Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, is calling itself "the G-spot of Europe" in a controversial marketing campaign. The city's tourist board Go Vilnius launched the concept last year, upsetting some traditionalists including the bishop of Vilnius. An erotic promotional poster from the creative depicts a woman lying down on a sheet printed with a map and closing her eyes as if in pleasure. She clutches the sheets at the spot where Vilnius is located.

The city also produced a website that encourages visitors to "get down to business" and "build your personal pleasure map." Visitors can create their own "pleasure map" by taking a test on the site, which claims to reveal recommendations based on their preferences.

This quiz includes statements like, "There is no such thing as too much tongue," "real pleasure doesn't come without breaking a sweat," and "the right accessories can enhance any experience."

It then breaks down 48 activities fitted for users.

I have an ancestral connection to Vilnius. This explains a lot.

I guess nothing is off limits if you are that desperate for tourism. But the desperation it shows would discourage me from traveling there. Tiajauna could advertise it is the G-Spot of Mexico but I still wouldn't want to go there.

I don't think these ads by themselves will encourage or discourage people from traveling to Lithuania. But they do grab people's attention and will cause it to stay in people's minds, like many of those silly Geico commercials, so in that sense it's probably effective.

"Tiajauna [sic] could advertise it is the G-Spot of Mexico but I still wouldn't want to go there."

There are much better places in Mexico to visit. It depends on what people are interested in. Mexico City has so much to do. Queretaro has tons of culture. Veracruz has a great vibe. The beaches on the southern coast of Oaxaca are very relaxing. The cenotes in Yucatn are amazing. I wouldn't know about places like Cancun because they always struck me as being overdeveloped and all overrated. The magic pueblos are the place to go, along with the capitals of many states.
