Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News

Globally the number of wildfires is increasing and there is no end in sight as long as politicians resist making changes that could help. It is difficult for politicians without the necessary background to understand the extra drying that even 1 degree of average temperature rise can cause. Temperatures in Australia have hit highs that required adding a new color to heat maps in recent years. This has led to massive fires and fish and wildlife mass kills.

If California had any brains, which is a doubtful proposition, they would plant the prairie grass that used to be the ground cover in those hills. Look at 19th century photos, they are covered with grass not brush. Nice thing about prairie grass, it fire proof. Those verities of grass have extensive root systems. Ranchers planted other verities that were better forage, prairie grass is notoriously lean nutritionally. Ranchers don't use LA county any more. Plant something that works for a change.

The big difference is grass doesn't acculturate large amount if fuel like trees and brush and recovers faster.

You can say the same thing about Texas, looking at the same photos. One of the Three Amigos lost an entire Texas county because of this, and because he didn't full fund fire control.

#4 | Posted by Zed, Unfortunately mesquite is tough enough to survive in the planes, and cattle eat the beans which can pass through the digestive process of bovines ready to grow. We don't allow prairie fires to burn unchecked any more which was the natural control for that bush. They also spread via rhizone roots very quickly. One tree can take over acres in a decade More ranchers are now using controlled burns to clear the stuff, as it's too hard to cut with chain saws, poisons are too dangerous and mesquite plows are too expensive to run and tear up the top soil too much. So sometimes we let these fires burn. We concentrate firefighting efforts protecting homes and structures.

So your solution is to clear cut the forests in California and replace them with grassy knolls?

We don't need no stinkin forests anyway?

Please show us where California has grown forests where trees didn't grow before. provide citations please.

#8 the Santa Ana winds aren't a new phenomenon, California has been burning for millions of years. But if you watch the neighborhood videos you see palm trees and eucalyptus trees that are full of oil and pine trees that are full of pitch. Problem is if you plant something in CA it will grow. Yes southern CA is desert grass land as soon as you get out of town it's easy to see. Northern California is a different story Redwoods a thousand years old in places yet in San Francisco hills they planted eucalyptus.

but even a 1 degree increase in average temperature means even more fire. The fires are not starting in neighborhoods or because of them.

No but it used to be grass fires in S CA. And yes I believe in global warming. But nobody really cares until it burns their neighborhood which are lush.

As far as the redwoods and sequoias in other parts they have survived lots of fires.

Also it is a global phenomenon, Siberia to Australia and all points in between. Portugal just the other year.

--The fires are not starting in neighborhoods or because of them.

People are responsible for most fires. You settle more people in fire-prone areas due to restrictive housing policies in urban areas, you get more fires.

Actual math.

Yes Nulli people start the fires but you have to admit Mulholland changed the environment in a significant way.

Or not.

--The fires are not starting in neighborhoods or because of them.

Actually they are .... the neighborhoods need power, and as Nulli says people are settling in fire prone areas.

People are responsible for most fires.

Certainly the large ones ....

WE used to stomp out all fires, regardless of cause, as soon as possible. ... this accumulated fuel.

Now the forest is full of fuel ... "The Smokey Bear Effect"

Yeah people who knew their oil products would raise the global temperature, the politicians who work for them, and the idiot voters who elect those politicians.

Well CA has surely been a world leader in the more efficient burning of fossil fuels.
In my younger years I lived in Hayward and Pleasanton. My parents moved to Anaheim Hills about 40 years ago. I stayed in AZ. But over the years on visits I can see mountains around LA, who knew.

With any luck one of these fires will be the Cleansing Fire. I had high hopes last year when a bunch of celebrity houses were damaged or destroyed, but apparently that was just a warning. God is unhappy with the rampant degeneracy in CA, but will make it right soon.

No that's what facts and science say.

You never tire of fighting for the side of pollution do you? What a cause to take up in your golden years.

Power transformers are totally natural. Exploding for millions of years. There are cave drawings showing how to avoid them in the dry seasons.

#28 | Posted by AndreaMackris

You tell me.
Grab a stopwatch and put a plastic bag over your head.

When does water become a problem? There's water vapor in the air, so why not just go scuba diving without an air tank?

While you're at it, point at any modern republicans who care about ANY environmental issues. It's not like they only oppose CO2 limits, while they passionately try to solve problems with other pollutants. They fight to deregulate ALL pollutants. You vote for the pollution party, supporting the destruction and poisoning of your home, simply because the people you've been trained to hate want to clean it up.

Yeah, hotter temps and drier fuels couldn't have anything to do with it. Once again the ConservaDunce "brain trust" doesn't disappoint. Now we just need NulliDunce and his "ten years!" canard to complete the idiocy.

Jane Fonda: There's a climate emergency, and we have only 11 years left, but I have to get back to the Netflix studio.

"After the third arrest, they gave me a court date in November. And because I was arrested again before my court date, that's when they said, "Well, you're going to have to spend the night in jail." I have to be careful not to get to a point where they're going to keep me for 90 days because I have to begin preparing for Grace & Frankie in January. So I'm not going to get arrested every time. They give you three warnings and so I will step away at the third warning."

At least we will have Grace & Frankie

I get it, you're in a cult, you can't deny it, so you just say your opponent is in a cult. Just like your cult leader does. "No puppet. YOURE the puppet!"
