The United States has the world's highest rate of children in detention, including more than 100,000 in immigration-related custody that violates international law, the author of a United Nations study said on Monday.

Reuters, AFP withdraw stories on UN Study on child detentions. In their mea culpa, Reuters notes, "A Nov. 18 story headlined U.S. has world's highest rate of children in detention -U.N. study' is withdrawn. The United Nations issued a statement on Nov. 19 saying the number was not current but was for the year 2015. No replacement story will be issued."
Let's see. Who was president in 2015? Anyone know?

"The nearly 70,000 migrant children who were held in government custody over the last year " up 42 percent in fiscal year 2019 from 2018 " spent more time in shelters and away from their families than in prior years."
Take a victory lap, Republicans!

You dolts are hilarious, this story has been withdrawn by AFP since it was based on a 2015 report:
AFP news agency Verified account @AFP Follow Follow @AFP AFP is withdrawing this story. The author of the report has clarified that his figures do not represent the number of children currently in migration-related US detention, but the total number of children in migration-related US detention in 2015. We will delete the story.

You pretend to be intelligent.
Considering Dotard Trump increased the separation and detention of children since 2016.
Would you expect the number of children in detention camps to have increased or decreased?

So you're saying children shouldn't be detained, then? No, you're not saying that...

Let's also note they think it's okay to treat Migrant Children worse than American Children.

LMAO, after Obama got a tonguebath for 8 years from the press, which conveniently ignored stories like the 100k children in custody only to discover, to their outright "horror", that number had dropped by 30% under Trump, they and their loyal subjects are outraged at Trump's atrocities.
Get thee to a fainting couch, DNC-MSM-MOUSE.

Exactly, the Agence France-Presse (AFP), which hates Trump more than CNN and MSNBC combined, throws out a click-bait fauxrage story only to have it shown to them that the stats upon which the story was based were during the Obama Administration, whereupon it was deleted, not corrected or given a retraction statement.
However, that didn't keep the Useful Idiots from retweeting it thousands of times, even after it had been deleted.

After the GOP fiasco in the impeachment hearings today, it is no wonder that rightwingers are desperate to somehow change the subject to President Obama. LOL. Today will be considered a watershed day in the presidency of Trump, ... in all the worst ways possible. So of course that is the one topic rightwingers will be avoiding.

It's actually true:
For all the desperate media advertising that these hearings are "historic," the first day attracted about 13.8 million viewers, and the numbers began to sink on day two, attracting just 12.7 million. Day two drew nearly 7 million less viewers than James Comey's 2017 testimony about his being fired from the FBI. It was more than 3 million less than former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen's testimony got in February. Those testimony days didn't damage Trump. Neither amounted to a historic hill of beans.
The writer of the linked piece is obviously very biased but the viewership numbers speak for themselves.

Maybe in the coming days as the MSM breathlessly report on all of this more and more people will start paying attention. It's certainly newsworthy which is why I find the apparent lack of public interest to be befuddling.

JeffJ, I hate to break it to you but an excess of 12 million viewers directly watching the impeachment proceeding is huge. For every viewer it is safe to say that there are at least five times that many people following the process closely, albeit not able to be glued to the TV.

AFP reports astounding number of child migrant detentions under Trump. Then discovers it was from 2015 under Obama.
They deleted the story because only current detentions matter, apparently. Carlos Garcia
The AFP News Agency withdrew a story intending to criticize the Trump administration over the high number of migration-related child detentions after they discovered the number actually came from detentions during the Obama administration.

""Of course separating children, as was done by the Trump administration, from their parents and even small children at the Mexican-U.S. border is absolutely prohibited by the Convention on the Rights of the Child. I would call it inhuman treatment for both the parents and the children.""
Yet the say this data is from 2015 when Trump wasn't even in office. So why even bring up Trump? The issue is a real issue for sure but making it partisan is just another example of the media trying to spread hate.

"How did these kids magically appear at our border? Who's responsible?"
Well, you see, several years ago Obama made a statement telling immigrants to leave their kids at home. Don't bring them to the border. He specifically said that. So, in turn, they did the opposite. Then several years later, Trump became President and immigrants continued to bring their children so Trump is responsible.
At least, that's using Liberal logic which makes no sense at all but apparently it does to them.
