Across Oklahoma on Monday, 462 inmates doing time for drug possession or similar nonviolent crimes had their sentences commuted as the first step in an effort by state officials to shed the title of the nation's incarceration capital.

New governor, considers putting women in prison for decades on a possession charge insane. He is a Republican BTW. John Kevin Stitt, Elected in January this year.

Nothing went wrong. People were freed from prison, serving sentences for drug possession and petty theft that were classified as felonies. And the state saved around $ 12 million dollars.

Texas is where Oklahomans go when the racism gets too thick in Oklahoma.

Enough said.

If prison is the wrong punishment for a crime, either re-evaluate the law making it a crime or, if the criminal element is correct, create a proper punishment.

Slavery is still legal as a punishment after conviction. Why are illegals needed to jobs Americans wont do when there is an entire workforce available.

The auction money can pay the bills and reimburse anyone that was a victim of the crime.

#4 Under no circumstances should we ever do prison labor. It creates for-profit prisons and as we've seen judges can be corrupted to put the innocent in them. And nothing is worse than being an innocent man in jail. Also you just took somebody's job.

This is a myth, name one industry or job where illegal employment is larger than Americans

Convicts are sent to prison to pay their debt to society. Prisoners should be paying their own way. No work..no eat. But I wholeheartedly agree there should be no such thing as a for profit prison. If a person commits a crime such that society decides that they need to be incarcerated, then it is up to society to do they incarcerating.

The prison does not get the money. No prison. Plead guilty and off they go to the auction block.

Let's say that stupid ounce would have gotten you a day in jail. Fine, one day in the field picking vegetables, a day of collecting trash, etc.

In fact, convictions could lead to the recreation of the service corps that existed after the crash. Clean the parks, rebuild the infrastructure.

Bring back the CCC and put them in it. This is better than days/weeks/years in jail.

#6 | Posted by AndreaMackris I will list several. Construction, especially cement work. Painting, landscaping, dairy work, meat cutters/packers, wheat harvesters, vintners, and vegitable harvesters of all type. I seldom see a housekeeping staff that can speak English.

Cleaning Danni's toilet.

I clean my own toilets, do you Sentinel? This whole thread is a constant stream of hate speech from people too short sighted to consider that their own ideas could come back to bite them in the ass.

That's actually a good idea.

Crime and poverty are so closely linked so take criminals give them employment and training and I'd be willing to bet recidivism rates would drop, If employers knew the criminal had on the job training and experience they might be more willing to hire people with a record as well.

Like the prisoners that are called on to fight forest fires in California. They are ineligible to gain employment once released regardless of how much experience they have.

I do not clean your toilets. But you have indicated that you would, and have, knowingly hired illegal/undocumented immigrants to do work at your residence.

How many toilets do you have, anyway?

How can the legal system claim any legitimacy if possession of a plant is criminal but defrauding a veterans charity isn't.

Speeding tickets should get more jail time than pot possession.

Tax fraud should get more jail time than shoplifting.

First sumarily release every last prisoner convicted of a crime less serious than any crime Trump has committed without being incarcerated. He should be in prison for his charity scam. He shouldn't be allowed to write a check and pretend he did nothing wrong

Are you congratulating a Republican for doing the right thing, after Republicans created the problem to begin with?

#20 | Posted by Whatsleft Yea, Nixon started the war on drugs, but you might remember that three Democrats occupied his office afterwards, and they did squat.
