Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Trump lacks certain qualities which Americans traditionally esteem. For instance, he has no class, no charm, no coolness, no credibility, no compassion, no wit, no warmth, no wisdom, no subtlety, no sensitivity, no self-awareness, no humility, no honor and no grace - all qualities, funnily enough, with which his predecessor Mr. Obama was generously blessed.

Looks like a large portion is now missing from the original post. Here's the entirety:

Trump lacks certain qualities which Americans traditionally esteem.
For instance, he has no class, no charm, no coolness, no credibility, no compassion, no wit, no warmth, no wisdom, no subtlety, no sensitivity, no self-awareness, no humility, no honor and no grace " all qualities, funnily enough, with which his predecessor Mr. Obama was generously blessed.
So for us, the stark contrast does rather throw Trump's limitations into embarrassingly sharp relief.

Plus, we like a laugh. And while Trump may be laughable, he has never once said anything wry, witty or even faintly amusing " not once, ever.
I don't say that rhetorically, I mean it quite literally: not once, not ever. And that fact is particularly disturbing to the American sensibility " for us, to lack humor is almost inhuman.

But with Trump, it's a fact. He doesn't even seem to understand what a joke is " his idea of a joke is a crass comment, an illiterate insult, a casual act of cruelty.

Trump is a troll. And like all trolls, he is never funny and he never laughs; he only crows or jeers.

And scarily, he doesn't just talk in crude, witless insults " he actually thinks in them. His mind is a simple bot-like algorithm of petty prejudices and knee-jerk nastiness.

There is never any under-layer of irony, complexity, nuance or depth. It's all surface.

Some Americans might see this as refreshingly upfront.
Well, most of us don't. We see it as having no inner world, no soul.

Trump is neither plucky, nor an underdog. He is the exact opposite of that.
He's not even a spoiled rich-boy, or a greedy fat-cat.

He's more a fat white slug. A Jabba the Hutt of privilege.

And worse, he is that most unforgivable of all things: a bully.
That is, except when he is among bullies; then he suddenly transforms into a snivelling sidekick instead.

There are unspoken rules to this stuff " the Queensberry rules of basic decency " and he breaks them all. He punches downwards " which a gentleman should, would, could never do " and every blow he aims is below the belt. He particularly likes to kick the vulnerable or voiceless " and he kicks them when they are down.

So the fact that a significant minority " perhaps a third " of Americans look at what he does, listen to what he says, and then think Yeah, he seems like my kind of guy' is a matter of some confusion and no little distress to the American people, given that:
Americans are supposed to be nicer than that, and mostly are.
You don't need a particularly keen eye for detail to spot more than a few flaws in the man.

This last point is what especially confuses and dismays most American people, and many other people too; his faults seem pretty hard to miss.
After all, it's impossible to read a single tweet, or hear him speak a sentence or two, without staring deep into the abyss. He turns being artless into an art form; he is a Picasso of pettiness; a Shakespeare of ----. His faults are fractal: even his flaws have flaws, and so on ad infinitum.
God knows there have always been stupid people in the world, and plenty of nasty people too. But rarely has stupidity been so nasty, or nastiness so stupid.

He makes Nixon look trustworthy and George W look smart.
In fact, if Frankenstein decided to make a monster assembled entirely from human flaws " he would make a Trump.

And a remorseful Doctor Frankenstein would clutch out big clumpfuls of hair and scream in anguish:
My God ... what ... have ... I ... created?
If being a ---- was a TV show, Trump would be the boxed set.

"No link needed. This is common knowledge."

What was said does not need qualifications to say it, it is a remarkable piece of writing regardless of who wrote it. It expressed exactly what I think far better than I could express it myself. I honestly don't care who wrote it though I would probably enjoy reading other pieces by him/her.

I listen to a lot of Progressive talk via internet while I work. Some of it is great but some of those people are boring fools who think they need to explain everyday news to the rest of us, I can't actually tolerate them, my ears revolt. I do literally turn the volume down when those people pitch their shows, their voices just annoy me too much.
This is how I view the article, it is so very concise. It doesn't run on and on and on like so many articles do unnecessarily. That is something I value highly. Say what you have to say then end your piece. So few can do that, Trump for one, repeats himself over and over all the time. He is a very poor speaker and that isn't the only reason but it is one of the reasons.

I am well aware of it and everyone has a right to their opinion. I can, though, look at my own history of opinions since I was 17 years old and proudly state, I have been wrong very little. And most people around me were very wrong about so much. Actually, when I was younger than 17. I was arguing for Civil Rights while in Jr. High School when I was 13 years old and getting hated by many of the kids around me because I lived in Mississippi at the tiem. As I look back over my life and the opinions I've held, I've made a few errors but not very many.

Figures you would think so. I was brought up learning that anger and hate are very destructive -- not only to one's self, but to others around them. I've witnessed this to be almost always true. That's why I strive to keep anger and hate out of my world.

"Perhaps I should be AngryGrandma. "

But you go for it, girl! Beware, though. Medical studies have shown that happy people live longer and hateful and perpetually angry people die sooner.

Goat, why are you arduously avoiding going back and giving props to the actual author who did write it, unknown for certain, tho she may be? No, simply not true. Civil Rights was right, there is no question about that. Most people today would agree with me on that, probably even back in Mississippi.
Vietnam War was completely wrong. That is a fact. Most people today, who loudly disagreed with me back in 1968, would agree with me today.
The Iraq invasion was a terrible mistake or crime, however you want to view it. Once again, I was in the minority back then but the majority agrees with me today.
I could continue down the list of issues. I read incessantly and I know more than most people I know. I'm not saying I'm especially smart, it's just that I think I have always just cared more than most other people. I'll be honest, I bore most people to tears because I want to talk about all this crap all the time, they don't. I rarely go out of my office at work because I know they don't want to have conversations with me, they prefer to discuss Big Brother and I just can't watch such garbage. I don't watch sports. I don't have much in common with most people around me but I do know about what is happening in the world. You'd be surprised at how many people don't know virtually anything. They voted for Trump.

I don't understand the point you are trying to make. Maybe your lack of self esteem is getting in the way of not making a valid point.

The study of psychology teaches us that when someone resorts to name calling, it usually speaks to feelings of inferiority and a feeling of inadequacy of the person doing the name calling. People stoop to the process of name calling when they feel lesser and need to make themselves feel more powerful.

RCADE, looking up thread, do you feel you have added to the quality of discussion, and, by extension, this site by inviting Goatman back from banishment?

Do you enjoy watching him pee all over attempts at actual intelligent (?) legitimate (?) discussion?

For many, that is very much in question.

How about it, RCADE, what is your considered opinion of the results of your executive order/great experiment? Has it improved your site? Are you seeing a higher quality of discussion? Has it worked out just as you expected? Are you getting personal satisfaction when you see a thread such as this one?

Will you be inviting Afkababble back next? Perhaps Boyd?

Posters who have chosen to spend time at this site would like to know how much you respect the posters, the site, the quality of discussion you oversee, and the time and energy we donate to your enterprise.

An honest response would be appreciated. Climb aboard and join the discussion. You recreated Goat-enstein, and you can see the results. Is this the kind of result you anticipated? Are you pleased? Are you proud? Are you still alive? Beyond administering naughty word moderation, how do you view this site as a reflection upon you?

Spoiler alert: Yes, it does reflect on you and your judgement.

IMO based solely on my subjective perceptions, plonking a troll does little good when the troll is sucking the life out of an entire thread. Because you don't have to read what the troll has written, you still have to read the various responses, and the initial discussion becomes totally hijacked.

Trafficking of children
en.wikipedia.org
Trafficking of children is a form of human trafficking and is defined as the "recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring, and/or receipt" of a child for the purpose of slavery, forced labor and exploitation.[1]:Article 3(c) This definition is substantially wider than the same document's definition of "trafficking in persons".[1]:Article 3(a) Children may also be trafficked for the purpose of adoption.

Go back and read any thread that goat is highly active on and see how long it can go before he reduced it to petty squabbles all about him. Petty arguments about semantics, whataboutism, who lied 8 weeks ago, how 6 is totally different from a half dozen, and debate techniques that aren't fair (that he also uses), and how dare you call him a name (before he calls hillary supporters -------)... On and on. Every day.

I'm open minded to the possibility. But it's really a paradox. How could an intelligent person not care about the future of the planet, unless they are intelligent but also sociopathic? And if a person only cares about their own wallet and not the future of society, how is that not a form of ignorance and stupidity? If a person cites the arguments of polluters, whose arguments have been proven wrong time after time, how is that not ignorance?
How could a person who's NOT ignorant say that tax cuts pay for themselves or trickle down economics helps the middle class?
How could a person who isnt ignorant and brainwashed think that russiagate was a deep state hoax and trump has no shady allegiances to putin and isn't openly asking other nations to interfere in our elections on his behalf.
How could an ethical or patriotic person fight to keep the most unethical president we've ever seen in office even when he openly commits crimes and ignores the constitution?

You tell me...

Words change meaning over time.

Socialism once meant state ownership of the means of production.
Now socialism implies welfare state.

BTW, socialism is one of those words whose colloquial use is the opposite of what the world means literally.
Socialism is anti-social.
A progressive is regressive.

National health care is statist.

Libertarian? That would pretty accurately describe the US from its founding through the New Deal.

Lots of warts and given where things are now I think the Safety Net is justified, but in sum I can easily make the case that the period of time from the founding to the mid-20th century was on overwhelming success.

I'm open minded to the possibility. But it's really a paradox.

The word in bold cancels out your first sentence. You are NOT open-minded to the possibility and never have been, at least for as long as you've been posting on this site.

So, let's dissect the rest of your post:

And if a person only cares about their own wallet and not the future of society, how is that not a form of ignorance and stupidity?

That's a one-sided characterization.

If a person cites the arguments of polluters, whose arguments have been proven wrong time after time, how is that not ignorance?

So, anyone who disagrees with your preferred policies for attempting to address the problems resulting from a warming planet is simply a polluter.

How could a person who's NOT ignorant say that tax cuts pay for themselves or trickle down economics helps the middle class?

Tax cuts provide some economic benefit because the result is more money in the hands of the consumers. Sometimes they pay for themselves and sometimes they don't. Sometimes they benefit the middle class and sometimes they don't. It's WAY more complex than a simple "either/or" scenario.

How could a person who isnt ignorant and brainwashed think that russiagate was a deep state hoax and trump has no shady allegiances to putin and isn't openly asking other nations to interfere in our elections on his behalf.

It's still a developing story. Very recent reporting is trickling out that the Durham investigation is now a criminal investigation, and this guy doesn't mess around. With ALL of these things I'm in 'wait-and-see' mode. Given that, the Mueller report was pretty much a dud when it came to "collusion". That's the 'see' part of 'wait and see'.

How could an ethical or patriotic person fight to keep the most unethical president we've ever seen in office even when he openly commits crimes and ignores the constitution?

#138 | POSTED BY SPEAKSOFTLY

He's had plenty of competition in terms of ethical behavior if you take an honest look at the history of this country. Also, speaking only for myself, if he deserves to be removed then Democrats need to clearly and transparently make that case through the impeachment process. I kinda disagree with this ...

Capitalism, 20th-century, with its support and stewardship of government has been most successful. We see it working in the rest of the world.

Today we have gone past support and stewardship, towards top down socialism. Our debt and ideals will kill it.

It's not something that is done willy-nilly because some people despise the current occupant of the WH.

I can see how libertarian benefits capitalists by removing all social guidelines for a fair and level playing field, but how does anarchy benefit capitalism? Ultimately the removal of a laws and protections in society for the stability of the market would destroy the market that capitalism seeks to profit off of.

It is illogical.

We're social animals. ---- sapiens and pre-humans have existed in societies for millions of years. Writing was invented about 5,000 years ago. Written laws were derived from custom. It is through custom do people interact with each other. The general public is not trained in law, yet they get along with each other in everyday affairs without incident.

Written law is a product of the State. What that did is create a class who see themselves outside the law. Because they have no direct responsibility for their actions, they create DISorder, not order.

The idea of seeing government officials as all-wise, all-knowing selfless servants sincerely concerned for the well-being of the people, is one of the dumbest ideas ever to inflict on human society. The reality is we're ruled by psychopaths. Instead of writing laws based on custom, they write laws that overturn custom. That's the prescription for the chaos currently making news headlines.
