Leading Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders is recovering after doctors found a blockage in one artery and inserted two stents. Sanders is canceling his campaign events until further notice, according to his senior adviser Jeff Weaver.

While I wish him well and that his recovery is rapid and complete, this could still end his run for the presidency.

Agreed, unfortunately. I was increasingly disenchanted with Bernie's platform, but I always felt that he is a man of principle. It will not be long befire a competitor sends out a thinly veiled "hopes and prayers" tweet that implies it is a result of his advanced age.

I don't like Biden, but the bloodshot eye thing is not that big of a deal. A simple irritant can cause it. It's happened to me twice. The first time it freaked me out and I went to the ER. They confirmed it's nothing. I asked my ophthalmologist about it next time I saw her and she confirmed it is absolutely nothing to worry about.

Yes, it looks creepy and severe, but it's not.

At his age, getting stents isn't a simple as it is for someone even 10 years younger, I hope he is ok. The stress of the Campaign trail isn't going to help, so I agree that he may be done.

This would seem to help Warren, but with Biden faltering many moderate voters will look for an alternative...Mayor Pete maybe?

If Billary comes back in, nothing short of impeachment will keep Trump from stinking around (all puns intended) for another 4 years.

Again, though I wouldn't vote for Bernie, I agree with this assessment. He is a man of principle. He's not a Hillary who sticks her finger in the air to determine how she should react. Nor does he adopt a different accent depending on the crowd he is talking to as she did. Real person vs phony person.

"But Bernie kicking everyone's ass in fund raising"

You don't need a fortune-teller or learn to read tea leaves to understand the plight of Democrats in the 2020 election..

How Much Have ALL Democrats Raised for 2020?
Bernie Sanders: $18.2 million.
Kamala Harris: $12 million.
Beto O'Rourke: $9.4 million.
Pete Buttigieg: $7 million.
Amy Klobuchar: $5.2 million.
Cory Booker: $5 million.
Andrew Yang: $1.7 million.

How Much Has Trump Raised for 2020?
Since January 2017, Trump's fundraising efforts totaled $106 million, and the president finished September with nearly $47 million on hand, according to recent quarterly Federal Election Commission filings.

Age matters.

I love bernie, but 2016 was likely bernie's last chance. And bidens. And a 2 term presidency would put them NINE YEARS OLDER THAN TODAY.

Warren is old but clearly not as old as they are and much more vigorous.

Trump is too old too. His brain is already mush. He rambles like a fox watching senior in a retirement home.

Heed jimmy carter - who knows what it's like to be old, and knows what it's like to be president, and says a president shouldnt be very old.

That wasn't really his point. His point was that Bernie is consistent. He doesn't flip flop for public perception. He has his principles and stands by them. And as Mustang said, that's admirable.

Although he isn't a communist. Frankly, he isn't even really a Socialist. He just supports certain ideas that are closer to Socialism than Free Market Capitalism. So Mustang is really wrong there.

#39 | Posted by SpeakSoftly

I would answer your question with a firm no. Plenty of people live until very advanced ages with no heart disease. Age plays a role no doubt but isn't the biggest factor by any means. Plenty of people in their 40s with stents today. So pretty much anyone old enough to be president could get them at any time.

Genetics, Diet, Age, Exercise/fitness, Depression/mental state, smoking are all factors and there are many more. Genetics in more than one way as well. My dad was only 60 when he had a massive heart attack and died. His dad died in his mid-50s from a series of strokes. Definitely a genetic issue there but there were other contributing factors.

Interesting side note women age more slowly then men - significantly.

Considering your propensity to lie, your party serves billionaires, polluters, and racists then.

You better clear your post with the DNC.

Here you go. THough it he doesn't say it's better, he says Cuba health care system is what he wants for America.

So either he thinks theirs is better, or he wants to dumb down ours. You choose, speaksoftly.

I know you are, but what am I?

Is that your best response? LOL

Only difference is you only say it. I prove it when you lie. See also your whopper from yesterday that the employees of Bayou Steel are Trump voters.

Carry on.

"Is it a policy thing or personality or something else? I get feeling that way about certain politicians, that is how I feel about Harris, just wondering the specific reason for your feelings about two who I figured were pretty non-controversial."

My response to your post was pretty visceral, so I guess it is a feeling thing. I just don't see either of them as being presidential at this time. They strike me as being too green, not enough gravitas. I'm not all that familiar with their policies, but I'm not all that impressed with what I do know from the debates. My 2 cents.

My brother got them much younger than Bernie and it took him about a year to recover. I think the damage to your heart and blood vessels is probably different for each patient.

Thanks for the response.

I certainly can't argue the too green criticism other than to point out by the time a politician isn't too green they are old. I'm kind of over 70 year old politician who won't be alive in 20 years to deal with the ramifications of their decisions as president. So while they are green to me that's a plus.

As far as their debate performance they poll low and on a crowded stage they didn't get much time. Gabbard did a good job holding Harris accountable for her actions as a prosecutor so that was a plus. Yang admittedly fell flat pretty much all around.

With so many on stage, while it would have been awesome for one of them to hit a home run, I really wasn't expecting much out of anyone. I felt like I got what I expected too.

Us gen x'ers will never be a majority so if the Democrats want a strong future they need to start courting millennials now and both Yang and Gabbard do that well. Bernie does it best but let's be real, this is his last primary so Democrats need to look to the future. If Bernie doesn't drop out one of those as his VP would be a good way to build for the future.

If we are going younger at this point, I prefer Buttigieg to Gabbard or Yang. He strikes me as grounded and honest, idealistic but also practical.

Recovery really depends on all the circumstances involved with a patient's medical history, the type of blockage, where the blockage was, how the patient responds to follow-up treatments from blood-thinners prescribed to rehab ...
