainian state prosecutors, both of whom were enemies of the reform movement and were accused by Western officials of blocking anti-corruption investigations.

By demanding that the Ukraine president investigate the "corruption" of Mr. Biden and Mr. Leshchenko, Mr. Trump and Mr. Giuliani of course are trying, dishonestly, to damage a potential opponent of Mr. Trump in the 2020 presidential election. But in the process, they also are advancing the agenda of those in Ukraine who seek to defend corrupt oligarchs and block genuine reform.

And who else stands to benefit if Trump and Giuliani get their way with Ukraine?

Do the initials VP mean anything to you?

How Giuliani Is Conning The World Into Buying A False Biden-Ukraine Narrative

Lies, mischaracterizations, fibs " whatever word you have doesn't fully capture what Giuliani is selling. It's less a specific falsehood than an all-encompassing false narrative that's ready-made for news organizations to pick up, more like a redux of the Benghazi scandal than a single lie.

The media's approach to it thus far illustrates the point: outlets covering the burgeoning scandal hasten to state that there is no evidence of Biden committing any wrongdoing in Ukraine. A true statement, but one that misses the point.

There is overwhelming evidence that Giuliani and Trump are running a smear operation, abetted in part by the U.S. foreign policy apparatus. It shouldn't be hard to explain, and yet we struggle to capture it.

Giuliani weaves different misrepresentations and untruths together to tell a story about Biden abusing his office to quash an investigation into his son.

In fact, there was no investigation to quash. Biden was arguably the most influential in a cacophony of western voices calling for the prosecutor's resignation as part of the West's bid to help the former Soviet republic root out corruption.

And so the character assassination begins, as the "story" takes a finer grain look at Biden and his privileged sons dealings in China and Ukraine.

This is why I love Trump, he's the most investigated President in US history, yet the "investigations" keep turning up Democrat trash .....

See ya Biden ... hate to be ya!

Brought to you; by Elizabeth Warren with an assist from Hillary.

If there is a dimmer privileged bulb than Mackris on this planet... well, maybe Trump.

But then, siding with corrupt oligarchs and stooges is all in a day's werk for them both.

Of COURSE Combover Quisling would side with the crooked oligarchs and the corrupt pro-Russia forces in Ukraine. When I read he was holding up the money, before the phone call(s) made news, I suspected this was just ANOTHER pro-Putin tongue bath from Drumpf. Now we see it had two results, allowed Drumpf to extort the Ukrainian President and make Putin happy.

"If there is a dimmer privileged bulb than Mackris on this planet... well, maybe Trump."

This is the epitome of America. Instead of having intelligent dialogue, one side makes some claims and the other side immediately turns to name-calling and childish rhetoric. Now let's take your statement as the truth and say Mackris is dim. Since you didn't address the claim, it most likely means your avoidance of addressing the claim means you can't refute it. So, investigations keep turning up Democrat trash and Mackris is dim. Now, which issue hurts America the most? In fact, which issue hurts America at all? It's definitely not the dimness of Mackris. If Mackris were being called dim because Mackris is making outlandish claims that can't be refuted, then it would be Mackris who is hurting America. Yet, there is truth to Mackris's statement in the past couple of years. So, while you may be right in Mackris's dimness (I don't know Mackris so have no idea), you are hurting the country by your unwillingness to accept there is a problem SOLELY because you don't like that it casts your side in a negative fashion. All because you (and the millions like you) wanted to call someone a name instead of focus on the problem that could be causing our country harm.

So, thank you for letting us know about Mackris's intelligence level. Now, what do we do about the fact that we keep turning up Democrat trash...other than ignore it like Dems and the media have been?

"This is why I love Trump"

Funny, I see Biden and Trump as two sides of the same ugly coin. But whatever gets you through the night-- as long as you have enough detergent to wash your bed sheets and pajamas come morning.

Wrong by a mile. Clinton would be the most investigated. What did they get him on? Lying about marital infidelity.

Trump on the other hand - there has been plenty of wrong doing he has been openly caught in and a ton more that there is just circumstantial evidence so far. The Democrats won't move on him because he's Teflon Don to the Right and an impeachment by the House will result in nothing in the Senate.

I do agree with that statement - to an extent. I am seeing it more on the left the last couple years but the right has defined that for decades. Rhetoric is used because it works - just look at posters in this little corner of the cosmos. The right perfected "talking points"

I am really tired of the name calling and personal attacks. You can't fix stupid and name calling just makes you look bad IMHO but I also get - sometimes it's so damned frustrating it's easy to react that way.

He's Teflon Don because so far.... no witnesses, and no evidence... just a lot of name calling, and innuendo... and no proof of the supposed crimes of any kind.... If he was guilty of Anything they would have got him a long time ago...

He's being impeached only because he won.

Democrat sour grapes and nothing more... The American people see it....

The political party bringing impeachment always has a big drop in the polls afterwards...

Which is why you never impeach before an election year...

Nancy saw this... which is why she tried to drag it out until the end of next year.... and it's also why Trump has been saying things daring congress to impeach him the last few months...

Nancy saw it... but the more radical parts of the democratic party forced her... hinting she could lose her job as speaker of the house... so she said screw it... either way Trump will win the election... at least by doing it now, she'll still keep her job.
