Article I, Section 3, Clause 7 of the Constitution states:

"Judgment in Cases of Impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States: but the Party convicted shall nevertheless be liable and subject to Indictment, Trial, Judgment and Punishment, according to Law."

Note the entry "...disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States...".

Does this mean that the Senate, rather then removing Trump from office, could instead simply deny him the right to run for office again, including in 2020? This might give some Republicans a way to have their cake and eat it too. They left Trump in office, but put a limit on his ability to continue to harm the nation by making him a one-term president.

Probably not. Disqualification is a consequence of impeachment, not an alternative remedy, and since disqualification is a "punishment" it needs the condition precedent that is removal, which requires a supermajority.

LOL. Some dimbulb ------- still thinks the Senate is going to convict Trump? I am starting to think the House may never actually vote on articles of impeachment with the public opinion turning against it.

With Trump winning in the battleground states and the Dems without a viable candidate, this whole sham looks all the more stupid.

Don't get all angry now.

This is what has been proposed:

Have the electors appoint Hillary.
Abolish the EC retroactively and appoint Hillary.
Remove via emoluments clause.
Remove via the 25th Amendment.
Have the military remove him.
Now, impeach and remove less than a year away from the next election.

"Abolish the EC retroactively and appoint Hillary."

What idiot suggested that, and why were they taken seriously?

"Now, impeach and remove less than a year away from the next election."

Well, is leveraging Congressionally-approved aid for fake political dirt okay, or not? Pretend it was Obama.

Trump will not be impeached so why even dream about it? It is all a ploy to get his poll numbers down down.
