Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Bruce Lee's daughter made a direct appeal to China's National Film Administration for changes to her father's controversial portrayal in the film. Now, the movie's China backer Bona Film Group is said to be frantically working with Tarantino on a new cut to salvage the release.

Is America Becoming Sinicized?

"Far from a newly rich China becoming Westernized politically, the West and the rest of the world are more likely to become politically repressive like China.

Westerners, who apologize when Islamists kill cartoonists and journalists for supposedly insulting Islam, do not say a word when China puts a million Muslims into re-education camps, bulldozes Islamic cemeteries and shuts down mosques.

Loud human rights lions in Europe turn into kittens when it is a question of Chinese organ harvesting, forced abortions and sterilizations, and the jailing and execution of dissidents.

American environmentalists demand a radical shutdown of the current fossil-fuel-based U.S. economy. They say little about greenhouse gas emissions from China, the biggest polluter in the world by far.

Outspoken NBA athletes and hip Hollywood celebrities damn the Second Amendment, curse their president and boycott states they find politically incorrect. But they become abject cowards when it comes to China.

Loud college students who disrupt campus speakers and forbid free speech never say a word about the horrendous human rights record of China. They ignore strident Chinese expatriate student supporters on campus.

College deans who weigh in on global morality say nothing about Chinese gulags or crackdowns against Hong Kong."

Nulli, this was kinda predictable when we didn't object to China being given most favored nation status in the 90s. Their participation in the global economy has now become so essential that multinationals are dependent on it as a customer. The bottom line of these corporations is now more important than any concerns about human rights or civil liberties. Corporations are now a more important organizing force in the world than nations are. I wish there was somebody out there whose policy proposals would attempt to address the issue.

Three years in to a Republican presidency that happened to have full control of government for two of those years without a single indictment against either Clinton or any of their cronies.
Why is that, MACKRIS?

Further, as a response to your most immediate posted quote, why are you not "angry" that Hillary nor Bill have been brought to justice while the one party in power holding full power to levy said justice has refused to do so?

Quentin Tarantino Won't Recut 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood' for China (Exclusive)

Quentin Tarantino has no intention of recutting his Once Upon a Time in Hollywood to appease China's censors.

A source close to the situation tells The Hollywood Reporter that the auteur is taking a take-it-or-leave-it stance in the wake of Chinese regulators pulling the film from the schedule a week before its release in the country on Oct. 25.

Tarantino, who is known to be opposed to any kind of tinkering with his films and has final-cut rights included in his contract, has no plans to bring his film back to the editing bay, especially given that China has offered no explanation for what is objectionable in the film that revolves around the events leading up to the infamous Manson Family murders of 1969.

I think I have finally figured it out. The real Nulli was kidnapped and murdered and replaced by Andrew Brietbart who didn't really die, he lives on in the corpse of the real Nulli. Cuz that is just crazy talk, only Andrew Brietbart would put forth such nonsense. He may be dead but he's still crazy as f**k.

I say good for Tarantino and boo to the NBA. And boo to China for oppressing Hong Kong.

It's complicated though. I do appreciate efforts to bring China into the larger world of openness and liberty, but their culture is not our culture. The US and Westerners in general have had to learn the hard way that aggressively imposing our values onto others is usually not welcome. So there's a dance we have to do, and hope that our efforts to integrate their interests with ours pay off over time. We don't really have a choice but to find a way to get along with one of the world's major powers.

"rational economic theory."

You mean this?

"What Is Rational Behavior? www.investopedia.com
Rational behavior refers to a decision-making process that is based on making choices that result in the optimal level of benefit or utility for an individual. The assumption of rational behavior implies that people would rather be better off than worse off. Most conventional economic theories are based on the assumption that all individuals taking part in an action or activity are behaving rationally."

I'm not ignorant of it.
I simply don't agree with it.
And I certainly don't agree with building an economic paradigm on a false assumption.
That turns it into a house of cards.

"Most conventional economic theories are based on the assumption that all individuals taking part in an action or activity are behaving rationally."

Let's explore this example:

It's rational for a department to spend all the money in their budget, even on frivolous matters, because the department head knows any money left over in the budget will be used to justify a smaller budget for the next cycle.

Think of a nation as a car. We The People are the passengers. The driver is chosen by WTP to steer. Capitalism is the engine. Hint: the engine doesn't get to steer the car nor control the accelerator and brakes. Capitalism is a very good engine, but it still isn't competent to steer in the interest of ALL the people.

BTW, a society in which a small minority owns everything and everyone else works for them and pays rent to live is called Feudalism, not capitalism.
