Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Thursday, September 26, 2019

President Trump told a crowd of staff from the United States Mission to the United Nations on Thursday morning that he wants to know who provided information to a whistle-blower about his phone call with the president of Ukraine, saying that whoever did so was "close to a spy" and that "in the old days," spies were dealt with differently.

Well, actually, the whistleblower is apparently a CIA agent assigned to the WH.

The whistleblower report refers to multiple witnesses. Senior staff must be shaking in their boots, forming a circular firing squad, trying to deflect suspicion. Even the ones who sourced the information probably won't know who the other leakers are.

Yes, saying that the whistleblower is "close to a spy" and that "in the old days, spies were dealt with differently" is a thinly veiled threat on the whistleblower's life.

When and if the identity of the so-called 'whistleblower' becomes public, his/her life could be in serious jeopardy since there are enough heavily armed, nut-job, die-hard Trump supporters out there who would see it as a patriotic act to take-out said 'whistleblower', and anyone else that Trump might imply aided and abetted this person, some of whom may actually be members of the White House staff.

Is this witness tampering?

"Whoever knowingly uses intimidation...with intent to-

(1) influence, delay, or prevent the testimony of another person in an official proceeding;
(2) cause or induce any person to withhold testimony; or
(3) hinder, delay, or prevent the communication to a law enforcement officer or judge of the United States of information regarding the commission or possible commission of a federal offense;

shall be fined...or imprisoned for 20 years, or both.

Pertinent questions:
Is a whistleblower complaint an "official proceeding?"
If not, is the pending impeachment inquiry an official proceeding to which this complaint might attach?
Was Trump's statement intended to influence or prevent the testimony of the whistleblower?

The last question is the most critical and is what would likely get bogged down in minutae.

So we can protect ourselves from a tyrannical government.

Good for you. The following suggests Trump desperately needs your support:

According to the Morning Consult, there has been a 13 point swing in favor of impeachment in just a matter of days. The new poll, taken from Sept. 24-26, shows the public in a 43-43 deadlock on the question of whether Congress should begin impeachment proceedings to remove Trump from office. The same poll, conducted from Sept. 20-22, shows 36 in favor of beginning impeachment proceedings, with 49 percent opposed " a massive swing in such a short period of time.

Democrats, Independents and " perhaps surprisingly " Republicans all showed an increase in impeachment support, according to the Morning Consult. Seventy-nine percent of Democrats now favor Trump impeachment, up from 66 a few days ago, with Independent support jumping to 39 from 33, and the Republican number increasing from 5 to 10.

A separate poll, conducted by PBS NewsHour, NPR and Marist, shows that 49 percent of Americans believe an impeachment inquiry should be launched, with 46 percent opposing.

A good question to ask is why are so many FBI/CIA glow bea ers left wing, or why do they protect Democrats and go after guys like Manafort. Manafort is not squeaky clean either, but he is in jail while Biden, Clintons etc are all laughing all the way to the bank. It has to be money, they have to bribe these glowies with child sex like Epstein, they have to have dirt or something on these guys. Some of them no doubt work for Russia and China and god knows who else. That's how bad our agencies are, we have foreign spies in them. The real story they don't want you to know is why they are so god damn evil and corrupt. There is deep state nonsense and globalist powers in control of all these agents. They do their bidding. Most military and law enforcement guys who join the agencies are usually right leaning. What happens to them? Think of the network of traitors that people like Bush, Clinton, Bush, Obama have been putting in place there for years and years. The whole thing is an evil organization at this point.

I think its funny how right wingers are able to convince themselves that speculating that "Hillary would do it too" absolves Trump of things he has actually done.

Both sides do not do it. That's why 40 years of investigating Clintons could only come up with 1 lie during the investigation and nothing related to what was actually being investigated.

For me, I think the cause may still be a giant Democrat smear/disinformation campaign to cover either RBG or Breyer stepping down. Essentially, they are using this to argue that Trump should not be able to appoint another justice while under this impeachment inquiry. Nothing done thus far is a crime or even close to impeachable. The GOP old guard hate Trump too and want their power back - but even they know that the party essentially ends if they support impeachment.

"That would be illegal."

Use an executive order citing national security - which would be true.

"What leader will talk to us honestly if they know their conversation will be leaked?
Thank Trump for that."

Trump didn't leak. That was the Democrats and Deep State. The CIA, FBI, and NSA should all be defunded. I have posted that since I started posting here. Just more proof of why this is needed.

Leaders that are not committing Treason don't need to worry about who hears them. You still haven't figured out that blowing the whistle on criminal activity is not a crime. Do you believe that the President is above the law?

Biden allegation = abuse of power as Vice President that took place on national television (easily accessible evidence, without indictment since 2014? Three years under Trump without even an investigation? Besides, what's their to investigate if Biden committed a crime/abuse of power right out in the open? Why ask Ukraine to help at all with the risk of bringing this situation upon yourself?)

Trump allegation = abuse of power as POTUS that took place on a private, yet monitored, phone call (clearly, not easily accessible evidence that a complaint now alleges White House officials acted to 'lock down' record of call -- per drudgereport.com).

There's a reason why Biden was not indicted in three years of Trump being POTUS. What's that reason?

#95 | Posted by rstybeach11 at 2019-09-26 06:59 PM | Reply

No longer ANY doubt that there is a deep state. This 'whistleblower' was given information on a highly classified phone call leaked by others. Trump should simply order everyone out of the room from now on on the US side as the intelligence community continues to go rogue. What leader will talk to us honestly if they know their conversation will be leaked? Thank god this call was just the innocent banter that it was. Find the leakers - they should go to jail. Find the whistleblower and have him turn over the leakers as they were committing crimes.

#86 | Posted by iragoldberg

The cops should never even have been called about that burglary! Who called them anyway!

Your desperation is truly delicious.
You know that asking a foreign country to dig up dirt on your political rival isn't innocent banter. Unless you're really that stupid.
But ya know, maybe some congressmen will be reading your comments on their lunchbreak and be totally convinced. That seems to be your only prayer.

Considering the true priorities here, although I agree with you re: your point, focusing on the leakers as opposed to Trump's actions himself is simply silly.

Same with Hillary, same with Biden, same with any other criminal action that has allegedly taken place. Leaker, Hillary, and Biden do not have NEARLY the power that Trump currently does. That makes Trump a priority in determining any potential guilt pertaining to any specific crime.

It's just funny that so many Trump supporters perceive anyone against Trump as being Hillary or Biden supporters. HAHA! From this boat, "sacraficing" Hillary and Biden to jail would be worthwhile if it meant impeachment of Trump. Bring the evidence out and let it fester for all to see. If there were a "Transparency Party," I'd be an absolute political hack. Since there isn't one, all we can do is hope Hillary, Biden, Leaker's, and Trump's alleged crimes (and evidence of) be aired out for justice.

Anyone fighting against that is a complete partisan hack from either side.

I find nothing wrong with Trump's actions given Biden laid out the case against him on national TV. I don't think running for office should give dirty politicians a get out of jail free card - apparently, you disagree.

"Leaker, Hillary, and Biden do not have NEARLY the power that Trump currently does. "

And they SHOULD NOT. No one voted for them with the expressed mandate to clean up the government. You are actively trying to cover up corruption now.

"It's just funny that so many Trump supporters perceive anyone against Trump as being Hillary or Biden supporters."

In essence they are - they are the same "Never Trump" crowd that can't get over the fact that the American people rejected their view of the country in favor of Trump. All the neo-cons fit into this - and they basically ARE the deep state as Bush holdovers.

"Bring the evidence out and let it fester for all to see."

You don't want that. If the info on Biden is actually brought before the American people, there won't be a sentient person left saying what Trump did was wrong.

"Since there isn't one, all we can do is hope Hillary, Biden, Leaker's, and Trump's alleged crimes (and evidence of) be aired out for justice."

Trump has been on trial by media since Day 1. That won't change.

Given that is not a viable option, what we need to do is to fully investigate credible allegations of wrongdoing. You are just sad that Dumb Joe laid out the case against himself on live TV.

So - time to put up or shut up:

Will Biden's campaign survive this scandal? I posted yesterday, his campaign will cease by Halloween - Thanksgiving at the latest.

Because you CHOOSE to not see. You have a cokehead kicked out of the military with ZERO experience in energy, ZERO experience in the Ukraine, and doesn't even speak the language get $3M+ paid to him via a series of offshore banks - remember, this all ended up in Cyprus. The prosecutor that was investigating what happened - and was trying to subpoena Hunter (per the NYT) was fired do to blackmailing the country by Joe Biden. That is the story.

#145 | Posted by iragoldberg

Funny how you left out the part where the case against hunter had been shelved for years before biden joined a large effort to get the corrupt prosecutor removed.

Not haha funny. Just typical trump defender funny.

Posters like aborted monson and angry dad who literally do nothing but drive by insults could very possibly be 'bots. I'm not a coder professionally, but I could write a routine to do what they do. Put in a list of people to whom respond, and a list of randomly chosen insults to hurl when one of the names on the list occurs.

Without much more coding, one could do what lauramohr does which is basically just agree with other lefties and make sure one or two keys gets repeated a dozen times.

I'm not saying that's what's happening -- in fact I'm sure it's not -- but it wouldn't take much to write a program to do what they do.

Here you go puppet:
www.rferl.org
"They assert that Shokin was overseeing an active criminal investigation into Burisma and that Biden at the time told Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko that the United States would withhold $1 billion in loan guarantees unless Shokin was fired.

But Ukrainian prosecutors and anti-corruption activists with knowledge of the matter argue that the timeline of developments in the Burisma case and Shokin's stint as chief prosecutor simply does not fit the narrative being put forward by Trump and his allies. Moreover, they say that Shokin himself was the biggest obstacle standing in the way of the investigation....there are two big problems with the narrative presented by Trump and Giuliani, according to activists in Ukraine and others.

For one thing, Ukrainian prosecutors and anti-corruption advocates who were pushing for an investigation into the dealings of Burisma and its owner, Mykola Zlochevskiy, said the probe had been dormant long before Biden leveled his demand.

"There was no pressure from anyone from the United States" to close the case against Zlochevskiy, Vitaliy Kasko, who was a deputy prosecutor-general under Shokin and is now first deputy prosecutor-general, told Bloomberg News in May. "It was shelved by Ukrainian prosecutors in 2014 and through 2015," he added.

Activists say the case had been sabotaged by Shokin himself. As an example, they say two months before Hunter Biden joined Burisma's board, British authorities had requested information from Shokin's office as part of an investigation into alleged money laundering by Zlochevskiy. Shokin ignored them.

Incredibly convenient excuse. But really. What are you talking about? The evidence was thrown out on national television!!! Biden blatantly committed an abuse of office crime, something that should actually put him in jail, let alone expell him from 2020 race.

You and other Trumpers have made this incredibly clear: if Trump committed a crime, so did Biden. Well, Trump did commit a crime. So why has Biden gotten away with it? Deep state? How is the deep state keeping Barr from putting forth national TV coverage of Biden committing abuse of power crime as evidence? Barr part of the deep state too? How deep does your rabbit hole go?

Says the guy that posits Biden did the same thing as Trump and should therefore be charged with a crime.

But definitely before even investigating Trump's crime, yes? How about the cover up? Leads are showing potential destruction of evidence, other evidence being relegated to private servers. Biden couldn't do any thing close because the evidence against him now exists on YouTube. Can't cover up what's already public.

Again, Biden goes free, unindicted, with incriminating evidence that's been public for almost half a decade and Sessions/Barr let him get away with it? Man, your deep state theory is becoming more and more convincing, yet in a way I don't think you anticipated (i.e., Sessions and Barr protecting Biden even in the face of Trump impeachment for committing same crime).

That's a rabbit hole in and of itself:

Turtles all the way down" is an expression of the problem of infinite regress. The saying alludes to the mythological idea of a World Turtle that supports the earth on its back. It suggests that this turtle rests on the back of an even larger turtle, which itself is part of a column of increasingly large turtles that continues indefinitely (i.e., "turtles all the way down").

Fascinating stuff. Thanks for the reference and am now searching YouTube for world turtle psychodelic videos. Fun fun fun!!

More from link in #241:

White House officials abused a classified information system to hide the transcript of President Donald Trump's incriminating July phone call with the Ukrainian president. Worse, the whistleblower says he was told this was "not the first time" the system had been abused under Trump to hide politically sensitive information. The allegation, along with other emerging information, suggests fallout from the developing scandal could reach deep into the White House, its counsel's office, and the national security apparatus.

According to the complaint, White House lawyers ordered that the transcript, which records Trump pressuring President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine to conduct investigations that would benefit his political messaging, be stored in a special classified database managed by the National Security Council. Even though the transcript did not contain the kind of classified information usually held in that system, the move ensured many fewer officials would have access to this word-for-word record, which the whistleblower viewed as an acknowledgement that officials knew it documented an abuse of power not only needed to be covered up. The president's actions are likely a crime.

Ah.
This explains the Biden deflection perfectly. It's a heuristic substitution bait and switch.
Because it is politically sensitive for Biden; or at least, I can see that is how they want it to play out.
Whereas, what Trump is doing is impacting national security, independent of any political sensitivity, since Trump is the President, and Biden isn't.

That is indeed an important distinction here, although, I still maintain what Biden did was an abuse of power. Yet, that should not be the focus of currently. Trump's behavior justifies impeachment entirely. Settle that, then take on Biden. Biden is not POTUS, Trump is.

Directly from the Classified Appendix section of the whistleblower complaint:

"According to multiple White House officials I spoke with, the transcript of the President's call with President Zelinskyy was placed into a computer system managed directly by the National Security Council (NSC) Directorate for Intelligence Programs. This is a standalone computer system reserved for codeword-level intelligence information, such as covert action. According to information I received from White House officials, some officials voiced concerns initially that this would be an abuse of the system and was not consistent with the responsibilities of the Directorate for Intelligence Programs. According to White House officials I spoke with, this was "not the first time" under this Administration that a Presidential transcript was placed into this codeword-level system solely for the purpose of protecting politically sensitive - rather than national security sensitive - information."

#246 | Posted by rstybeach11 at 2019-09-26 10:19 PM | Reply

A great point:

"One of the most audacious things about this "lock down" of damaging evidence is that it exposes a vital national security resource to a political firestorm. The server they're hiding the real transcripts on is meant for "codeword" level intel, literally the most sensitive and important secrets our country possesses. Trump and his cronies are compromising a critical component of our national defense to provide themselves political cover."

If true, why was that necessary. And with that in consideration, why hasn't Biden been brought up in abuse of power charges. You mean to tell me Biden can blatantly commit abuse of power on NATIONAL TELEVISION, but Trump has to bury his abuse of power within codeword level Intel preservation structures? The cover up, and abuse of systems to do so, seem just as serious and significant as the crimes Biden and Trump have committed. Even more reason to address Trump's transgressions prior to Biden's, but also raises the question: Why has Biden gotten away with a crime that Trump is now being impeached for?

The White House is said to have learned of the whistle-blower's complaint even as it was moving through a process meant to offer protection.

The White House learned that a C.I.A. officer had lodged allegations against President Trump's dealings with Ukraine even as the officer's whistle-blower complaint was moving through a process meant to protect him against reprisals, people familiar with the matter said on Thursday.

Conspiracy against the United States.

What did I note previously?

The day after he resigned, Coats said the complaint was provided to acting Director of National Intelligence Joe Maguire. "Nothing came to me," Coats said. "I left on Aug. 15.... The very next day that was presented to Joe.
The top article confirms that Trump knew about the complaint and forced the Coats and Gordon "resignations" precisely to derail the complaint from getting to Congress. And now he's threatening and trying to intimidate the fact witnesses who'll be called to give testimony.

Conspiracy against the United States.

And it keeps going on, and on, and on....

This could all be nothing, but at the moment, with all we have heard, this is looking really bad for Trump, the GOP, and the United States. We have to find the truth out as soon as possible, and if it's as bad as it looks today, we need a major scrubbing of certain people from office, starting with Trump, Barr, Pence and almost every single "acting" department head.

Part of me is waiting for Trump to pull out his "get out of jail, free" card and point at everyone and say "see! I told you they were all out to get me!" and enough Americans will believe him. Another part of me says this is already gone too far for him to recover from.

The GOP needs to figure out how relevant they want to be/remain and make some tough choices, soon.

What a train wreck the past 24 hours has been. Wow.

The article says that Fox wants to move away from Trump while staying faithful to their Trump viewers, so don't expect any dramatic shifts. They'll sanguinely start admitting the truth (that some things Trump did were really bad and shouldn't have been done) while still blaming liberals and everyone else for forcing him into doing it because they refused to let Trump do what he wanted to in the first place.

It's Management Bedlam: at Fox News as Trump Faces Impeachment (only 2 paragraphs ... Fair Use)

Inside Fox News, tensions over Trump are becoming harder to contain as a long-running cold war between the network's news and opinion sides turns hot. Fox has often taken a nothing-to-see-here approach to Trump scandals, but impeachment is a different animal. "It's management bedlam," a Fox staffer told me. "This massive thing happened, and no one knows how to cover it." The schism was evident this week as a feud erupted between afternoon anchor Shepard Smith and prime-time host Tucker Carlson. It started Tuesday when Fox legal analyst Judge Andrew Napolitano told Smith on-air that Trump committed a "crime" by pressuring Ukraine's president to get dirt on Biden. That night, Carlson brought on former Trump lawyer Joe diGenova, who called Napolitano a "fool" for claiming Trump broke the law. Yesterday, Smith lashed back, calling Carlson "repugnant" for not defending Napolitano on air. (Trump himself is said to turn off Fox at 3 p.m., when Shep Smith airs.) Seeking to quell the internecine strife before it carried into a third day, Fox News CEO Suzanne Scott and president Jay Wallace communicated to Smith this morning to stop attacking Carlson, a person briefed on the conversation said. "They said if he does it again, he's off the air," the source said. (Fox News spokesperson Irena Briganti denied that management had any direct conversation with Smith).

The ultimate referee of this fight will be Lachlan Murdoch. In recent months, Rupert's oldest son has been holding strategy conversations with Fox executives and anchors about how Fox News should prepare for life after Trump. Among the powerful voices advising Lachlan that Fox should decisively break with the president is former House speaker Paul Ryan, who joined the Fox board in March. "Paul is embarrassed about Trump and now he has the power to do something about it," an executive who's spoken with Ryan told me. (Ryan did not return a call seeking comment.) But a person more sympathetic to Trump has told Lachlan that Fox should remain loyal to Trump's supporters, even if the network has to break from the man. "We need to represent our viewers," the source said. "Fox is about defending our viewers from the people who hate them. That's where our power comes from. It's not about Trump."

Good follow-up. The chances of said anonymous source being corroborated are significant, considering:

According to the complaint, White House lawyers ordered that the transcript, which records Trump pressuring President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine to conduct investigations that would benefit his political messaging, be stored in a special classified database managed by the National Security Council. Even though the transcript did not contain the kind of classified information usually held in that system, the move ensured many fewer officials would have access to this word-for-word record, which the whistleblower viewed as an acknowledgement that officials knew it documented an abuse of power not only needed to be covered up. The president's actions are likely a crime.

It is looking like Groundhog Day.

Yet again, Trump is proving what a ------- he is and the right is pulling their usual denial tactics like they do with global warming-nitpick single things and act like that nitpick debunks the entire thing.

Taking things in totality is not a strong suit of the right.

#284 You appear to be equating political "staying power" with evidence of bad acts. The Mueller Report contains the latter in spades and you know it.

Encouraging crimes against Americans by a foreign adversary, and gleefully accepting the political benefit therefrom, is a severely ------ thing to do.

Asking yet another foreign government to "do you a favor" and invesigate your political rival and his son, while you withhold Congressionally allropriated aid to that country, is yet another severely ------ thing to do.

These are things only a severely ------ person would do. Trump is a severely ------ person.

If at the end of the day, all we have is "Trump is proving what ------- he is...".

That doesn't seem to affect his supporters and it doesn't seem to matter to you or me as we didn't require more proof of what a ------- he is.

We need something that sticks to him.

"Trump is a severely ------ person."

as I said above....if that' all you get from chasing something on him......don't bother. We need something that leaps over "trump is an -------" onto something much bigger and more significant.

I'm talking about lefties leaping to conclusions before all of the facts are in. One recent example: ABC cites a guy who says that discussing Biden was a precondition to a phone call. Turns out that guy wasn't even part of the Zellensky admin when this all took place.

Never mind two years of constant bleating about a collusive conspiracy with Russia to tilt the election and all of the tidbits of proof along the way that showed the walls were closing in. That was a big goose egg that almost half the country has been convinced was going to be pay dirt.

You get all kinds of pissed off at righties who show any kind of skepticism of the narrative in the absence of facts. Your rage is displaced in the wrong direction.

you guys misunderstand me......I am not suggesting we try to get Trump's base to change their mind about him. That is a waste of time.

You guys continue to express frustration over his base. STOP with that. That's not my point.

Personally, I think the news gets ahead of themselves on issues like this one and if/when it turns out to be less than what was predicted.....it has zero impact on folks when all you have is "well, this just proves trump is a ------ person".

Too much hype too early on stories like this is sort of like chicken little...people have a fatigue factor (not Trump's base...they are steadfast in their support) and while it may appear that trust of Trump is declining.....the folks in the middle are likely to get more sick of the media and democrats than they are of Trump......when nothing sticks.

JEFFJ

The facts are simple:

Trump ordered a stop to military aid for Ukraine that Congress had allocated. With both parties to the call aware of that, Trump asked the Ukrainian president if he'd 'do him a favor though' and investigate a potential U.S. presidential candidate who'd already been investigated, with no wrongdoing having been found.

Asking a foreign government to interfere with a U.S. election is a crime in and of itself. They they tried to cover it up by storing the call - as they wrongly had many others - in a code protected classified computer system..

Simple facts

As Muller clearly stated, a sitting president can't be prosecuted for crimes while in office. That only Congress has the power to seek remedies during that period of time.

The investigation did not always yield admissible information or testimony, or a complete picture of the activities undertaken by subjects of the investigation. Some individuals invoked their Fifth Amendment right against compelled self-incrimination and were not, in the Office's judgment, appropriate candidates for grants of immunity. The Office limited its pursuit of other witnesses and information--such as information known to attorneys or individuals claiming to be members of the media--in light of internal Department of Justice policies. See, e.g., Justice Manual 9-13.400, 13.410. Some of the information obtained via court process, moreover, was presumptively covered by legal privilege and was screened from investigators by a filter (or "taint") team. Even when individuals testified or agreed to be interviewed, they sometimes provided information that was false or incomplete, leading to some of the false-statements charges described above. And the Office faced practical limits on its ability to access relevant evidence as well--numerous witnesses and subjects lived abroad, and documents were held outside the United States.

Further, the Office learned that some of the individuals we interviewed or whose conduct we investigated--including some associated with the Trump Campaign--deleted relevant communications or communicated during the relevant period using applications that feature encryption or that do not provide for long-term retention of data or communications records. In such cases, the Office was not able to corroborate witness statements through comparison to contemporaneous communications or fully question witnesses about statements that appeared inconsistent with other known facts.

Accordingly, while this report embodies factual and legal determinations that the Office believes to be accurate and complete to the greatest extent possible, given these identified gaps, the Office cannot rule out the possibility that the unavailable information would shed additional light on (or cast in a new light) the events described in the report.

ere is the Mueller report, by the numbers:

- 675: The number of days from when Mueller was appointed to the day he turned in his report to Barr.

- 34: people indicted as a result of Mueller's investigation, including Russian nationals and several former Trump aides and advisors.

- 19: lawyers who were employed by the special counsel's office, according to a letter Barr sent to Congress on Sunday.

- About 40 FBI agents, intelligence analysts, forensic accountants and other staff that assisted with the investigation.

- More than 2,800 subpoenas issued by the Special Counsel's office, that's an average of at least four per day.

- Nearly 500 search warrants executed.

- More than 230 orders for communication records.

- Nearly 50 authorized orders for the use of pen registers, a tool that lets the government know who someone is communicating with and when, but not what they said.

- 13 evidence requests to foreign governments

- 500 witnesses interviewed

- $25 millionin posted costs as of February

Mueller report: Investigation found no evidence Trump conspired with Russia

"The investigation did not establish that members of the Trump campaign conspired with the Russian government in its election interference activities," Mueller said. But: "We did not address collusion,' which is not a legal term. Rather, we focused on whether the evidence was sufficient to charge any member of the campaign with taking part in a criminal conspiracy. It was not."

That's an important distinction, between a colloquial term, collusion, and what Mueller's team sought to determine, which was whether there was enough evidence to prove criminal conspiracy. Mueller is pointed: There was no determination on "collusion" " and there may have been at least some evidence pointing to possible conspiracy.

So are you suggesting Robert Mueller lied in his testimony to Congress?

You're clinging to the "trump won the russia thing" narrative.

Seriously are you stupid enough to believe that or just thinking it'll be true if the whole cult agrees on it?

The report found trump found out putin wanted to help him, and instead of going to the cops, he took that help, encouraged that help, hid that help, and broke the law to thwart the investigation into that help.

Or as trump (and now you) put it, TOTAL EXONERATION!

This:

"You were convinced that Trump was involved in a criminal conspiracy with Russia to mess with the '16 elections. You knew it to be true. It turned out not to be true."

Is not the same as this:

"Further, the evidence was not sufficient to charge that any member of the Trump Campaign conspired with representatives of the Russian government to interfere in the 2016 election."

"Collusion isn't even a legally defined crime.
#351 | POSTED BY SPEAKSOFTLY "
Actually, it is.

Not according to the Mueller report (p 2, emphasis mine):

In evaluating whether evidence about collective action of multiple individuals constituted a crime, we applied the framework of conspiracy law, not the concept of "collusion." In so doing, the Office recognized that the word "collud[e]" was used in communications with the Acting Attorney General confirming certain aspects of the investigation's scope and that the term has frequently been invoked in public reporting about the investigation. But collusion is not a specific offense or theory of liability found in the United States Code, nor is it a term of art in federal criminal law. For those reasons, the Office's focus in analyzing questions of joint criminal liability was on conspiracy as defined in federal law.

Duly noted. Now that you have established your point with Wikipedia link, do you believe Robert Mueller lied to Congress restarting to collusion?

#363 | Posted by rstybeach11 at 2019-09-27 08:40 PM | Reply

www.newyorker.com

Trump then crowed on Twitter, writing, "No Collusion, No Obstruction, Complete and Total EXONERATION. . . ." That statement was false on all three counts. Mueller's report explicitly did not exonerate Trump, and it cited at least ten possible instances of Trump's obstruction of justice, while noting that Justice Department policy prevented the filing of criminal charges against a sitting President. Mueller made no judgment on collusion, meanwhile, because that isn't a crime.

In the political and popular vernacular, collusion has been incorrectly conflated with its legal equivalent: criminal conspiracy. Mueller said that he found insufficient evidence of a criminal conspiracy between the Trump campaign and the Russian government"a finding that Trump keeps insisting means there was "no collusion."

The report notes that "on multiple occasions, members and surrogates of the Trump Campaign promoted"typically by linking, retweeting, or similar methods of reposting"pro-Trump or anti-Clinton content published by the IRA through IRA-controlled social media accounts." Both sides then lied about the meetings and other contacts, which were designed to help Trump win the election.

Collusion is defined by Merriam-Webster's as a "secret agreement or cooperation, especially for an illegal or deceitful purpose," such as "acting in collusion with the enemy." Under that definition, the contacts between Trump's campaign and Russia, an avowed enemy of the United States, at least amounted to coperation with a deceitful purpose.

Would you agree that Mueller was mistaken in not bringing charges against Trump for the crime of collusion?

#372 | Posted by rstybeach11 at 2019-09-27 09:07 PM | Reply

The rest of the paragraph from the Mueller quote above:

"In connection with that analysis, we addressed the factual question whether members of the Trump Campaign "coordinat[ed]""a term that appears in the appointment order"with Russian election interference activities. Like collusion, "coordination" does not have a settled definition in federal criminal law. We understood coordination to require an agreement "tacit or express" between the Trump Campaign and the Russian government on election interference. That requires more than the two parties taking actions that were informed by or responsive to the other's actions or interests. We applied the term coordination in that sense when stating in the report that the investigation did not establish that the Trump Campaign coordinated with the Russian government in its election interference activities."

So, by that standard:

Trump saying "Russia, if you're listening, I hope you're able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing. I think you will probably be rewarded mightily by our press."

and "Within approximately five hours of Trump's statement, GRU officers targeted for the first time Clinton's personal office. After candidate Trump's remarks, Unit 26165 created and sent malicious links targeting 15 email accounts at the domain PP including an email account belonging to Clinton aide PP. The investigation did not find evidence of earlier GRU attempts to compromise accounts hosted on this domain. It is unclear how the GRU was able to identify these email accounts, which were not public."

was not considered coordination:

"That requires more than the two parties taking actions that were informed by or responsive to the other's actions or interests."

If not coordination, then mere coincidence? I think not. More like what some have called "collusion in plain sight".

It appears you are trying hard for a 'gotcha goat' score. Otherwise why are directing your questions at me, rather than the general audience? After all, I have deliberately steered clear of this subject and not taken sides for the most part due to the plethora of emotion and scarcity of facts to objectively come to a conclusion.

Nothing more, nothing less. Nothing to fear GOAT. Also, you offered the specific stance that collusion is indeed a crime, not the general audience. Hence, your response is of interest for me, not the general audience. Within the context you've provided, I'm attempting to understand where your opinion lies (lays?).

Being able to look up a word in the dictionary hardly makes me an expert on something a complex as the Mueller report. I doubt if anyone lacking a law degree can parse it into something meaningful. Yet partisans from both sides claim to be able to do just that.

It's not sudden. I've never had an opinion on the Mueller report. And again, I don't have an opinion because I don't feel I have enough or accurate facts.

Why are you pressing this? Why can't you accept the fact I don't have an opinion on the matter? Do I have to be like so many on the DR and have a baseless opinion?

Ship. :-)

USS Elmer Montgomery. I was on it from '77 until '81. She was decommissioned in 1992 and sold to the Turkish Navy. I heard that a few years ago she was turned into razor blades (Navy parlance for scrapped) after 12 years in the Turkish Navy.

We all call each other shipmates, the inference being we are closer than blood brothers. And its true. Whether one or thousands of miles from land everyone depends on everyone else for survival. My shipmates are the only people I would ever have laid my life down for outside of my own blood family. Sounds corny, but it's true.

Even now when I get the usual Facebook birthday greetings, the ones that I served with still say, "Happy Birthday Shipmate" even though we haven't been active duty for 40 years.

There's one guy going to be there I'm not real fond of seeing. He was the Master at Arms, or the ship's cop. He was always trying to bust us for smoking pot, but never caught us red handed. Red eyed, yes, but red handed, no. He hated that. I'm tempted to take a doob and light it up right in front of him and laugh. LOL
