Drudge Retort: The Other Side of the News
Saturday, November 16, 2019

Secret Service agents had identified four U.S. sites as finalists for next year's Group of Seven summit -- but then they were told to add a new finalist: President Trump's Doral resort, according to an internal Secret Service email released late Friday.

So why was Doral added at the last minute, after the Secret Service had already vetted a list of sites?

Was Pres Trump's ego offended that none of his properties made the cut?

"Was Pres Trump's ego offended that none of his properties made the cut?"

No, Trump was just a little slow on the draw . . . until it suddenly dawned on him how much money he could scam out of the deal.

Hannity probably put the bug in his ear.

This is about the resort that was in the news last month that Trump already withdrew because of bipartisan backlash, correct? Why is this being presented as news now?

Why is this being presented as news now?

Probably because donald decided to un-withdraw it.

@#3 ... Why is this being presented as news now? ...

The internal Secret Service emails were just released.

Confirmation of what many speculated back when this story first broke.

Of course back then, many said, "you've got no evidence."

Well, now, here's the evidence.

The addition of Pres Trump's Doral property was a last minute thing.

Do try to keep up....

"Probably because donald decided to un-withdraw it."

That's actually what I thought at first, but upon reading the story from several sources it appears that's not the case at all.

You sound like Pinchaloaf here.

This thing will be held at Doral. donald is the president and has the authority to decide these things.

@#7 ... You sound like Pinchaloaf here. ...

No need for the insults.

I was just trying to gently admonish you to keep up with current events.

I could have given you a sterner admonishment, but I didn't. :)

Back to the topic at hand, the new internal Secret Service emails, confirming what had been speculated, are interesting, no?

How so? It sounds like Donald's typical chaotic M.O. to act on a whim and drop things in people's laps at the last minute. Is this news to anyone?

First of all, thanks for a reasonable reply. It is appreciated.

Second, it is not "Donald" it is "The Donald." (presuming you've known of The Donald in NYC for the past decades...)

OK, that aside...

Yes, Pres Trump's White House is chaotic (understatement, but I'll move on).

But chaos does not explain why Doral was added only when Pres Trump suggested that it be added.

In other words, was it added because it was an appropriate site, or was it added becasuse Pres Trump wanted it to be added for self-profit purposes?

imo, the late addition seems to show the latter.

"imo, the late addition seems to show the latter."

I don't see how the timing of it has any effect on how corrupt it looks. It looks improper and self-serving either way, and members of his own party rightly rebuffed him for it once it came to light.

Yes, some members of his own party did rebuff him for his egregious behavior (quite the surprise, eh?), that still does not negate what he did was wrong.

And it was wrong.

Remember that emoluments clause n the Constitution? I knew you could.

"Remember that emoluments clause"

Trump claims he not going to charge the members of the G-7.

That's enough to satisfy his base. What he's not telling them is how much he'll gain from necessary renovations plus the room revenue/restaurant/bar/golf course/secret service he'll get from the hundreds of fringe people attending the event. Those things aren't going to be a freebe.

Whatever Trump does, there's going to be a scam involved and always at taxpayer expense.

Perhaps Doral is truly the best place to hold the G& summit.

He said he wasn't going to profit off them, not that he wouldn't charge them.

Emolument: A salary, fee, or profit from employment or office.

"The emoluments clause, also called the foreign emoluments clause, is a provision of the U.S. Constitution (Article I, Section 9, Paragraph 8) that generally prohibits federal officeholders from receiving any gift, payment, or other thing of value from a foreign state or its rulers, officers, or representatives." Why is this being presented as news now?

You'd have to read the article and have followed the story to understand why, so your confusion is very predictable. Trumpers can't be counted on to do things like "reading" and "comprehending."

#19, you must be a Trumper, then, because you obviously can't read or comprehend my posts.

Do you always ---- in public?

Trump wanted millions in government bennies to get the resort with problems ship shape.

Glad it didn't work out for him. He's grifted enough for his own personal gain.
