Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said he will refuse to meet with Vice President Mike Pence, who is due to travel to Turkey to argue for a ceasefire in the ongoing Syria conflict. "I'm not going to talk to them. They will be talking to their counterparts. When Trump comes here, I'll be talking," he said.

The vice president's office announced Tuesday that Pence would lead a U.S. delegation including Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, national security advisor Robert O'Brien and the special representative for Syria, James Jeffrey, to Turkey on Wednesday. The aim of the trip was to persuade Erdogan to stop his offensive into the region.

On Tuesday, Erdogan vowed that he would not declare a ceasefire in northeast Syria.

"They say declare a ceasefire'. We will never declare a ceasefire," Erdogan told reporters after a visit to Azerbaijan.

"They are pressuring us to stop the operation. They are announcing sanctions. Our goal is clear. We are not worried about any sanctions," he added.

If the GOP had any institutional memory, this dynamic alone should cause them to leave Trump somewhere in a ditch without any help from the Democrats. Trump has so debased this nation's standing by elevating despotic tinpot autocratic dictators to equals of the POTUS that the dismissal of the VPOTUS, SecState, and a high level delegation by a probable war criminal is just another day ending in y of this trainwreck administration.

Unbelievable. Perhaps before conflicted leaders may have dismissed American concerns personally, now they just tell us "Talk to the hand" while flying a middle finger.

Erdogan Refuses to Meet With Pence; Will Only Talk to Trump

This is the formal diplomatic protocol.

Besides, talking to Pence would be a waste of time... talking to an eggplant would be more productive.

Pompeo and Pence will meet with Erdogan after Turkish leader backs off refusal

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Wednesday that he and Vice President Mike Pence will meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara despite the foreign leader earlier saying he would not attend.

"At this point, the vice president and I are planning to take off later this afternoon," Pompeo said. "And we have every expectation that we will meet with President Erdogan. And it's important, Maria, we need to have this conversation with him directly."

Erdogan earlier told Sky News that he would not meet with the U.S. delegation led by Pence, and would only meet with president Donald Trump, before reversing himself in comments to the Turkish press.

Haven't yet seen these Turkish reports of Erdogan backing down and agreeing to meet with Pence and Pompeo. Right now all we've seen is Pompeo making the claim himself on Fox Business Channel.

Maybe Turkey will arrest them on some trumped up charges once they arrive. Wouldn't that be something Trump is wholly unable to deal with.< / snark >

Womp womp.

The goal of all this is to pull Turkey away from the EU and closer to Russia.

Who needs Turkey in NATO, for that matter.

If our ally ghosts our vice president I would take that as a national insult.... and I think Pence is a stooge... but his office deserves respect.

Erdogan to Meet Pence After Intentions Were Lost in Translation
www.bloomberg.com

...Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he'll meet with U.S. Vice President Mike Pence and Secretary of State Michael Pompeo, clarifying a news report suggesting he wouldn't receive a delegation visiting the country.

The Turkish president was seen telling Sky News in a video that he "will only talk to" President Donald Trump when he visits Turkey. But Erdogan told reporters he does plan to meet with Pence and Pompeo, and Fahrettin Altun, the Turkish presidency's communications director, confirmed that in a tweet....

He wants his b---h, Drumpf, not some insignificant lackey. The Drumpf Administration better start showing him the respect they have promised.

Don't forget, in May of 2017, Erdogan's security thugs jolly-stomped American citizens in the streets of DC. POTUS is a coward.

Wrong. The Democrats elected a ------- moron. Beating a buffoon like Trump should have been a slam dunk. But out of 50 million eligible candidates in the US, the best the Dems could come up with was a lying, corporate owned, always one step ahead of a scandal loser.

And now we're blowing up our own base as we turn and run.

FTA: On Wednesday, the U.S, military carried out airstrikes to destroy the Syrian headquarters of the American campaign to destroy Islamic State after rapidly pulling Americans from the base, current and former U.S. officials said.

Also got to love this quote from Erdogan about our Twitter King:
The Turkish president has said he is increasingly straining to follow the positions of his U.S. counterpart. "When we look at Mr. Trump's Twitter statements so far, we find ourselves in a situation where we can't follow them anymore," Mr. Erdogan was quoted as saying in his interview with Turkish media. "We can't keep up with them."

And now we're blowing up our own base as we turn and run.

I heard that the Russians took over a base we abandoned, fully-stocked, when we cut and ran from the area. From what I understand, they raised the Russian flag on that base, and there were provisions and heavy equipment just left there.

Just yesterday I was curious about our plan for withdrawal. I mean, this is something the stable genius said he was going to do, so he must've had a solid plan on how to execute it, right?

Orange #45 has no idea what he's doing. I have a lot of questions, one of them is if we're going to bug out immediately or try to withdraw in an organized manner. There was a time when we had allies...wasn't long ago. That list is shrinking fast.

Guess we know the answer to that question about how we're going to withdraw from Syria...glad we're not deploying troops to the ME moving forward, though. It would be a shame to, say, send troops to Saudi Arabia right now. Endless wars and all that...

That's the letter he wrote to stop Erdogan from rolling on our former allies in Northern Syria. Yawn.

Once Trump's shortsighted "policy" comes to fruition and ISIS or something like it launches an attack in the US, -------- like you will be first in line beating the drum of war to take them out.

And we'll destroy ourselves yet again redoing the same thing you guys seem to get an itch to do every so often.

Also, no it's not TDS nor is it wanting wars forever to expect things to be done right. Trump's off the cuff, devoid of advice or thought "decisions" are not how things are done right.

I actually really disagree here. I think what we're witnessing is the culmination of the middle class being sold up the river (with the deep distrust and frustration being born out of it) and to that end campaign promises to "fix" or "lift up" the middle class have really lost their currency. Moreover, Trump, for better or worse, was true to himself - they may be horrible truths like lying, grifting, racist but true nonetheless. Whereas his opponent could really explain where her priorities were vis a vis $500k for GS speeches or lame excuses like "that's what they offered" furthers the notion of distrust - "whose team are you really on?" Your seeing the same thing right now with Joe & Hunter Biden. "It's not illegal" which is true but doesn't sound right to the average voter.

Trump's lack of polish was his greatest selling point. I don't think the Democratic establishment has come to terms with that yet (i.e. out of touch - prefers establishment candidates). I honestly don't think he could have been beaten in 2016 regardless of wherever you fall on the Russia influence spectrum. His dishonesty was less of a known than the political establishment's betrayal which has been going on for 40 years.
