Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Thursday, October 17, 2019

The United States plans to host next year's Group of Seven, or G-7, summit at President Donald Trump's Trump National Doral Miami resort, White House acting Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney announced Thursday, saying Trump himself was the first to suggest it.

Why doesn't Pres Trump look to bring business to other private businesses besides his own?

It might be G8...

Donald Trump to host 2020 G7 at his Florida golf club
www.dw.com

...Mulvaney floated the idea that Russia, which was booted from the G8 after invading Ukraine and annexing Crimea in 2014, could be invited to attend. ...

The acting chief of staff, the third in Trump's turbulent 33-month presidency, described the process that went into picking the president's resort. He said one evening several administration officials were "sitting around" trying to choose a spot for the summit from about a dozen candidates, when Trump offered up an idea: "What about Doral?"

Mulvaney said the officials did not have to think long before deciding that "you know what? That's not the craziest idea we've ever heard " we'll go look at it."

He said Trump's team sent representatives to visit about 10 spots before narrowing the list down to a potential location in the archipelago state of Hawaii and two in the mountainous inland province of Utah before deciding that Doral would be the ideal location. Another of Trump's Florida resorts where he has hosted high-level diplomacy was ruled out: "Mar-a-Lago was not close to being sufficient for the G7," Mulvaney said....

The rooms will be free and so will the food.

It will cost you $1000 to flush the toilet, however. Maintenance costs and all.

It'll be $10,000 to take a shower.

$50 to open your room door.

$100 per floor traveled on an elevator.

Everything is conveniently wired already for room keys to be swiped and the "maintenance fees" charged directly to the visitor's government.

There is some merit to those arguments, and here's some thoughts on them.

I don't know what the profit margin on a hotel is, but let's say it's 100% markup on actual cost. So OK, let's say it ends up being more than cost as you suggest. Let's be absurd and say it's 50% over cost that somehow gets weaseled into the bill. That's still a lot of money saved.

On your second point, if being owned by the president hasn't already increased its value, do you think the G7 that lasts a few days will? In my opinion, not, and even if it did, it wouldn't be for very long. I mean, who is going to say, "They held the G7 there last year. Let's stay there."

In this world of rabid TDS, I undrestand why the usual suspects are going -------. (not saying you're one of them, Eb). But if it saves money, why not do it?

If Trump is proving the facilities at cost, how does that enrich him?

#78 | Posted by goatman

Yea, but don't let Trump decide what the 'cost' was. He's got a reputation for inflating the 'cost' of something if the 'cost' will be used to determine how much money he's being paid.

Tenants today are reportedly still paying for a Trump family tax scheme from the 1990s

Rents in Brooklyn and Queens were artificially increased by a 1990s scheme to inflate building improvement costs, the New York Times found.

"But if it saves money, why not do it?"

Trump's usual MO for saving money on bills is to simply not pay them.
I doubt that will be happening when the property to be paid is owned by Trump since he financially gains from the payment
Furthermore, since it's taxpayer dollars, it costs Trump nothing to pay Trump.

The DoJ says you can't "go after" a sitting president.

Pelosi doesn't need one.

Interesting that they already have their votes picked without hearing any evidence. One could only conclude that no matter what is presented to them they won't convict. So what does that say about your first point, if he's breaking the law "come get him"

As it happens, at this very moment I'm taking a break from my company's annual ethics training. Of the five required courses, one is dedicated to conflicts of interest and self-dealing.
We employees are prohibited from:
- Accepting gifts valued above $50 from vendors or other business partners
- Offering gifts to businesses or government agencies
- Accepting or offering discounts in exchange for the personal benefit of either party
- Participating in a side business that attempts to use my relationship with the company to my advantage
- Taking part in negotiations, RFPs or other dealmaking involving any individual or organization in which I or anyone in my family or with whom I am romantically involved

And on and on. Violating any of these rules subjects me to discipline up to and including termination.

It's to your shame that so many of you don't hold the president to a similar, very basic, code of ethics. But if you haven't felt shame by now over this jackass, it's pretty obvious you never will.

Thanks for the warm welcome. Yeah, I kept in practice standing in front of the mirror for a year or so before I realized I could just turn on the camera on my laptop and do it there while sitting down. It was more realistic that way, and the bathroom isn't that fun of a place to hang out in. So that's how I kept frosty the next 1.5 years.

Yeah, those border crossers were liars from the get-go, but Snoofy has comprehension issues. Some kind of triggering mechanism spontaneously changes the words he reads in his head. Then he thinks no one notices when he "quotes" another Retorter with different words.

The truly fascinating concept that came out of that thread is how the Left broadly -- and Retorters more specifically -- use stories within the *milieu* of stories to transfer facts onto unrelated stories. The Wrap Up Smear.

It was interesting the other day how the Arrested 2x Loitering in Own Front Yard story started off hot, until the many holes in the reporting really became clear.

Retorters love them some *victim status*. Constantly claiming that you are trolling them is just another variation.

*Because Trump*

Goat,

By my count he's made 3 cameos over the past year.

The first one had to do with Trump reversing Obama's clean water plan. Obviously a technical discussion of that nature was right in his wheelhouse.

His second a few of us welcomed him back and things got a bit conversational, talking about kids and whatnot.

The last one was just one post, if I recall. He may have posted on another occasion, but those 3 were the only ones I've witnessed.

You assume a lot. Like Trump, the spoiled brat that always got bailed out and never suffered any consequences, and is a narcissist, is able to tell right/wrong or even is aware that it matters.

If he "hears" any decent advice, the one time in the past this was done there was NO charges at all to any of the attendees, and no bills to the American tax payer except for a few required security/communications upgrades for the meeting.

We'll see.

Of course he wouldn't do something that smells of corruption! That's why he:

Held private meetings with Putin and deleted the transcripts.
Placed all of his extortion...I mean, bribery...I mean, "Perfect phone calls" on a code-word encrypted server.
Completely divested from all properties and business dealings...oh wait.
Shared his tax returns with us, like every president in modern history...oh wait.
Instructed all members of his staff to cooperate with the ongoing investigations, because he has nothing to hide...oh wait.
Has zero members of his Administration, campaign, inner-circle, business partnerships or real estate dealings under investigation, in court, pending court appearances, pending sentencing or in prison. The guy only associates with the best people, all of whom are beyond reproach.

But, sure, you think he wouldn't do something corrupt out in the open...like solicit the aid of a foreign country to interfere in our elections. That would be crazy.
