And over the weekend, State and Energy Department officials were quietly reviewing plans for evacuating roughly 50 tactical nuclear weapons that the United States had long stored, under American control, at Incirlik Air Base in Turkey, about 250 miles from the Syrian border, according to two American officials. Those weapons, one senior official said, were now essentially Erdogan's hostages. To fly them out of Incirlik would be to mark the de facto end of the Turkish-American alliance. To keep them there, though, is to perpetuate a nuclear vulnerability that should have been eliminated years ago.

That Donald Trump, he has a gift.

One that was bestowed upon him, in this particular instance, by both the Bush and Obama Administrations, the always tenuous Turkey relationship has been deteriorating since the Iraq War.

Accurate to say US relationships with Turkey and the Kurds have died under Trump's watch. In the case of the Kurds, it was murder.

but to listen to the DR left, Erdogan and Trump are buddies. So are they wrong, or is there a reason to get the nukes out?

They're not going to be able to do anything with them without the launch codes. So I hope no one is freaking out about that.

I still think this Trump-Erdogan thing is nothing more than a Kabuki Play and in the end, all the players, except the Kurds, will get what they're looking for. Even Trump will benefit in the end. However, our nation's standing in the world has been tarnished and the United States will suffer for years as a consequence of Trump's actions, and American citizens traveling overseas will do so at a much higher risk to themselves and their families.
