The Russians were hard to miss. They appeared suddenly last year in Madagascar's traffic-snarled capital, carrying backpacks stuffed with cash and campaign swag decorated with the name of Madagascar's president.

Its unfortunate Obama chose to give our foreign policy back to the 80s.

It's not hard to miss the Chinese propaganda effort in the West, either.

How China Infiltrated U.S. Classrooms

Even as they face criticism, Chinese government-run educational institutes have continued their forward march on college campuses across the United States.

Interesting article. it shows how the Russians who were trying to meddle for profit were amateurs who didn't know what they were doing.

The fears about the Russians are laughable. Russia does not want to go to war against the west or battle us economically. They pose no terror threat or any other kind of threat to US national security.

Our biggest global threats are:

1.) China (economic warfare, political meddling)
2.) Mexico (narco state exporting death, drugs, and violence)
3.) Israel - via them starting a shooting war where the US will be forced to bail them out

There is not even a close 4th. In terms of national security, Ukraine is a bigger threat than Russia - Ukraine directly meddles in our election with the Steele Dossier and other political dirt and outright statements in support of Hillary. Further, it is in their best interest to make our relationship with Russia poor - they want the threat of US action to keep Russian in check.

Maybe some day the Liberals will finally put America First....doubtful when they are all globalists spouting lines out of the communist manifesto but you never know.

Only 5 posts from Russian Troll Farms defending Russia as "amateurs who don't know what they are doing" and "posing no kind of threat to US" while at the same time pointing fingers at U.S. trading and/or military and geopolitical partners as "global threats"?

Yeah, you are right - Russia is a WAY bigger threat than China....

If you want the truth, we were lied to about the strength of the USSR for decades before their collapse. Either that, or our intelligence services were completely incompetent - I think a bit of column A and a bit of column B. You know the CIA assessment to Russia the month before they collapsed said that they were as strong as ever? The utter economic collapse was completely unforeseen. Now, maybe they overstated the threat to justify bloated budgets, but I think they are just incompetent. You realize after this giant F'up, Daniel Patrick Moynihan (one of the last honest Dems) called for the CIA to be shut down in its current form and moved under the State Department?

We are getting the same moronic fear monger about Russia now. They pose ZERO threat to the USA.

China - on the other hand - has values and goals 100% incompatible with the United States - and they have the population and money to actual cause real harm.

Here's something everyone should try as hard as they can to understand and accept. If there is the ability to gain money or power from it, ALL countries with influence and/or ability do it. I know that probably creates some snowflake responses but just because you don't like something doesn't make it untrue.

While I agree China is a tremendous threat I think you are crazy for not putting Russia as a close 2nd. China seeks order while Russia is seeking to destabilize the world.

Mexico? Meh. If we really wanted a solution to the "narco" problem it could be done very quickly. We have learned nothing from prohibition.

Israel - would we necessarily back them up?

I know it was baiting just because but what a powerfully ignorant statement. Capitalism still drives America and that is where globalism started and persists. Isolationism is a short term Ponzi Scheme for the rich.

Yes. My comment was obviously about the comments and the commenters, not the article.

How Russia Meddles Abroad for Profit: Cash, Trolls and a Cult Leader
"We all recall what the Russians did in the United States during the election. We were truly afraid."

"But two years after the Russians' aggressive interference in the United States, here they were, determined to expand their clout and apply their special brand of election meddling to a distant political battleground."

Yes, I am pretty sure they didn't send the most competent "election meddling" analog team to Madagascar.

None of those countries installed a puppet in the white house dum dum. When another country does that, MAYBE they'll be as big of a threat as russia.

Yes, I did. All the way through.

Few appeared to have much expertise on Madagascar, or on Africa at all " and it showed, locals said. They often used a translation application on their phones to communicate and had little understanding of local politics.

"They're always going around with money, they're always going around with women," said one Malagasy man who worked with the Russians and feared reprisals. "They just thought it was all very simple in Madagascar. They arrived and that's it, let's go. That's why it all fell apart."

"That's why it all fell apart."

You are undermining your entire argument, again. You should have put bold on the reasons "why" it all fell apart. The article says that they put someone completely incompetent, like Rudy Giuliani (or transparent Russian Troll Farm trolls on this site - see above) to do the "dirty tricks" job in, of all places, Madagascar. How does any of this relate to what Russians did here or on Brexit, or serve as a reason for vigorous defense of Russia in first 5 posts by the DrudgeRetort Russian Defense Force?
